Good demonstration. Personal input: The inside radius on the pot support stands is too large for smaller containers to sit without spilling while thru the boiling/cooking process. The need to hold your cup during cooking as not to spill. Top of pot stands/supports too slick. Have been using this NON shaker stove for many years. And have learned it's ups and down problems. Be sure to use the stainless fuel line cable to clean the fuel line when needed. Clean the jet, stove parts. Clean and lube the pump body. This stove can be used around the seasons. It's Superior blue flame shines in the cold of winter.... Any mods made on this MSR Whisper Lite (Pre Shaker) stove would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, from the Great State of Texas

Does anyone know whether these are induction compatible - stainless steel usually is but I get the feeling the base needs to be flat to make full contact with the stove top?

If not the view, the Lewis "I was here" scrawl near the top make it worthwhile going there. Gives you some perspective as to where they went as they traveled west.

I lived in Livingston in 1988 me were interested in the history of Lewis & Clark. We went to Pompey's pillar when you could walk around the pillar and go right up to carving two months it became a protected National monument. If ever you get a chance look at sacagawea motal in Three Forks it refurbished by a friend of mine later sold in the 90's. Also check out the Sacagawea pageant in three forks held every year, she was captured in Three Forks area by the Mandan tribe of northeastern North Dakota.

My straps all cracked around 7 years or so and had to replace. Otherwise they're great. The extensions are a waste of money. Heel lifts are mandatory.

Mine has been sitting in my garage for 7 years with the pump/valve mechanism screwed into the fuel bottle. Any precautions I should take before using it again?
@outdoorinitiative
@outdoorinitiative 5 жыл бұрын
as long as it's sealed I don't thing you would have any problems. might want to start it and run some fuel threw it and make sure it operates properly. if it sputters or won't run then you know you need to break it down and clean it and get fresh fuel.

*These are excellent in snow.==> **t.co/3pni5adKE1** I purchased these to snowshoe on our conservation land. The land is hilly and brush covered. These handled the terrain. I snowshoed in 5 inches of snow. These are nice because they strap on like ski boots. They are easy to adjust.*

Thanks for the video! I have these snow shoes and they are a game changer. The "televators" are brilliant. I have hiked all of New Hampshire's 48 4,000 footers in these shoes and they are holding up great. Just curious, where do you hike most frequently? Thanks again.

any ideas why the stove will prime but then it won't go to that blue flame and instead stays a red flame (even with valve very far open)?
@outdoorinitiative

hey man! not very active on here anymore, sorry so late. the only thing I can think is that the atomization tube is not hot enough. maybe because of too much fuel. a teaspoon in the bowl then let it burn down and crack the valve. should hiss with the blue flame. hope this helps.

Buyer beware! Eddie Bauer recently "updated" this once-awesome jacket and it is a shadow of its former self. The sleeves no longer have gauntlets/cuffs, so expect a stiff breeze to blow right up your arm. Also, the pockets on both sleeves are gone. Most incredibly, the coat is no longer filled with down, so don't expect it to keep you quit so warm. The lining is also not quilted quite as well, missing altogether the diamond quilting near the base of the neck. And there is no longer a lanyard in the pocket. The one plus with the new model is that there are pockets on both sides of the chest now, rather than only the left-hand side. First Ascent has always carried a premium price and a premium reputation, but the reputation is suffering due to the cutbacks in this coat. I will no longer consider First Ascent gear without a serious once-over. By the way, it is easy to tell them apart. The old (good) jacket has a red interior, and the new one has a blue interior.

I would always bring the space (safety) blanket. My dad and i always brought it, but never used it, but then one time in the Sierras, unexpected rain poured down (12 hours of rain, 5 inches) on us as we went across muir pass, our clothes inside trash bags were safe, but our sleeping bags weren't. The space blankets saved us from a miserable cold night! Never know when you'll need something.

I would invest in a can of bear spray, it is much lighter than a gun. And safer, and more reliable in some cases. Its better to scare away the bear than to kill it.
