One thing I´ve noticed is that the more cycle lanes and bicycles there are, the slower cars automatically move as motorists (me included) become influenced by the slower pace of life around them without even thinking about it.

I was interested in 'HPV's as they were known then back in the 90s. A few years ago I discovered the KZbin videos on Velomobiles and I'm really impressed with how far they developed, with convergence towards a design that is practical, efficient, ergonomic and aesthetically attractive. The world needs to catch up...

Some years ago I had the room for a "Leitra" and asked for a test from a, north of Copenhagen Dealer. But I would have to pay a sum for it, as it became claimed that they needed to change pedals, I think! It would have been fine from my then home in southern Sealand, but I must admit that paying for a Test was more than I intended to use for a buy!! Finn. Denmark

I met Carl in munich in 1985 with his Leitra. My dream of a better cycling-world in the cities is unfortunately still not reality. Velomobils are still expensive… Cars are now SUVs.

I saw this firstly a few years ago. What this did for me was to drive my preexisting contempt for the useless and over emphasized bike helmets. For me they're an awful lot like the idiotic and useless China Flu masks, which I rejected 100% just the same.

Yes, he sure should. A pity he or some of his company couldn`t make it to Spezi 2023. I am not sure that many customers today are aware, that they still can buy a new Leitra....

Really interesting interview. Carl should get more recognition outside of 'Cycling' circles than he does at the moment. He's absolutely a pioneer and legend in one. Can't wait to 'Upgrade' from a trike to a velomobile!

Copenhagen is supposed to be the most bike friendly city in the world. I see nothing bike friendly here. The cyclists are outnumbering the motorists by a factor of ten to one, yet are given only 1/3 of the road to use. Of course, law prohibits the cyclists from taking any part of the road other than the bike lane, let alone the whole road (which would be fair). Each change of the light, most of the few waiting motorists get to go through the light, while apparently hundreds of cyclists must wait their turn in the queue, which at the peak takes more than one cycle of the light for anyone arriving from across the river by bicycle... This video shows an absurd, upside-down situation - the result of segregating cyclists using the infamous "separate but equal" doctrine!

You sound like one of the weird Vehicular Cyclists - the one's with the wacky, unproven theories. I wrote about them in my book Copenhagenize - but here's an article: www.copenhagenize.com/2010/07/vehicular-cyclists-secret-sect.html
@borisstarosta7823

@@16nine In my message above, I'm not advocating any theories at all, let alone unproven. I'm pointing out an unfair situation that is plainly visible in the video. Most of the infrastructure is constructed to benefit a teensy tiny minority of privileged users: motorists. It's upside down, on the face of it. Thanks for linking your piece on Vehicular Cycling, I read it. I think the problem with Vehicular Cycling is a critical mass problem, and a problem of motorcar worship by the infrastructure designers/planners. If all these riders, shown in this video, would simply take the lane(s), there would be no need to fear collision with a motor vehicle. The small minority which is motor vehicles would be slowed to the speed of the cyclists, which would be all over the place. As you know, speed kills; with motorists thus slowed to the pace of cyclists, injuries and deaths from collisions would be reduced. (Okay, so there is a theory for you!) Here's an article about how Copenhagen "separate but equal" cyclists most commonly get hit by motorists (nominally, because they are not cycling as vehicles in traffic). But Copenhagen is making improvements: www.copenhagenize.com/2008/07/117-safer-intersections-in-copenhagen.html

After watching the entire film, I have to complain about the plot: It is way too good. Also, the acting is believable, the story is like a latin romance, and it made me cry and laugh way too often. PLUS I didn't know Mikael Colville-Andersen was a believeable actor, director and story teller. This is all too much for me to consume. Why is this movie not more well known? It's like the band Gong or Todd Rundgren, whhy T F don't people know about all this? Sona Jobarte, Gambian coraz player and singer? Zapp Mama? Anyone? Try this, then, for some more unknown surprises: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWjbao2ofJ2ejrc

EXPANDING UNIVERSE IN HOLY QUR'AN MENTIONED1450 YEARS AGO. Who can claim 1450 years ago that the universe is expanding? والسماء بنينها بايد و إنا لموسعون o " And the heaven We built it with power, and indeed, We are the expander " (And We it is Who make the vast extent, thereof ) (Qur'an, 51:47) it has been expanding from the moment of its creation not when it described in Qur'an. Until 1931, physicist Albert Einstein believed that the universe was static. American astronomer Edwin Hubble showed Einstein his observations of redshift in the light emitted by far away nebulae - galaxies. When Edwin Hubble explained that the universe is expanding, Einstein called his view of the cosmological constant the "greatest blunder." It is clearly mentioned by Almighty Allah as one of His signs in above verse. It's study , research and explanation was left for researchers in future. It is not a " new scientific discovery of all time" as they claim. It is not " the greatest discovery of 20th century", as Stephen Hawking said. Almighty Allah says: " Should He not know what He created? And He is the Subtile, the Aware." (Qur'an,67:14) The knowledge of scientists is limited and it is not justified to reject the existence of Almighty Allah relying on little knowledge. There are many signs of Almighty Allah mentioned in Holy Qur'an 1500 years ago. The modern science knew them recently. Ofcourse the efforts the scientists are have been making for understanding the universe are appreciable and praise worthy. We are grateful to them. DR.MOHAMMAD LAEEQUE NADVI Ph.D. (Arabic Lit.) Beautiful...I visited it back in 1994 many times. Miss it very much. But one question. Adults and so on but why no more helmets on the heads??? I counted maybe 6 person with helmets.
@EusebiusAT
@EusebiusAT 3 жыл бұрын
Well, basically because the infrastructure already makes biking way safer than in other countries. And because campaigns for helmets decrease the number of people that bike, which of course makes more people drive cars and cars are much more dangerous for cyclists. Also, cyclists are more reckless when they wear helmets, so it's unclear just how good of an idea they are. If you ask any individual they'll simply give you a reason like: "it looks dorky", "it messes up my hair", or "I don't want to carry my helmet around the rest of the day". Basically, people don't really care that much.

Dear Mikael, my home city of Brighton, England is currently struggling against the tirade of car-centric design. So many of our large junctions and important roads are dedicated to cars only, with buses, cyclists and pedestrians suffering. I’m trying to do something about it by contacting local politicians etc, but have you got a decent reading list for someone like me? I’ve cycled since being a kid so understand that - but want to start leveraging that knowledge more usefully by reading up and helping people wake up!
