We're taking a break from the livestreams and teaching classes so I can focus on our current project which is a complete rebuild of our website and school. I'll start doing weekly livestreams again when we get closer to the relaunch of the school. It's still a few months away but once things are up and running then we'll be highly focused on creating KZbin videos and weekly livestreams. KZbin is a big part of our future plans.

I would like to know, how do you rotate the head in space with the Reilly method when you are creating you own head, wouldn’t that be the great thing about the Loomis method???
@foundationartschoolАй бұрын
The Reilly method was designed as a way to work from photo reference which is why I have stopped using it. I was trained to use the Reilly method at Watts but over they years I have realized it has many limitations. I have switched to a more constructive type method that is a hybrid of all of the different methods I have studied combined with some of my own ideas. My classes use photo reference but the way I draw/teach is designed to teach students constructive methods that can be used for figure and head invention when they get to be more advanced. There are some concepts about rhythms that I learned from the Watts version of the Reilly method that I still use but generally I would say that I don't use the Reilly method anymore.

This channel is awesome. One thing I still find hard to pinpoint though is that 'corner' you were talking about that rounds out to Loomis' flat side plane. Is there a video where you showed where it is from the front view? It's a bit unclear to me on 3/4 view.
@foundationartschoolАй бұрын
That's something that I talk about a lot more in my classes. I'm pretty sure I talk about it in each of the head drawing livestreams I've done as well so you can find more information there. When the livestreams start back up again I'll make sure to do a front view head drawing demo as well.

In the meantime I would recommend watching the past livestream videos. I know they're long but each one is a full demo with a ton of good info.

Is gesture the same of rhythm ? Im trying to learn about gesture/rhythm but its very difficult to me
@foundationartschoolАй бұрын
Gesture and rhythm are similar but not the same. The way that I draw actually combines the two into what I call "rhythmical gesture" and "structural gesture". I don't think I can explain what the difference is between all of these in a reply to a comment but I'm actually planning to make a KZbin video about this exact topic. We're going to start making KZbin videos again in a few months when we launch our new website which is still a few months away. You can also ask this question in the "Questions for Brian" part of our discord channel if you don't want to wait for the KZbin video. That's a place where I write a lot of detailed answers to these types of questions.

Great vedio my friend I tried your formula and it works I know it works I been drawing three quarters views starting with the loomise method also I want to make it clear Loomis drafted the head in many ways actually the ball method came from a rare artist Emilly Grace Hanks, the thing is that loomise advanced it to a another way, and Loomise was honest about it he explains it in fun with pencil or drawing the head and hands Loomise was very much into teaching g in his days he studied several artist especially George Bridgman and you can tell how he master the ball method and Bridgman s way all in one single method, I admire loomise because I'm old school I love the classic s especially his buetiful art He should be always remembered but hardly anyone heard of him
@foundationartschoolАй бұрын
This is Fascinating! I've never heard of Emily Grace Hanks. It looks like she was designing teaching tools that were very similar to what Loomis created. I'll have to look into this more when I have time. Thanks for taking the time to write this. It sounds like I should go back and actually read some of what Loomis wrote. When I study those books I usually just copy the drawings and don't take the time to read the text.

Hi Brian where did you buy that beautiful mid size ecorchè I can see behind your shoulder?
@foundationartschool4 ай бұрын
that's from anatomytools.com. The model that I have is maybe 20 years old at this point and they no longer sell that exact model. But the ones they sell now are still super nice models. The only downsides are that they are really expensive and also frequently sold out. If you do buy one and intend to use it for drawing purposes then I would recommend buying the yellowish colored ones. The only thing I regret about mine is the fact that I bought the "medical' version where all the muscles are muscle colored and everything being painted red makes it difficult to tell things apart from a distance. I have a female model from the same company that is the yellow color and its much easier to make sense of.
@marcoferay57514 ай бұрын
@@foundationartschool wow thank you for answering Brian, I will check them out and maybe have a think about that, I definitively need an ecorchè to not open the anatomy book every time i have a doubt lol without considering the “real” thing in front of your eyes definitively makes stronger what you see in a book I suppose

I'm glad I found your channel. I like the Loomis technique but I been stuck on it so long I just about gave up. The front view really throws me. Your brow area and side plane tutorial opened my eyes up to seeing how it comes together more structurally. I had to subscribe. Thanks.

Good Morning Good Sir, I would like to thank you for reigniting my love for art. I kinda ditched art, all forms of drawing back in 2022. I had developed a very unhealthy relationship with art back then. But I've been following you on Instagram for a while. Your structural approach to deconstructing anatomical forms, it resonates with me. I was never good at drawing faces, my faces were by far the worst part of my drawings. That's why I never touched portraits. The Loomis method never worked for me. But your instructional videos on drawing the face, especially the brow ridge and placing the eyes, they've proven to be really helpful for me. Somehow, since the past couple weeks I've mustered the courage to pick up the pencil and get back to drawing, and this time, I'm doing faces, faces everyday. Yeah, I can understand and learn anatomy, but faces were never easy. Thank you very much for all your instructional content, it has given me a different sight into designing anatomy in terms of forms and shadow shapes!

Thank you! Ive wrestled with this for years! You provide excellent instruction. I do however have one question. How do you determine where the vertical corner line is? Is it purely observational by looking at the model, or is there a technical placement for it?
