Looks like a Cicada Killer Wasp, or a Cicada Hawk, its not really a "Wasp" like the typical asshole wasp They generally dont bother people unless you step on them or grab them roughly, and even when they do sting its basically like a mosquito bite, they dont have the same kind of venom a regular asshole wasp has en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphecius_speciosus You had a much more pleasant experience on your first encounter than i did, one got into my house and landed on my neck and i LOST MY shit, hit it with a frying pan and knocked it across the kitchen, then i googled what the hell it was and felt terrible because it wasnt a danger to me, i just went into "WASP KILL!!" Coconut sugar works pretty well for me as a brown sugar replacement, or regular sweetener in baked goods. Sometimes I’ll add some maple syrup if you need some extra sweetness. The coconut milk and creme work great in baking! I usually prefer dairy for drinking but the coconut milk can be a good substitute for creamer in a pinch. I’ve been wanting to try Azure for a while too! A little farm store near me started carrying some of their stuff. They have some really good products.

I've been thinking about trying Azure but i/m on the fence about it. My closest drop is near Oxford PA which for me is about 45 minutes to an hour away. Since I'm still working full time I not sure about the drop times world fit my schedule. I'm also contemplating Thrive Market for the delivery option. I'm also a household of one so unless I pair up with a friend I'm not sure about doing Azure.

My San Francisco sourdough bread gets its flavor from the bacteria that produce acetic acid and lactic acid. The bacteria eat alcohol. That is also why wine will turn to vinager. Yeast eats flour and water to make CO2 gas and alcohol. The "hootch" is the alcohol which the bacteria will use when it can get to it. Stir in the alcohol to feed the vacteria or pour it out and let them starve.

A start is a start is a start. The start provides a yeast colony and a bacteria colony. It is those two living elements plus the type of flour used that determine what the bread will be. The type of flour in the start is only to feed the yeast and bacteria.

KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID! Yeast produces two things. Carbon dioxide gas and alcohol. The gas makes bubbles in the start and in the bread - DUH. Its a gas; it floats and leaves when the start bubble break. The alcohol does not mix itself. It rises to the top of the start. Mix it back in so the bacteria can consume it and produce the acids that give sourdough bread its flavor. Those who pour it off are loosing part of the process. Why???
@DelawareAcre5 ай бұрын
Depends on how sour you prefer your dough… I’ve read many threads on sourdough, and some people mix it back it & some people pour it off. No need for name calling here…. Just making some sourdough bread over here! Your kitchen your rules… and mine in mine. Thanks for your comment!
@charlescresap44513 ай бұрын
The longer the start sits, the more alcohol is produced by the yeast, until the yeast runs out of food. As the flour sits and sinks the liquid alcohol rises to the top. Stir it in so the bacteria can consume it or pour it off. It is the yeast and the bacteria from the start that makes the dough rise and flavors the bread. However, the flavor of the bread comes from the type of bacteria in the start and the length of time it has to work in the dough, making acid. If the bread is cooked shortly after mixing and rising, the bacteria won't have produced much acid. 12 hours in the fridge makes some acid, mild flavor. 24 or 48 hours of rest makes more acid. If the rest is too long, the yeast tires, the proof is too far. Hootch is just an old name for alcohol. It is consumed by the bacteria and what is left evaporates during baking. If you don't like it, buy Wonder Bread.

I just got my 4th load delivered today out of 4 drops since 2019. Every load is by a different company, and the chip consistency varies. I don't think I'd consider your chipdrop as a fail, just that maybe since you have a higher standard maybe just buy some mulch next time.
@DelawareAcre5 ай бұрын
It's many months later, into the fall season now, I'm STILL picking thorns out of my shoes. For the level of frustration the thorns have given me, purchasing mulch might be a fantastic idea! I guess a pair of heavy soled work boots would be good, but I just cycle my old running sneaks into garden shoes...
@billshepherd50905 ай бұрын
@@DelawareAcredid you specify that you only wanted chips or that you only wanted certain type of wood? That might help with the thorn problem. I’ve recently signed up for a chip drop and said chips only. I want to use it in my garden and raised beds too. Free chips with a cpl wheelbarrow loads of thorns beats spending over $100+ in my book.
