@FoxerTails4 ай бұрын
@@milk_bath Sure, I don't know what it takes to bring a VST plugin to life... but what I do know is SNESVerb and Chipcrusher go for $20 and $39 USD respectively. They both offer the SNES "reverb" with Chipcrusher only being a bit more expensive due to modeling actual DAC chips/circuitry and it being Plogue with their dedication to bit-accuracy in everything they do. With this in mind and considering the fact that the N64 implementation of "reverb" is just a modernized version of the SNES's, it should stand to reason that the plugin should at least cost $35 - $40. Not $50. At least, in my opinion.

Looking for Genesis reverb? It didn’t exist! To recreate the effect the Genesis used: Since there was no reverb or delay, they had to use a second channel to play the exact same audio, slightly quieter and slightly delayed. So today, you would use a single delay with no feedback, set for maybe 60 ms. The delayed channel could also be a slightly different synth, for instance, less bright, so you could play with filtering the delay. For the most authentic feedback, literally use a second synth and delay its signal slightly, and mix it with the original.

@SoundFontGuy4 ай бұрын
I'm a bit fan of chipsynth SFC, and I have to say that the delay is all but identical as far as I can tell. They're both faithfully modeled after the original hardware. One main difference is that I don't believe the delay settings in Game verb can be transferred to other plugins. However, it does have the delay settings from pretty much any SNES game you can think of already built into it, and you do have the freedom to develop your own!

Does the n64 even have hardware reverb? I thought the audio "hardware" was just a dumb DAC like modern PCs which imo is one of the big problems with the system becauee the n64 has notorious memory bandwidth problems and having to constantly write to an in memory audio buffer instead of lett8ng an actual soundchip handle it doesnt exactly help. I mean yeah i do think audio code is actually usually handled by the RSP with uploaded microcode, but, then again, all memory accesses have to go through the rsp because the CPU GPU and ram are all connected to it in different locations and separate from each other...
@SoundFontGuy3 ай бұрын
Great point. The N64 doesn't actually have hardware reverb. The reverb algorithms are programmed in the software of the games. A few first party games use delay, but the vast majority of the rest of the catalogue uses a comb filter - again programmed into the software of the game rather than the hardware of the system.

Nintendo will sue this company i feel like since they are selling a plugin with their trademarked names and also presets named after nintendo games
@SoundFontGuy4 ай бұрын
I understand why it seems that way, but there isn't actually any copyright infringement happening here. You are allowed to reference copyrighted material as long as you aren't making unauthorized copies of it. I imagine they did their due diligence before releasing this. There are many many softwares and plugins available commercially that directly reference copyrighted material. GameVerb doesn't actually use any copyrighted material, they simply refer to it. The same way you might use a VST that emulates the Roland Juno with presets named after other synths and songs. Like "JUMP Van Halen" or "JM Jarre." You are creating something inspired by these things, and mentioning that, but not stealing.
@dustyoverstreet6484 ай бұрын
The words used to describe a thing cant be trademarked. For example Mario and his likeness are a trademark of the Nintendo corporation but the name "Mario" is not owned by Nintendo nor is the idea of a man with a mustache, red shirt and overalls. But of you put those together and tried to sell Mario merch on ur own Nintendo could come for you over a copyright infringement. Or if you where to create a game console and tried to name it "super nintendo". But simply making a plugin inspired by nintendo is not infringement at all, there are no official logos or pictures of Nintendo IP anywhere here so they are good.
