being new to mixing how should I be using the SSL for a snare in relationship to the parametric EQ on the console? typically the frequencies I target for a snare are the 200hz, 8khz and a cut within the 500-900hz range so should I be targeting those as well with the SSL? I am just a little confused on why I would use both and how to use it correctly.

Great video, just for the explanation of compression alone, but the entire video is a solid overview of mixing guitar. I like Kemper profiles since I don’t have anywhere to mike up a loud cab without annoying my neighbors. Mixing always feels like trial and error, I’m trying to get some base settings at this point. Identity what I like in the mix and stay consistent from track to track. I feel like I do more mixing than playing when I record…

Sir, how do you put those eqs reverbs and compressors on a live gig?. Do you need the analog equipment for it? Thanks for the video
@kairophilos19 күн бұрын
Depends on the setup you have. Different mixers have different features. Is it an analog mixer or a digital one? I'm not too familiar with analog ones as I haven't really worked with them, but digital ones like the Behringer X32 or Allen and Heath SQ6 offer digital effects and you can route things internally by pressing a few buttons or using the touch screen. These have on board compressors, EQs, effects and stuff like Real Time Analysers that show you the mix's frequency spectrum in real time.

@kairophilos nice! Many Thanks, so I can say to the sound engineer "add some delay and eq like this" to simulate the sound I use on my homestudio

You should also check phase between different instruments (drums bass guitar keys horns etc).
@Rocknrolldaddy81-xy8urАй бұрын
With basement drums, It’s better to do it by eye & ear if you’ve only got a few mics. You’ll often can’t fully align distant mics, but you can nudge. It’s way to do by eye and then you can check with ears.

Hi bro,merry Xmas 😁 really nice tutorial,thanks for sharing your knowledge. Would be great if you could cover compression for different types of guitar situation un the same way as you covered the piano...like lead,clean picking,rhythm,ambient etc 😅 Also,what most people dont't share on youtube....how to record drums,bass ,keys ,guitar ,vocals... the process ...if we should apply Eq,compression etc for recording. Continue the great work.thanks mate

DO YOU HAVE GUITAR PROCESSING GIG ON FIVERR?
@FransJCMartinsАй бұрын
To fit a piano into a mix firstly train your keyboardist piano person to stay off the notes that belong to the bassist. Hi Pass at around 80 Hz to make space for kick and bass. Train your ears to find the issue spots. Questions to ask: Where does the piano, guitars and vocals overlap? Obviously, the vocals are the most important, so, carve space in other instruments to make space for the vox. EQ is not always the correct answer. A compressor, side chained to the vox may be all thats required to duck the piano or guitars out the way of the vox…

I thought it was awesome! I would’ve liked more drums, kick, and toms, as the string instruments seemed too dominant. This made the band sound a bit off-time since I could barely hear the drummer. If the entire kit matched the snare's volume, it would’ve been great.

Yes, after phase alignment the need for a lot of the extra eq and compression is gone. Let's you use those things only when you want to.

What do you do if it's not letting you change the BPM in the tempo track?
Very nice presentation and the "tricks" used to bring a piano close or distant. Compressors have always had a bad reputation that destroys audio BUT you show us how they can enhance a mix. Thanks

I was a little skeptical when you started scopping pretty heavy. But I watched until the end, didn't realize you had it mirrorerd in a second channel, and it cuts through well. Makes me question what I'm doing when I mix 😅
