For your patch that you did on the rear of the truck. When you weld the patch in...I noticed you make your spot welds randomly around the panel to prevent warping. Then you go back and fill in the welds. I have a few questions....first, what wire do you recommend for the welder, and do you use a Gas or straight flux core welding wire? Secondly, do you do the spot welds until you have the entire panel completely welded in, or is that not necessary, and then use the Seam Sealer to prevent water intrusion for the areas where there are no welds? It appears that when you grinded off the excess weld material, the entire panel is welded with no gaps to ensure a watertight seam correct? I have no welding experience, but do have a mig welder, and plan to start maybe doing similar bodywork/sheetmetal work on my Jimmy. Gotta learn somehow, and I really have nothing to loose with the ole Jimmy. She's was a beater hunting truck that has been sitting for entirely too long. I need to get an engine for it, or rebuild what came in it (on the cheap)
@Farm10customs
@Farm10customs 18 күн бұрын
@@rbljackson You can use flux core wire. I prefer gas, and I use .030 wire. I do continue to add spot welds in a way as to not create too much heat in one area, Adding spots until completely welded. After all the welds are ground down, again trying not to create to much heat in one place, too much heat in one area can cause warping. You will probably need to add more spot to voids. When I’m happy with the panel, I like to add a skim of fiberglass reinforced body filler to create a barrier, incase there are any small pinholes, so no moisture can get through. I hope this helps you, remember, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Have fun with it

Nice. Now that you have a ram did you add brackets to the tie rod assembly? For future add ons have you thought about the backside of the tool box? For a shovel, planski or?? Even the bottom of the tool box can be a drawer, shelve etc. I used muffler clamps for my highlift. Drilled hole in the small vertical lip on the inside of the bed. Put the removable clamp part on then double nutted the top bolt in place. The bottom part was used like the bolts that you tack welded and thumb screws with washers. No where as elegant as yours and with current prices yours might be cheaper??. You can buy depending on the drop wanted, 2 1/2" ,3", 4" you get the idea.

@Farm10customs been making it through more than a few of your videos and gathering ideas. I currently have 4 square bodies and need to trim it down a few. Love them. Also have too many classic Broncos. Plus too many other vehicles 🤪. One of the things I did in a couple trucks and will change for my use deals with a shovel holder. I did the muffler clamp with a coupler nut to move the head out some and give the handle a way to attach. Take a piece of pipe, I used fencing top rail left from my wall tent frame. About 6" long welded a bolt in the middle and screwed to the coupler on the muffler clamp. The other end I bent a piece of rebar into a U shape and welded a bolt on, a bungee to stop rattling. Again attached to mc. Next time I will just use a piece of strap metal drill a hole in the short lip, bolt through and attach pipe to the strap. Similar on the other end. Give it enough drop to help it stay handle down. BTW I'm in NW Montana. I'll keep going through your videos as time allows. Thanks for doing them.

Sold one of the broncos, need to sell 1 or 2 more. Need to sell a couple square bodies. My 69 firebird convertible problem has seen less than 200 miles over the last 3 years. I would angle the fuel inlet towards the tool box- bedside corner. From what you said about the body i would cut a hole and run it flush with the body. The angle going forward would open up a little better storage on that side and less chance to damage the fill pipe. You can never have to many tie down spots on the deck. I would have tried to leave the strap long. Run the tail past the back mount then through. Run the ratchet part through the center hole of the rim then tighten, watching to make sure it won't get cut on the center hole. I'm going to have to go through your videos for your pipe bending hack. How do you like it, anything you would do differently? Thanks

These are 37x 13.50-17. Later when these get worn out I’ll step it up a bit more. Thanks for the support
