I priced 5 items 2 weeks before the sale started. Fore of the items are now shown with higher prices that are slashed by various percentages to the same price of two weeks prior. The fifth item (a robot vacuum cleaner) has a new price that is slashed to $30 more than it was before. My two cents are BEWARE OF AMAZON SALES.

how long were the cables? To measure differences the cable should be over 50 m. Cat is certified for 100 m cable. Bur at home you never have cable length over 30 m. Cat 6 or seven makes no difference at home. CAT8 is total overkill, and to expensive. With Cat7 you are future proof at home. If you have Cat5 or 6 installed recabling makes no sense.

we bought a router because our factory sky modem struggled anything over 4 wireless connections, i had a cat5e hanging about and didnt think much as i didnt know much about ethernet speeds buti soon found out if i wanted to download through the new wireless router the speed and connection was awful, i bought a cat8 and its as if im using the factory modems wifi, i know multiple wires and general radio interference would of been somthing but since going cat8 even if it is over kill it definately has made a differnce in my downloads and PING, both cables are 5m long so lenght wasnt the bad factor in that respect

@@TheTechNie so if my router is pushing out speeds between 500mps and 700mbps but my plan is 8Gig. Would replacing my cat 6a cable that connects my modem to my router, with a cat 8 cable, would that make my router push out faster speeds?
@TheTechNie
@TheTechNie 2 ай бұрын
@Joe-lc3sv No it won't. You need a faster router, not a better cable. The cable from the router to the modem is probably not that long so in terms of cost maybe a couple of bucks to upgrade the cable, but you will still be limited by the router's speed. Here is a fast router - amzn.to/4dSgGDV This has 4 1-Gbps ports so you can use wired connection or 5.4 Gbps wifi.

@LeJimster

This is good to know, my home is wired with a mix of Cat 5e and more recently Cat 6. We have everything running at 1Gbit with no issues and I suspect looking at the technical papers 5Gbit should be possible considering the cable runs are relatively short <10m. I already have the option (but not the need currently) to upgrade to 2.5Gb internet, so its nice to know I don't need to rip everything out and install new cabling just to be "future proof".

No mension of the "length" of the cable . I am sure that cat5E is ok if only 5-10 feet long! But if you are going near the length limit (100m 300feet or so ) for cat5e 100mbit will be ok but at 1gig you may start to get slowdown at 2.5gig you may find cat6 or 7 is better and by the time you are on 10gig........

I went with CAT6 for my whole house. CAT6 can do 10Gbps in 55m, which is plenty for most houses. I've read that CAT5e could do 10Gbps at up to certain length depending on the quality of the cable. This is not in the specs though.

I have G.fast 1,000Mb/s down & 1,000Mb/s up. I'm getting the full 1,000Mb/s G.fast speeds. I've used both Cat6 26awg and Cat5e 24awg going between my G.fast modem and Wi-Fi/Ethernet router. Between the 2, over Ethernet from the router to both of my desktop PC, I was getting 938 to 947 both ways over Cat6 26awg and 979 to 984 both ways over Cat5e 24awg. I'm thinking maybe the lower wire gauge in the Cat5e may have something to do with the faster G.fast speeds.
@TheTechNie
@TheTechNie 4 ай бұрын
Depends on what you used for testing. If you used something like a Speedtest, there are many external factors that affect the speed. It certainly seems plausible that larger diameter wire i.e the 24awg should get a bit faster speeds. Maybe a test with similar type Cat5e but with different gauge can be tested.
