Every new Band-Maid song rings out with new and innovative riff and chord structures, beat patterns and fills, vocal runs, backups, melodies and lyrics. The Maids continue to pack so much into their songs without them feeling cluttered, repetitive or overplayed. Their composition and execution is always refreshing and amazing to witness and hear. Once again, the supreme Maids -- Kanami, Saiki, Miku, Akane and MISA -- push their contributions to exciting, new levels of writing, playing and performance! We are so lucky to be living in the age of Band-Maid!🤘🎀🤘 Thx, Benedikt!

Listening to it now while sort-of working. Only on the first track, but I really like it. I think your music fits my taste more than your own! Zen would probably be my favourite on Epic Narratives if it were on it. At least that's how feel about it right now, and in general my opinion of their songs tends to go up over time. It's melodically very strong, and has that unexpected move to the harmonic minor 7th in the riff which I love. It also has a great longer-than-usual solo on the signature PRS, and no shortage of nice Band-Maid touches. I'd say it does have that distinctive - slightly slicker and more TV-friendly - sound that they've gone for in all their anime songs since 2021, which doesn't bother me at all as that's only four songs.

As far as the "already" goes, since it's for an anime the song might have been recorded a long time ago. I know "Different" was recorded a long time before it was released because the anime it was connected to was pushed back a couple of times. I read somewhere that it was delayed for well over a year. So it's difficult to tell when this was recorded and written. I like it, probably more than most of the last album which I still find a bit meh (so I wouldn't be surprised if this was written/produced before the last album).

A clue here might be that Kanami is playing her Signature PRS Guitar model that was officially shown to the public on November 19, 2024, when Paul Reed Smith personally handed her that gorgeous guitar. It may be likely that the music video was recorded sometime after that event, so it may be relatively recent although the song itself may have been written much earlier to match the anime intro outline.
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 14 сағат бұрын
@@uffdad8211 Like you said, it's not because they show her playing the new guitar in the MV that she actually used it on the recording of the track (she might have). But yes, in this case it's very possible that it was a pretty recent track. My knowledge of guitars is not even close to good enough to be able to distinguish between PRS models though. It's funny that I think it sounds a bit different from the new album while I have heard multiple people (including Benedikt here) say it fits right in with the new album. It might be my inexcperience with the new album, I wasn't huge on it on first listen so I haven't listened to it all that much to be fair.

@@MaartenT To me, “Zen” sounds more like “Hibana” spiced with a little bit of “Sense”. But the mix sounds very recent. Also, contrary to the usual animes which are adaptions of mangas, “ZENSHU” is an original anime. So, the band certainly had informations for the song very late in the production of the anime. The male vocalist reminds me a bit of the male vocalist of Uchikubigokumon-Doukoukai (打首獄門同好会) as far as style goes. The punky crazy music is also somewhat similar as well although Uchikubigokumon-Doukoukai is a bit closer to something like Maximum The Hormone with more metal influences. Some of their bigger tracks (the ones with the animated videos) are very different as far as style goes. The majority of their videos seem very over the top funny and that goes for some of the lyrics I can catch as well. Their 17M view top track "日本の米は世界一" seems one that is comparable to this the track you watched in this video though and gives a good idea of their style. The newest video they released (3 weeks ago) is also a good example of that and shows that they are still doing their thing after 20 years.

(Edit I put this before you went through the full track, so I guess I agree with your take) This track gives me major Japanese video game OST (especially JRPG) vibes every time I hear it. It actually reminds me of some tracks I have heard in the past, but I can't put my finger on from which OST. There are some other tracks on this album that give me that vibe as well actually. And since I used to import a bunch of Japanese video game OSTs way before I dove into their rock/metal it makes sense that I really like that aspect of the album, I think this is a great track.

I was curious to see how many vocalists there were because I was pretty sure I heard 2 different clean vocals and apparently they are a Korean (not a Japanese) Idol group (a "South Korean live idol girl group" whatvever that means), which means it's most likely all 4 of them (depending on how old this album is, because they were a 2-piece until September 2024 from what I can see). Reading the description on the fandom page I found also makes me think none of them play any instruments either (which is normal in the idol genre I guess). I have not really listened to a lot of K-Pop (honestly on purpose) nor Idol music, but I have caught a couple of things here and there and I have to say that this is pretty okay for what it is compared to some other stuff I have heard. Again, not something I would listen to on my own time but also not something I would turn off immediately which I can't say for everything I have heard in the past. I said under the previous video that Japan has a lot of groups similar to this, but I am curious if this is more unique in South-Korea or not (again I have absolutely not clue about that).

Well, the final part clearly showed they are American (edit: just found on their page: LA all-girl alternative & punk rock band). I found this to be relatively boring rock, it reminds me a bit of Rolling Quartz in that sense where I always felt that they only focus on the looks and not on the music (I have heard good things about RQs newest track though and haven't checked it out yet). This was absolutely not offensive or "bad" whatsoever, just pretty bland imo with a fake "punk rock attitude" thrown in this video (curious if they always do that). It makes it very commercial sounding overall, it sounds extremely polished for a band that is called unpolished. I wouldn't turn it off though when I hear it though and I can certainly see why people like it. And yes, it reminds me a bit of The Warning as well in some ways, although The Warning works better for me, I wouldn't be surprised if they are an influence because this band seems pretty new. And to be fair, I might sound harsh on them, but I do think it is always good to see an all-female Western band. Hopefully the rise of The Warning can help female bands get more recognition over here as well as it will also help out the all-female Asian bands to get more fans over here.

I have a feeling not a lot of people will understand your Scooter reference ;) although I just noticed they are still producing stuff and have been doing so for 30 years, so I might be wrong. I only remember hearing one of their tracks in the late '90's or early '00's just before I stopped listening to more popular radio stuff or I wouldn't have known who they were either (but they are a German act, so that makes sense). The rest is not necessarly my thing (the more metal parts in this certainly weren't bad), it's also not something I can not stand either, it's just very much an alt idol sound like I have heard by a bunch of other groups over the years. It's all a bit the same and typically something I will turn off when I happen to check out a group I don't know when I get a liveset recorded in small venues (typically a full evening of artists performing), which I check out plenty of times for a bunch of bands like Hades, Gungire, Paleneo (although I think they have grown out of those venues). Sounds like basically pure pop to me (experimental pop though). I remember the previous album having some math rock influences, but apparently they are a 2-piece now (their drummer left in 2021) and it's probably the programmed drums which give me the pop vibe the most next to all the production in general. I am not even convinced I can hear a guitar, it's all programmed sounds that are supposed to sound like a guitar. A bit similar to what a lot of alt idol groups do nowadays or the Babymetal album I checked half of the tracks from a couple of years ago (The Other One I believe). It's not bad and I can see why people like it, but in this case it's very meek and predictable compared to what I remember from the last time you checked them out (and my only time listening to them). Curious if we will get more rocky tracks, but I am not sure that's going to be the case. I might get an album or two though if I can still grab the special editions with Blu-rays or DVDs just because I am curious how they perform this stuff live.

@@MaartenT Well they show her in the video playing guitar and I remember seeing a live where she was playing too, so I will say she really does play. The last album wasn't really a rock album as well though. Progressive Pop describes their style pretty well I guess 😉 Also I have to wholeheartetly (is that a word?) disagree about 'The Other One'. Might be my favourite album off all times. Yes I am totally biased towards Babymetal, but still 😋 I know what you mean by the guitar sound though, sounds kind of artificial because it's probably loaded with effects and combined with synth layers.

@MaartenT 8 күн бұрын
@@react-o-mat Oh, I have no doubt that she can play, it's more that I don't think it sounds very much like guitar probably because of all the synth layers. But I have ordered the special editions of this album and the first one you reacted to, which both come with a live Blu-ray or DVD so we will see. It might be one of those where I listen to them once or twice and that's it, but you never know. While I typically am not a huge fan of very poppy stuff, I have listened to the Zutomayo and Yuroshika albums plenty of times, so you never know (that said, I own a couple of othr J-Pop albums that I never touched after the first or second listen, like the Tuyu and Miyuna album I own). As far as the Babymetal album goes, I told myself to check out all of the songs since they were releasing videos for them and I did for a couple of the first ones until I didn't any more. I enjoyed the first take stuff they did though even though it sounded "enhanced" at points. I mostly knew their sound from the reactions to live stuff I had seen and I was surprised how extremely produced the album sounded even compared to the pretty post-processed Blu-rays, but that might be the case for the old ones as well but I wish the Kami band recorded on the albums as well. Some of the tracks reminded me more of drum & bass than anything else and while I actually really like drum & bass, I was somewhat dissapointed with how "fake" the instruments sounded in general. But that has probably to do with expectations and taste and I am absolutely not saying it's "bad" since I only heard a couple of the tracks anyway and I don't believe in "bad" art. I believe most Babymetal fans really liked the album, so that's always a good thing. I still have some of their newer Blu-rays in a wishlist somewhere with the idea of maybe taking a plunge on them, but I already own their "Live At Budokan -Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse-" and "Live -Legend 1999&1997 Apocalypse-" which I still haven't watched completely so it's probably not a good idea. Who knows in the future, I got these 2 Cö Su Ni albums even though I wasn't blown away with the previous album you reacted to and this tracks, so there is that.

They are a fine mix of your typical J-Pop x J-Idol x Electronica x Pop Punk with many experimentations in between.It's actually dopamine in the form of sound. This is their second project if we consider "Ladybaby" and "The Idol formerly known as Ladybaby" one era. Rei did her thing with her sister and BRATS and Rie tried to keep Ladybaby alive with new members. They are a strong duo and I was really glad when I found out they were getting back together since both BRATS and Ladybaby were on life support. I have an almost 1 hour and a half playlist of them on Spotify which is ideal to play in the background when doing chores around the house. Keeps you moving.
