Sorry, I totally disagree with your merciless review. I love Crossfire, and so far it's the game that has thrilled me the most, as a fan of the original Gundam series. The possibility of playing it in co-op even in split-screen is fantastic, the gameplay is reasonable and not so frenetic that you don't understand anything during the melees (like in other Gundam-inspired games), the missions and settings bring to life the events narrated in the anime. I think the developers' goal was to immerse the player in that mecha world that has fascinated us so much as fans of the series, and they succeeded. You're certainly right on some points. Can the game be improved? Sure. The graphics, the interfaces, the interactions and the gameplay itself make me think that the game was released too soon, and incomplete. Maybe for production or contractual reasons. But the feeling is right, the best for me as a Mobile Suit fan ever. I would be thrilled at the idea of a Crossfire 2.

Fun fact: here in the US we mostly just call it "target in sight" when speaking about it, despite it saying "crossfire" on our copies.

Perhaps you should play through it on Expert difficulty. Enemies attack more often and you may die once in a while. I died like 5 times on the final boss as he can be quite cheap on Expert as he can throw you through your combos, and therefore can't combo him.

I’d really love to see that. It’s definitely a very bold move NOT to fill the game with random grunt battles and have it all be just the fights that happened in the original story. It’s quality over quantity all the way, and sadly that’s pretty much the opposite of whatever direction Bandai Namco, who currently have the rights to JoJo, are going for.

Take a shot every time he compares this game to THPS. LOL just kidding, this video is good. A lot of the game’s quirks make sense if you’re a skater. Turning left or right while setting up for certain tricks like bigspins, 360 flips, or anything with a lotta wind-up or scooping is very much a thing in skateboarding. You do lose a lotta speed while grinding as well (especially on crusty, unwaxed cement ledges) and you also may be having a good session, but then make a mistake and snap your board in half. This game was clearly a skate sim made for skaters nearly a decade before EA’s Skate series. It’s very rough around the edges but I love this game and know it’s not for everyone.
@ryoma0045 Жыл бұрын
I think I counted 10 times 😂 Thanks for watching! Having skated for over 20+ years I agree with what you're saying with turning and setting up for tricks that require rotation, I just don't think it's particularly implemented well in this game personally, but really that's due to it being one of the first to make a 3D skateboarding game so there wasn't much to compare itself to. While I also agree grinding does lose you speed, it's dependant on the surface which this game treats as the same for everything regardless of whether it's a rail or ledge unless it's on an incline. I've certainly grown to enjoy it more over the years, it just wasn't for me at the time when I originally bought it not long after release but I'm glad to hear there's people who can enjoy it quirks and all.
@_mazarico_ Жыл бұрын
Definately, it’s all exaggerated in the game. Clearly a first draft of a game that never got a sequel (I’m aware of the Dave Mirra BMX game that Z-axis made afterwards) that could have refined the rough edges.

So this was my first intro to gundam, picked it up a few weeks ago and frankly I kinda like it. Somewhat of a strategy game with the turn system. And as for the ‘clunky’ controls. I though it felt like driving a real machine. It’s not fluid. It’s aquard… just like driving a bulldozer. But I got kills and it makes me feel badass. Like I’m really dealing with experiential gear
@ryoma0045 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're enjoying it. There is fun to be had here, but for me after playing Side Story 0079 on the Dreamcast so much I was expecting a lot better experience than what I paid for, especially on launch of the PS3. My biggest gripe is the frame rate, which in turn unfortunately affects the others parts like controls and the actual moment to moment gameplay. Having played years worth of GBO2 and Side Story where the game moves at a regular pace but you feel like you're actually piloting giant suits, if this ran consistently at even 30fps I would definitely enjoy it a lot more.
@OtherDAS Жыл бұрын
Exactly. You're not piloting THE Gundam, you're in a different lousy Mecha. Which you need to upgrade. It takes skill, planning, cunning and strategy. Change of weapon options and armor helps too.

Problems I have with this: • The idea of an arcade game with just quizes here-and-there is kind of boring. A story-driven telltale game with quizes for bonus-stage points is a lot more ambitious. • Instead of adding *Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers* on Vol. 2's compilation, they added the unneeded *Block Block* which belongs on the PSP's Capcom Puzzle World.

While the fighting is tankish in this game, once the controls can be got down it is quite fun with a 2nd player. I only play 2 player on this game, and it makes the experience much better. Human interaction from the opponent helps you figure out how to play the game a bit better. I'm not gonna lie to myself or anyone else and say it's amazing, but it's quite the attention grabber when you ask a friend if they've ever played a Yu Yu Hakusho game and you whip out the 3do and this. One thing I really like about the fighting is that every character fights differently, and you can't just spam buttons like other fighting games.
@ryoma00452 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You're probably right that this is a better experience played with another person as I can see elements that do make for a fun fighter. I've unfortunately not had the chance to get anyone to play this with me as when I do we usually play UMVC3 or third strike, will have to try a bit harder next time! This along with the Sailor Moon game do a good job at showing off what the 3DO could offer for fighters, I'm just surprised a lot of these games stayed on the console and weren't ported to other systems where they may have got more eyes and sales for them.
@archive3do7692 жыл бұрын
@@ryoma0045 yeah Japan treated 3do in a weird fashion. It got exclusive fighters that other regions and platforms didn't. And even outsold the OG Xbox 2:1 in Japan. If you haven't already, check out Ultraman Powered. It's not amazing by no stretch, but it's a clunky mortal kombat feeling fighter. It's eons better than some garbage like rise of the robots. It's also got a good frame rate and smooth scrolling/scaling. If you're interested in another anime based game, check out Goal FH on the system. It's some soccer anime from Japan.
@ryoma00452 жыл бұрын
@@archive3do769 I've given the Ultraman game a go a few times as I was looking to speedrun it, definitely has that clunky heavy feel to the fighting but at least that's reminiscent of the series it's portraying. With all due respect. No. And by "No" I mean "Hell no". Players are more toxic than games like COD:WZ, Fortnite, and even Xenoverse 2. The gameplay is misleading as 9/10 battles are you begging teammate to save you and you get bullied by the enemy. Teammates are genuinely out to kill you just as much as the enemy is and if you get that one in a million player who carries, supports, and is friendly. You'll never be seeing them again. The other players are often out for themselves so you're on you own in a 1v2 or 1v5 and because the devs haven't made getting to a certain rank or level is much of a milestone outside of tokens for more repeats and tickets for suits you likely have already, people can and will Smurf(Making a new ACC and using it to beat up on newbies like its Freshman Friday while also soaking up free tokens that are used to start new players off on the gacha system.) Worst of all is the connection. Dodge all you want, you'll still take damage. I-Frames are a lie in this game, hit boxes are wonky af, and the peer to peer connection makes it even worse. What's even worse is that MS are built to stunlock and stop you from being able to play. Suits locked behind a pay wall sometimes. Because the gacha system is programmed to screw everyone out of their money, you'll spend on a full step up and get a lackluster MS or wonder why you went for it so hard. Please DO NOT play this game or encourage others to play. At the very least don't spend money on it. If w show our disdain then maybe they'll fix or make a third game that is actually good and doesn't hide flaws behind graphics, a large roster, and flashy ads. Because if the put as much effort into making it good then I wouldn't have to bash one of my favorite Japanese franchises.

I pretty much see all the same issues as well....not just awful connectivity and matchmaking. A nearly full lobby could potentially wait 10-15 minutes or more just waiting ONE more player to join! Even worse....if someone goes afc even after the lobby does fill. And the bloke who stepped away doesn't ready up, the match is cancelled and we're back to matchmaking for another eternity. I'm also not really digging the fluidity of the combat mechanics. Stun-lock/gank meta for days....smh And the Mobile suit movement overall is like they decided to take the simulator route and turned it up to 11. As a result we ended up with mobile suits not being so mobile. No where near how they are depicted on their respective OVAs. I don't mind mechs feeling heavy. I just don't care for restrictive measures cramping the experience in the name of " balance" the rng and loot system.......hell naw . I've said enough 💯
