Thank you for your frankness and calling out harmful messages, especially those that come from leaders in the industry. I'm all for sharing health indicators, but feel they really have to be rooted in mindful care (ahimsa, yes?)

I'm curious on your take... I was taught that yoga is a living tradition in that it continues to evolve. I appreciate this perspective because there are some ancient practices that have no relevance to my householder/modern life. Where do you distinguish the difference between repeating something as from a clear lineage and maturing innovations and adaptations of the practice of Yoga?

I love the explanation you of the goal of yoga through the logical steps of enlightenment. I totally agree with you, humanity needs to work together for the greater good of everyone. ❤🙏🏻

I love the way you explain things. I have never taught 3 part breath during asana practice. I find it a beneficial way of breathing to teach people how all the parts of the respiratory system work and to help people get away from upper chest breathing and to calm the nervous system. However, during asana practice you need to use the core so I focus more on using the lower ribcage. I will practice your method and see how it feels. Thank you.

Video kept dropping out, so missed a lot of what you said. I think this is quite similar to some breathwork I use for core & pelvic floor strengthening. I hadn't thought to use it in all asana work. I agree it certainly does strengthen your PF & core, and gives us so much better control.

Excellent thank you, really appreciate your bringing attention back to this as these were some of the fundamentals which drew me to yoga 30yrs ago. Thank you 👍 x

Thank you for this. I have a quick question: When we begin the exhale, for instance, are we engaging the pelvic floor, then the lower abdominal muscles, etc. then compressing the chest at the end of the exhalation? Or is it more of an awareness?

Yes, that's correct

Thank you for "talking me off the ledge", so to speak, with your balanced point of view. I had felt some hope in Dr. Mary Claire Haver's (who I also follow) rationale about less than useful BMI yardsticks, until I read/heard her opinion that the hip to waist ratio as a better yardstick for monitoring visceral fat. But then, of course, I also fell outside the "good" ratio... Thanks for the reminder that we are all different and need different guidance and practices than others may need. 💙

Kristine, on point as usual. If your hip to waist proportions are unhealthy, then God help us all…! That is absolutely ridiculous and I agree 100 % with you on everything you are pointing out here.
@mangaladevi369Ай бұрын
Totally agree. My body form is similar to yours, and just by reading the title I thought that ratio is misleading. Neither is the purpose of yoga to look good. Anyway, nice to hear some thoughts from you.

I've got a lot wrong with my spine and when I discovered yoga, I became the queen of modifying. Nobody showed me, I just did it instinctively. My teacher encouraged me to become a yoga teacher. I'm a terrible procrastinator, so it's taken me a while to get to this point of submitting my final exam. When I contacted the yoga school and explained how I practiced and how I am going to teach, they told me that the yoga community is desperate for teachers like me. It's an online course and I kept putting off my video of me teaching because my back was bothering me. My friend said to me, "just teach your student. You don't have to do anything" and I thought she's spot on. So I did it that way and only demonstrated poses that I could. I just have to type it all into an email and send it. Then I'll be able to teach others in the fact you adapt yoga to fit your body. Thanks very much for this video, love and light 🙏🏼🤍

This is so timely, I'm in the middle of an identity crisis. Not even about teaching yoga necessarily, but career in general, and getting clear on how I can help. I left nursing in 2018 and ever since, have not known who I am or what I want to bring to the world...what I'm meant to bring to the world/what do I love. As always, I appreciate your transparency!!
