remember, the elbow should create a straight line thru both shoulders out to the other elbow to create a seesaw effect.

Yes, One fluid motion. Either way, it gets you results because I use both service motion with same results. For me it causes the returner of the serve to react and anticipate differently ( guessing). Andy Rodick delivers a power serve both ways.

Great vid! I have a student that does exactly this and I couldn't figure out a simple way to explain the error as well as you did. BTW the student in the vid is pausing too much in the racket drop, but u already know that... :)

How long does it take to learn to serve? I read that if you practice the serve for an hour, three times per week, you may be able to learn to serve in as little as a year. Does that seem right, or is that too optimistic? What is it reasonable to expect to be able to do after a year? Say, getting the serve in 50% of the time with medium pace - something like that? How much extra time would it take after that to be able to do things like a slice or kick serve? Another year?

when body goes down, the racket goes up(trophy position with knee bent) / when body goes up, the racket goes down (head drop with jump) / when body starts to goes down again, racket goes up (impact) / maximizing racket momentum using delayed opposing forces

my opinion is that all ground strokes can be broken down into 3 steps, turn, step, and hit (Tennis America). He describes each step very well.

Tip for you my friend! There;s no need to drop anything!! start position there was good (can start before and get there, of course), so from there, simply attack the ball with the elbow!! The "drop" will happen naturally without much speed loss!! If you force the drop, you lose speed, as it happened on the video!! Its mechanics 101!! Kind regards and keep it up!
