I don't think you can have 20ys experience doing anything... because you weren't using 256GB USB sticks 20ys ago. I'm certain the way you do anything you do today, wasn't done the same way even 10 years ago.

The design is the issue, for not having a one size fits all(or most) cable. If you can order the product incorrectly, that's a product defect.

What type of cylinder and cam was used at the interior? Does this work with a schlage cylinder?
@drewinstallshardware
@drewinstallshardware 10 күн бұрын
These were Schlage large format IC. The outside cam was the regular storeroom type (I’m not sure of the different names of the cams). The inside cam was skinny and short! 😆 I hope that helps. But yes the inside cam is special.

I noticed you’re using 18v makita tools. Currently going through a tool change for work (also door guy). Going from older hilti power tools to possibly makita or dewalt. Do you ever find yourself possibly needing the more powerful 40volt makita tools rather then the 18 volt stuff? Hilti was great , but not powerful enough sometimes.
@drewinstallshardware
@drewinstallshardware 23 күн бұрын
I have found that the Makita 18volt are great for everything I need to do. I do use a double battery 7 1/4” skill saw and also a double battery heavy duty big boy roto hammer for drilling dust proof strikes. They are more than enough to handle the stuff I do. I’ve never had Dewalt stuff basically cause I started with Makita and think they are the best.

Check the frame manufacturers installation instructions. After about 30 years, I learned those spreader bars are used for shipping and are supposed to be removed prior to installation. I learned this when I complained that the bars were welded in at 35-7/8 and not 36" and some frames were "twisted". I cut various thicknesses of plywood "shims" around 4" by the width of the frame. Easier than messing with a big stack of wood shims. Surprised that frame isn't required to get grouted. I just used a trick I learned from you; installing the top weather stripping before the parallel closer arm. They were overhead stops and hold opens so we need to move the arms a bit but worked out great. It's like a game changer, thanks for the education!
@drewinstallshardware
@drewinstallshardware 29 күн бұрын
Man it always makes my day to hear that a video helped. Thanks so much for the support. 😎 And you’re absolutely right about the shipping bars. I tend to set level and then plumb hinge leg and then I check plumb of latch leg. If latch leg is not plumb it tells me that bar is off it lets me know right there. Then will knock it out and set right. Wood spreader cut to the right number is better tho like u do. Happy hardwaring!

Who is your door supplier? And how do you order a door with pre prep hole ? For example I am wanting to order a door pre prep to fit a Von duprin 99 with lever trim. Every time I ask my supplier to pre prep the holes he never does. I am just wanting” i “looking prep.
@drewinstallshardware
@drewinstallshardware 23 күн бұрын
We install doors from lots of different suppliers. I don’t have much experience ordering doors but I would think ordering with the prep would be really easy 🤷‍♂️ how many holes and cut outs come factory prepped makes a big difference on install time.

Drew I don’t install many panic devices mostly just maintaining them. But when I do have to install a new one get intimidated by them. Watching your videos and listening to your commentary has helped me immensely, the tone of your voice is very calming so when I do an install I think back to that and it seems to make the install much easier. Thank you for the videos.
