I'm currently replaying through Bomberman 64 and, with the exception of a couple tracks, I got a funny impression that the soundtrack felt a lot like a mashup of Mario Party and Mischief Makers (especially Green Garden). The Boss Intro Theme #1 and #2 are Mischief Makers-esque to a T. I looked up the composer and was surprised to find it wasn't the same person, and also that Akifumi Tada's library of work is actually rather small.

So much love to those continuing to push this game into the future. One of my favorite soundtracks and games of the N64 era. I will always Stan for this game. So cool to see a soundfont. Marina being added to the last Smash Remix version was another giddy moment for me recently. Mischief Makers has such a slow and gradual, but organic base after all these years. My only wish is that there is a vinyl release of this at some point. I only know of a rare Japanese release on CD. Pipe dream.

WHY IS THIS SO FITTING AAAAA
@professorlamp
@professorlamp 6 күн бұрын
Question on the instrument side. If you were to make a vocal instrument that speaks in vowels (AEIOU). Would each vowel be it's own instrument or would you have them all in the same one? I guess fundamentally it is a "vocal" instrument but maybe people would be confused if halfway through that one instrument it switches to a new vowel? But on the otherhand 5 instruments seems a bit over the top. Still very new to soundfonts so I'm unsure of what's the best process here
@SoundFontGuy
@SoundFontGuy 6 күн бұрын
In the case of a soundfont, each vowel would be a separate instrument within the soundfont. The user would be able to switch between them manually, but they wouldn't switch automatically. Hope that helps, let me know if there's anything more I can clarify!

wow this is definitely garbage. all you did was slap some free soundfonts into a shitty ugly interface with some reverb (hopefully they are at least the ir's provided online ..free as well from shirobon)..I can't imagine how you would come close to accurate emulation without irs tho..this should be free and for fun bro...

Hey, thank you so much for your comment! None of the sounds in this plugin are from soundfonts - I created all of these sounds myself, from scratch! The reverb is not convolution, and is not intended to be a 1:1 with the PS1, rather it is just a simple reverb algorithm that is customizable and has a retro flavor. I love Shirobon's music, and his contribution to the music production community with those IRs is super valuable! But they weren't used for this! I'm quite fond of this interface, as it was created by a member of my community. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but most people seem to be responding well to it! I think $15 is a very fair price, and hey, great news! It's sold almost 700 copies! But hey, I understand not everyone has $15 to spare, that's why there's a version that's 100% free! That version has been downloaded over 1600 times!

@@SoundFontGuy Your Point being? In my opinion, not really a good analogy. If all Computers didn't have Sound Chips, Sound Cards or Soundfont Software's, Then All other Audio Files and Electronic Music Would Never Exist(I think), And Then MIDI Files Wouldn't Have Sound. But We Have This Stuff, so MIDI Files Play using The Classic Iconic Synthesizer Sounds We All Know And Love. Sure MIDI Files Play Using a Different Method Then Say MP3 and not all Computers have these Sound Chips, But I'd Classify it As Sound. I Will Never Understand Why People Say MIDI Has No Sound, All I Know Is That Playing Doom or Duke Nukem 3D on a Mac is impossible.

@@InfinityHell666 I thought you were making a joke. MIDI files don't contain audio, they contain notation information, and they utilize PCM synths (like the windows MIDI instrument library, licensed by Roland) to make sound. I'm a bit confused by what this plugin's goal or purpose is. Is it basically just playing a soundfont? If so, why can't it load and play any other soundfonts? Why did you make this a plugin instead of just putting these instruments into a soundfont? Can it do something that a regular soundfont can't? What's supposed to be the big appeal of it? I feel like I'm missing something. I also don't quite get why the sounds are divided into discs the way that they are.
@SoundFontGuy
@SoundFontGuy 13 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment! Here's a rundown. GuyEngine's goal or purpose is to mimic the musical style and texture of a specific era of video games. Particularly N64, Sega Saturn, and PSX. It is not playing a soundfont. This is not a soundfont player, but a sample library. I'm a long time lover of soundfonts, hence the name, but the format is unfortunately extremely limited when compared to other, more modern forms of sample library (like VST or Kontakt). For example, soundfonts lack the capability for things like round robins, built in effects like Reverb, Delay, Chorus, etc. It also lacks the ability to apply a custom user interface. Using the VST/AU format allowed me to take full advantage of the benefits and features of plugins. Full transparency, another personal benefit (for me) of using a plugin over a soundfont is that soundfonts simply contain a collection of raw audio files that anyone can dump. Using a proprietary format offers *some* degree of copy protection, as there is a ton of illegal distribution of copyrighted samples in the soundfont community. The appeal of GuyEngine is that it has a full GM library of instrument sounds, recorded with that classic ADPCM texture in a format that is modernized, optimized, and current. It has a built in retro-style reverb, delay and an LFO for a user customization. It also has a unique UI that aims to pay homage to retro consoles for a nice aesthetic. Furthermore, all of the samples/instruments contained in this plugin (and any subsequent expansions and updates) are 100% original. Nothing ripped from games, romplers, or sample packs. Video game soundfonts contain copyrighted material which has been illegally copied and distributed. With GuyEngine, users needn't worry about infringing the copyrights of companies like Nintendo, Sony, Roland, Korg, etc, while still having a neat tool to make music inspired by their favorite classic games. As for the discs, they simply separate the large library into smaller, more digestible categories. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!
@HLRxxKarl
@HLRxxKarl 13 күн бұрын
@@SoundFontGuy I see. Fair points. It would still be cool to see it have support for external sample libraries like soundfonts. I feel like there's still room for it to grow too with features like layering multiple instruments together in a single instance. And I'm not sure if you've already done this yet, but with the pattern your soundfonts have been following, it would be nice if they could easily swap between the retro and hq versions within the plugin. Keep up the good work, and I'll be keeping an eye on it.

@@SoundFontGuy Oh yeah, I knew you didn't design it but I thought it'd be great if you let in video description a warning about this bug. I think the cause of this error is the path of the file (like "C:\Users\Desktop\sample.wav"), because the "Desktop" in my pc is translated as "Área de Trabalho", in portuguese. Possibly, because of the accent in "Área", couldn't figure the path. When I put the samples directly in C:\, the path was simpler and therefore didn't get an error.
