Just did my oil change using my new valve. I'm 61yrs old and this was simple to use. No mess at all. I suggest getting the one with the nipple and a short piece of tubing. Not one drop of oil anywhere. Drained all out in record time. Used a paper towel to wipe the valve once I removed the tubing....it was clean...this valve is a must buy for any DIY'er!

Don't forget to tighten the valve by grabbing it *over the actual valve body* (the piece with the writing stamp), NOT over the small end hex 'nut'. If you try tightening it over the small hex nut, guaranteed to damage the valve and cause later slow leaks that you won't detect in time and will have a surprise with your engine. Use an adjustable wrench or a large size regular wrench.

To be honest, I don't find draining an oil pan to be that messy. Just put the oil drain pan in the right place ahead of time, slowly unthread the plug with your hands out of the way of where the oil will drain, and you should get very little oil on your hands or the floor. Even if you get a bit on your hands, just replace your disposable gloves. You are wearing disposable gloves, right? I will admit this valve definitely makes the job faster. There's no doubt about that. But for something I only do twice a year, speed isn't important. Removing the oil filter on the other hand, uhh... if you make a product to somehow make that part not messy, you will have earned my money.
@spai492 Жыл бұрын
If you put a zip lock bag or any bag really around the filter as you unscrew it, you should catch all the oil.

How long does the product last?
@UnknownGod72 жыл бұрын
I just copied and pasted lol I'm not with the company. You can expect our product to outlast your engine, a lot of our customers have had their Fumoto valves for 20+ years! As for the gaskets or o-ring, you don't need to replace them in most cases. However, if you remove the valve and install it again into the oil pan, please replace the gasket or o-ring. In case oil leaks from the gasket, you may need to replace the gasket or o-ring to fix the issue. You can always purchase a few extra gaskets, just in case.

@@UnknownGod7 this is worth looking into. I have 2 vehicles -- 12' Equinox & 16' Maxima (both base models). Is it recommended to have this product fitted on a Maxima? Everything on that is stock but I'm only worried about the ground clearance for that instead of the Equinox

How about a test with some higher viscosity? Say like with oil? Something 420-650 cps vs 1 cps. And do a side by side of our old valves. Thanks.

Tip: Oil filter Changing. While the oil is draining with your fumoto valve. Take a small screwdriver and hammer and tap a hole in the bottom of the oil filter. Now of course you have to position your oil drain container so that it will catch the oil as it is draining from the valve and the hole you tapped. Now once the has stopped. Just unscrew your oil filter. No mess

It looks like, after removing the factory drain plug, the Futomo unit is installed onto the factory drain plug gasket (which was stuck on the oil pan). Is this recommended as the Futomo unit already comes equipped with an “o-ring”?
@YankeeCherokee4 ай бұрын
Old comment, but NO. Remove the old washer/gasket. The valve comes with two integrated o-rings. See their website for more details. Hopefully this helps someone.

Nice clean quick oil change every time. 5 minute oil change for my 2017 Subaru wrx. 7 minute oil change for my 2016 Scion FR-S . 10 minute oil change for my 2016 John Cooper Works Mini Countryman. Don't have to worry if someone fucks with it. If u don't see a puddle of oil under your car. That means nobody fuck with it. Besides my cars are kinda too low to crawl under it without jacking it up.

These work great in things like boats, motor homes, generator housings. Anything with an enclosed engine bay where it's difficult/impossible to do an oil change. I just ordered one for a hovercraft. You add the hose, leave it attached (with optional end plug), and then vacuum out at oil change time (marine grade oil vacs). Actually am looking at adding them to some of my ag equipment. As per the "small opening" what's the difference between a one minute drain time and a two? I'm usually staging everything and pulling the oil filter while the engine is draining anyway. Also, if you don't like burning your hands then get the engine barely warm and shut it off. Or wear a couple layers of nitrile gloves.

Once little adolescents figure this out, expect issues. Kinda like sugar in gas tanks. Big rocks through windshields. Kids do it to laugh, ive had both of those things happen to me. This would be one more id have to worry about. Btw I live in a low crime neighborhood so its not that.
@yakadee110 жыл бұрын
Fumoto's been selling these valves since 1976 - that's 38 years and I haven't heard of a rash of adolescent pranksters wreaking havoc with people's engine oil. How would anyone know you have a valve for a drain plug? Do you think kids are going to be crawling under cars looking for this when maybe 1 in a 1000 cars might have one? Right, sure they are. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but they could undo your regular drain plug in 20 seconds with a crescent wrench if they want to bother, which they won't. Why would they want to get their clothes and hands dirty? There are much easier ways to prank people. Plus, it's not easy to miss a gallon of oil that has spewed all over the ground. The stuff will be EVERYWHERE. You'd see it and/or smell it before driving away.
@MistAtsiM10 жыл бұрын
yakadee1 true but here's the catch, do kids go around checking every car if it's locked or unlocked. Can they get in the car if it's unlocked, sure, but I sure as hell ain't gonna make it easy for them.
@MistAtsiM10 жыл бұрын
What if someone gets underneath and drain the oil without me knowing? Id have to check it to make sure its good and it would just add more paranoia to me. I feel like there should be a key or pin of some kind to push then turn the lever.
@KentuckyRanger7 жыл бұрын
If someone really has it out for you that bad, they'll just use a pair of pliers to get the stock plug out... Also, I think you'll notice 4~6 Quarts of oil on the ground under your car...
@MistAtsiM7 жыл бұрын
Kentucky Ranger what about if ure going off-road. Will it shake open? Would a branch get stuck and open the valve by accident?
@KentuckyRanger7 жыл бұрын
No way it would! Plus, if you plan on off-roading, they sell a plastic lock that will make it impossible to inadvertently open. I also have a cover on the end, to keep dirt out, and just in case the valve does fail, will keep the oil from escaping.

I never thought buying one of these was worth the money until the first time I changed the oil in my wife's new "to her" '05 Subaru. They put a HUGE drain hole on that car and when the plug comes out the oil practically explodes all over the floor, the car, and me. I'll be getting one of these just to keep my arms from getting coated in oil!
