B and D were my favorites. When was the last time the Deluxe Reverb had a fresh set of tubes?

I preferred D the most, then B over A, and C I did not like at all, too much treble for me. Relative to these 4 maybe I just preferred the darker sound since D sounded the darkest to me as well. Very nice shootout, curious how the Strymon Iridium would have compared to this group

B and D for me… actually I thought that D was the real amp, I have the amp actually, but this vid makes me realize that the ox box is good, but the actual amp with a mic is something that just cant be faithfully emulated… even so, loved the tonex…

A-C-D-B. I love my Deluxe Reverb and my Dream’65 pedal, but both of them underperformed on this video. The TC is a very good pedal.

I thought for sure C was TONEX. It sounded a lot brighter to me and a bit brittle, if I'm being completely honest. This has me rethinking TONEX. I have TONEX One, but it's too limited to be useful for me. Might need to give the full TONEX a try.

Nice playing! I don't love the sound of the guitar itself though... especially in finger picking style.. the notes sound kind of poingy, which isn't an actual word. But ultimately just not as bright as I would like for my taste. You should review more guitars though, this was a great format of a video.

I’d love to see this become a regular series. And as an added wrinkle, instead of the 1981, use one or two Tonex ones with captures of overdrives and captures of overdrive stacks. But whatever you do has to fit on the PT Nano each week.

I think this would be interesting to play with those two mixers in different environments God blessed all those nice people throughout the world

I love mine, had it for nearly two years now, my other is a 000-28 and I reckon the 7 is actually better.

I'm not sure, but in the beagginning i prefered the clean tone A, in the second part of thje clean riff, the C, I looked out for bigger range response mybe, looks i little bit more headroom, i cant explain, but in the clean mode I prefered the C, then the A. In first drive the same, the second drive i prefered A over the C, mayb I felt the drive`s "dust" i little bit more, but certainly, i Would choose the C, or A.

I’m curious what type of speaker and cab you had dialed up on the OX Box with the real amp and on the Dream plugin. Also, how’d you capture the real amp? What mic and did you use the stock speaker? Thanks!

Well-shocked. I only liked A and C. That TC pedal sounds ril', ril' good.

B and D are very similar. A sounds the best. C is meh

So a question - were you using the built in cab sim of TC Electronic one?

Until you did the quick cuts I thought the all sounded pretty much the same. But there was more difference than I thought. I didn't like D very much but went back and listened to the clean quick clips again and low and behold. B & D were very close. I really like A quite a bit. I don't know if they were all going through the same speaker simulation or not. If not, that can make a big difference. Enjoyed the video.

Great format for comparison, especially the quick cut head-to-heads at the end of each clean/drive section! A and C sounded best and most clear to my ear in both clean and OD shootouts, with B and D both sounding muffled... but I know that's can be a speaker sim aspect (I've got the UA and dislike a lot of the speaker sim options). I do wonder how much the OxBox impacted B in that aspect.

Everyone has their own tastes for tone. To me C seemed a little harsh on the high end, but may work in a band mix. Overall D was my fav. It just sounded the most natural and warm. Interesting that the ToneX capture sounds so good. I've been using a ToneX One for my amp sim along with my HX Stomp for effects. The Deluxe Reverb captures in the ToneX One are incredible IMHO.

Before the reveal, on last round I really sure that B is the Amp and D is the Tonex. I really amaze with Tonex how close that is. Great video!

I preferred C every time, followed by A. I'm actually kind of anti UA pedals because the one I spent a ton on (Ox Stomp) didn't work as advertised. But of these 4, their plugin was the one I liked best.

Did you try the delverb?

To me every time, B came out the best by far, C sounded weak and tinny to the the point I doubled checked the description to see if there was a cheap multi FX in the challenge. I have the UA Dream 65 pedal, and it sounds so much better, perhaps this is because of the plugin, and possibly some tweaking, I dont know, I dont use plugins

At first listen A & C had the most clarity. B sound less dynamic in the high end then D had the least amount of dynamic it was muffled and very boxy. Once you add the drive and wet effect they really took a different shape. B and D became the examples that did not hold up. The high end and boxy sound were even more noticeable. They was not must dynamic especially in D. But I was really surprised by A. I thought it was the Amp. I thought D was the TC pedal. And wasn’t sure if B or C was the TONEX or the Plugin. I have been comparing the plugin to the TONEX for my Sunday rig. I’m not in love with the Deluxe sound of the TONEX. So I was very pleased to hear that C was the plugin. I do prefer the sound of the plugin because it has the dynamics and break up that I love. I was very surprised by the TC pedal. Great Comparison. I know people love TONEX. I’m still not sold.

I thought D sounded boxy which is not how I would describe an open back Deluxe Reverb. Could just be the way it was captured. The TC Electronics pedal really holds up well in this demo.

Sounds awesome! Could you do a video for a newbie who's just ordered tonex? Along the lines of how you dial in everything to get the most out of your tonex and get the captures sounding great. The software is not the easiest to use! Thanks man!

Never do reveal in the same video, always wait until next video and make sure people are not cheating with their votes just to be right. Glenn Fricker has done this the right way, waiting with reveal and making sure that the viewers REALLY need to use their ears to decide what they like.

At first I thought A was the UA until I heard C, then I thought A was the real amp and C was the UA because of that high end harshness and fizzy overdrive. I thought B and D sounded dull by comparison…going back to listen again with the blinders off.

I recognized B as the real amp and think that D was close enough. But I would be OK using any of this solutions - especially for recording or going straight to PA.

So we learned three things. 1) Tonex sounds the most like the real thing. 2) Sometimes modelers sound even better than the real thing. 3) TC Electronic sounds twice as good as UA for half the price!
