Guys can anyone tell me why should I use clipping if I can just use volume faders to change the volume between the kick and clap for example ? Like couldn’t I just make the clap louder instead of clipping the kick to make the clap sound louder ?

Expert sleepers usamo “manual” makes zero sense!! How did you setup with ableton???
@Rr0gu3_5utureАй бұрын
I use Cubase Pro 12 so I'm not familiar with Ableton, but I imagine it works exactly the same way with every DAW. You load the USAMO plug-in as a VST Instrument in your DAW. You then route the Audio generated by the USAMO plug-in to a Spare Mono Output on your Audio Interface. This Mono Out on your Interface is then connected to the Physical Audio In of your USAMO's Hardware Box using a standard 1/4" mono jack to jack cable. The Audio being sent from the DAW going into the USAMO Hardware Device is then converted to MIDI Information and spat out the other side in the form of 5 Pin MIDI DIN. You use the plug-in to select your midi channels and clock settings/ swing etc, and depending what type of Audio Interface you use, you also might have to flip the phase on the audio 180°.

@johngorgis Nah, Mazda were a French brand of tubes that would buy tubes mainly from companies like Brimar and Mullard and put their own print labels on them.

Great video :) How did you connect the RD-9 to the computer? USB midi? I have mine synced to my DAW's clock (sync mode set to USB), and it starts/stops using my DAW's controls, but it doesn't seem to play midi notes that way. It plays the pattern that's currently loaded.. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what it is .. any ideas?
@Rr0gu3_5uture3 ай бұрын
If you don't want to use Clock, and want to trigger MIDI notes on your RD-9 over USB from you DAW instead. Set SYNC to INT, to select what USB MIDI Channel you want to use: press SETTINGS, then press the 2/USB button, using the DATA dial you can then select from MIDI Channels 1 - 16.

I like that 1978 on EDM music you play, do you think it's too much of a stretch to use it like a mastering compressor for EDM style of music? Everybody says you have to have VCA style compressor for fast paced music, but FET is not slow at all, if you want to glue things up, you have to have some "hold on time" with compressor ... :))
@MOOTANT16 ай бұрын
You could use it as a mastering comp but I think its more suitable for use across the stereo bus or sub groups. Its a decent hardware compressor buy I would recommend you make sure you really like it within the available no hassle return period. I think that's two weeks for most stores.
@b.hornetiii.67716 ай бұрын
@@MOOTANT1 Yes, thanks, I hear what it's doing, and you don't go "full blast treshold move" in mastering, maybe max. -4 db, so if this can't handle that small amount of compression without "destroying" the mix with saturation (when no saturation is applied) than what's the point of making such a unit. :)) I will try it.

why not just using the FMR RNC instead for sidechain, beging much more affordable?
@modulosonoro17 күн бұрын
RNC is really only for level control, no mojo to be found there. Better off using Klanghelm MJUC in the box if that's your only stereo hardware comp.

They’re getting very expensive! … I recently purchased an Eventide H10 and was quite dissappointed with its tone as it doesn’t really work for techno. I feel it’s too polished and produced, too hifi If you will. Of course for other genres it’d be just what you need but I’d say get yourself a dp4+ if you want to make classic techno.

can anyone tell me if this would help with vocals. i’ve been using the la-2a to add volume and add body but it only ends up sounding squashed in headphones. would this be something i could fix with eq? the vocals only sound squashed when im listening in airpods and headphones
@MOOTANT18 ай бұрын
Vox is probably not the best use of a Clipper but there is no harm in trying, If I were to use a clipper on a vocal it would be a kind of FX thing I'm looking for, or want a particular vocal really loud (for some reason).

One thing to note about usamo, is that as accurate as it is, midi still is a serial interface, so the sample accurate thing is only when sending only one event at a time (like midi clock). From the moment you send two or more events at the same time, it´s not sample accurate anymore (only the first note!). Each note on event is approx 0.9 ms, so 10 notes simultaneously gives you almost 10 ms of jitter. Usamo still is the best option though. One good way to check midi timing is recording some fast notes on a hihat or some short percussive sound, and see how aligned to the grid is. That´s a more "scientific" approach. I don`t have a 770, but I have a DJ-70 which I bought for literally 30 dollars, and I wanted to see how good the timing was. I´ll do some tests, as I also have an usamo. Cheers and thanx for the video.

Greetings Claude, I know who you are 😎 About 2 years or so after making this video I stopped using it. I found that sending midi from the PC's USB to hardware was very acceptable. I cant recall if I changed anything in my system at the time which forced a change in my opinion. The USAMO whilst it does what it says on the tin - and is accurate, it does come with irritating issues. Of course sending midi to hardware still comes with audio latency issues but I tend to use the delay track function to get around the problem and in general I'm a little less obsessive about timing. In fact, I use the track delay function on a lot of elements now pushing tracks back or forward which does make a difference to overall vibe/feel. If you're using the USAMO to send midi clock its a good choice, but for general midi notes check out the difference between standard internal USB and the USAMO. Good luck 👍
