This is great. Exceptional level of detail that is very usable. Owned 9 of these, all 79+ due to preferring FI, and the 79 was still carb'd. This build is correct and well done. These cars are fairly simple, but still more sophisticated than say, MG cars. One of the most fun cars anyone could ever drive, and best handling.

Hi Mark just writing to share some information that you or someone you know might find interesting. There's a very fast 2-litre naturally aspirated X1/9 racing in Europe this year, has a cylinder head from a Ferrari V8 on the original 1500 Lampedi iron block, capacity 2-litre. I'm saying this because Ferrari heads come up cheap sometimes. Some of them are pretty sophisticated, 4 or 5 valves per cylinder with variable valve timing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJSmm5iFm5qCiJosi=jsPDt6bnY8lUmWrs

There was me thinking that the pipe box had to be sliced open to replace the pipes. Great to see your much cleaner approach. Tks again for great instructions.
@x19australia3 ай бұрын
Sometimes you need to cut the pipe, but only if the rust is so bad that the pipe won't come out or it breaks off inside. It just depends on the car's condition. There was always talk that the tunnel was part of the structural integrity of the car, but I really don't know if that's true or not. So I try to avoid cutting if I can.

Definitely better with your own actual voice rather than AI. Is there any reason you didn’t redo the pipes in stainless steel? I did mine that way a it wasn’t much more expensive.
@x19australia3 ай бұрын
These pipes were already made, so it was an easy solution just to buy them rather than find someone to bend stainless pipes for me. The steel ones will last as long as they are looked after. Often, no coolant without corrosion inhibitor is the reason these rust.
@thewholls71763 ай бұрын
Good job mate. I used to wonder back in the day about replacing those pipes with long lengths of high temperature reinforced hose…… and thereby sort of alleviate the rust and access issue there’s a lot of hose available from the dairy and food production industries that would do the job……..
@x19australia3 ай бұрын
I have seen rubber hoses used and I think older Ferraris used this method. The problem is it's not rigid enough to put down the tunnel. The steel works fine as long as there is always coolant with corrosion inhibitor in the mix.
@thewholls71763 ай бұрын
@@x19australia Yes I had it all worked out at the time and I thought about the difficulty of passing a flexible hose down the tunnel And I was going to gaffer tape some thin rope to the end of the hose pass that through first as a feeder using something like an electricians wall strap Then pull the rope through from the other end which in turn would pull through the hose Never got around to it ………..!!!!

Good job mate. That brought back more memories and some nightmares. I have to admit on my car I left all of those bottom covers off just to try and get the heat out of there a bit better - it also helps for quick inspection Also you might be interested to know that Kent cams in England used to make a top cam pulley that was adjustable and you could back it off and hold the centre portion still and rotate the pulley a few degrees either way to dial the cam in spot on Worked very well - definitely made horsepower on the dyno with those adjustments

Good job mate that brought back memories although I’ve never seen that particular bolt break before I did my X1/9 clutch once and after I finished the job. It would not properly disengage in neutral long story short during the process. I dropped the friction plate on the floor and the impact splayed the spot where it hit the floor and possibly put it out of shape a touch so when it was in neutral, it would not let go of the clutch face and it all had to come out again and buy a new clutch Back then the go to brand was Sachs - or something like that And cluches at that time had a tendency for the springs in the friction plate to go bad before the friction material wore down…… frustrating Easy enough job to do compared to these days…………

What wud you expect to pay for a driving x19 in roadworthy condition?
@x19australia7 ай бұрын
That's a really hard question to just answer. There are so many factors to consider, but here are a few things to think about. The location of the sale can make a big difference. For example, if in Perth, there is less chance of someone on the east coast buying it, so the price is lower due to fewer buyers. The series and colour also makes a huge a difference in value. Over all roadworthy ones will sell for $8,000 to $34,000.
@sandro21227 ай бұрын
East Coast. 1300 4spd complete& running. No crash history. Rust bubbles appearing on non structural areas but overall minor. Soild reliable vehicle. I thought $8k wouldn't necessarily buy a running ir roadworthy x19
