Great video and greetings from the UP. We are about to pick up(weather permitting) a ‘20 Bambi 16’ in partial trade for a truck to a friend. Looks like the Caravelle has a few key differences, that rear bedroom window/screen looks amazing… Does that use a single black/grey tank? If so is it a pain to flush out when dumping or does the black water do good enough of a job that you don’t feel the need to put some extra water down through the toilet or shower? I have yet to see it in person yet but being 6’1” is sitting in the toilet feasible with the legroom? Not sure if we are going to keep it or sell it as we have three kids so unless I can make a good setup for one kid to sleep on the floor it probably isn’t going to jive. I like the idea though and perhaps behind our camper van could make long trips more enjoyable. It seems these have a pretty good amount of living space for the size though.

Thank you! And the black/grey combo tank works good for us. We use the park bathhouse most of the time and always for showers. But everything always flushes just fine! And not sure how someone sleeping on the floor will go. But hey, if you can make it work, do it! We anticipate as our boys get older that they’ll get a big tent to themselves and mom and dad get the airstream at night!

Good for you in your changes. Love the look of the 16 footer. How’s it working with the bed (and 6’7”!)? We have a 22FB Bambi and would like to go larger for those twin beds… maybe a 25-26 footer. Subscribed😊

The bed is a little tight but not impossible. Especially if you put your pillow on the bumper storage thing just beyond the edge of the mattress! Also, the dinette side bed is even longer!

Aww what a cute baby, we camp with 3 kids ages 4, 5, 6 and its so much fun. If it was one baby I think we could have managed camping but with 3 super little kids it was so hard to just get in the car. Love this video, your kid is going to love camping! Also omg the cats are sooo cute!

Wife and I retired in 2020. We bought a new 25 Foot Flying Cloud. CoVid hit from the time we bought it (Feb 20th) until the time we picked it up 3 weeks later. It sat in storage from March until May and we finally had enough and hit the road figuring we could self-contain ourselves in our new Airstream. We don't full-time in it, but we do take long extended trips. We live in Texas and that means major summer heat, which we escape during the summer months. This means 2 to 3 month long road trips. I also figured we would be spending most of our time outside, but I failed to consider the bad weather days. We spend 5 to 6 months on the road a year. It was during these extended road trips we discovered sitting at the dinette was very uncomfortable for us on those rainy days. That is when we decided the 30 Foot Classic was the only solution with the couch and extra space in front of it. We ordered our Classic in December 2021. We finally pick up our new 2023 Classic on 11/10 and we love it! It was like going from a low end 20K car to a 250K Luxury car in finishes. We went from the queen to a twin model as well. We couldn't be happier. I bought the 25 footer thinking I could at least get into the national parks with it. In our 2.5 years of traveling I have yet to be able to get reservations in any of the national parks when I would like to visit visit them. That is when I realized the longer length wouldn't be an issue for us with our style of camping. I also went from a 1/2 ton truck to a 1 ton dually long bed earlier this year. We are about to head out on our first trip and we are really looking forward to having the additional storage and living space. The other reason is when you live in a large house you are use to certain levels of comfort. I just wanted to give you a story from the other side of this reasoning.

Thank you for this video. I’m 6’10”. I’m interested in airstream beds. Can you comment on sleeping in the Caravel 16rb as a very tall person? Also, is it even possible in any way to sit on the toilet?

Yes! Jim here, and the bed is snug but still very comfy. I tend to put my pillow up on the storage hump behind the mattress and am able to stretch so the way out. As for the bathroom, it takes some focus to maneuver in there, especially with the door closed. I often just sit down to put with the bathroom door open so my legs can hang out in the main space. Ask this to say, totally doable!

I wanted to truly complement you; But then you pull that mask thing at the end and yet through out the entire video you're not wearing a mask? And then the impossible meat which i like. You talk about cow killing but then you video the Bird Killing Wind Mills that you so proudly video as if it's cool, but more like an Eye sour.
@FreeandSimple
@FreeandSimple 2 жыл бұрын
We would wear masks whenever we are shared public spaces, especially indoors. And while we do think the windmills are impressive, especially as an alternative energy source, we have actually talked about this very same thing, how they can sadly end up harming another part of the world, specifically the birds.

Good stuff and congratulations on your baby 🌅 Well that tiny TT is an attention grabber thats for sure. But not practical for us now a 19 i can see that. Or if I want real small TT and that I can buy out-right would be Tab 400. We sold our Base Camp and purchased a Grand Design XLS 22 mle. I have camped 3 years now and been to over 150 camp sites and most TT's under 25 feet in most tight sights. We Eat Meat 🥩. So when are you getting the Electric ⚡️ truck. Noticed the Bird Killer windmills that has to be the worse energy producer and bad for wild life.

I am late to the conversation so maybe you have it all figured out. Getting some air flow helps with the humidity. If it is warm enough crack the Fantastic fan open and crack a couple of windows also. If it is cooler then crack the Fantastic fan and run the heat. We do this even when the temps are in the upper 20's. My wife and I had an Airstream Sport 16rb which we loved but I made two upgrades to it. I got a 125ah lithium battery and a set of 200 watt portable Zamp panels. Camping the way you are you can probably go for a 3 day weekend on just the battery. If you can get the panels into the sun you can last a long time.

With a Bambi you might need to duck under the AC as it hangs down from the ceiling. I’m the Caravel it’s a ducted AC so you have the full height to the ceiling. And the bathroom/shower had a slope of the roof so that’s always a tight fit for tall people!

Caroline, sorry for such a delayed response. We went with the Caravel over the Bambi for a few specific reasons. One big one is that Jim can still stand up inside (ducted AC for the win!). We also love the wrap around windows in the back, the back bumper storage, the electric jack, the rock guards, and the better step. Basically, all the improvements are TOTALLY worth the cost. (Really, the windows alone are worth it!)

The biggest problem with the Caravel 16RB for me is that there is no sink in the bathroom. Such a bizarre omission. And they really should have widened the dinette bed so that it's actually usable for adults. An additional 2" width on the RB and 10" on the dinette bed would make both a solid 50" wide, and it would still be a respectable 17' long. Anyway, hope you're still enjoying your Caravel!

We registered for (and received) the Guava travel crib too. I have been pushing to sell our Airstream so we can get something larger like 25-28 feet but now I’m wondering if we can make the 16 foot work after all. Agree that the rear panoramic window of the 16RB is the best feature. It's so bizarre to me that no other Caravel or Bambi has a rear bed with a panoramic window. The rear window makes the most sense since it's not subject to rock damage and is the end that is most likely going to be facing a view, unlike the front panoramic windows on most of those series models.

We're really spoiled with the rear panoramic window after our first Airstream (a 27' Globetrotter). We couldn't imagine having an Airstream without it!

Oh, yes. What an absolutely frustrating eye-opener backing-up the 16RB was on day one. Towing it from the dealer was fairly easy, of course, but trying to back that little thing up into a camp site pad outside of Columbus, OH in the Spring of 2019 was absolutely embarrassing and humiliating. I guess we put on quite a show for the first 20 minutes or so. Stressed, stressed, stressed. We had never towed or backed any trailer up before, and the little single-axel Bambi just wouldn't back up in a straight line even though it was perfectly aligned with the spot!! It would turn on its own almost immediately and attempt to jack-knife. Made absolutely no sense to us. We even took it back out to the empty Alum Creek State Park camp parking lot to practice, test our theories, snap at each other, and shake our heads - a lot. Who knew ... short wheel base, pushing on a hinge, basic physics?! But, guess who stopped at our site to help and teach us (i.e., small slow movements with the wheel, etc.), another long-time Airstream owner! (*Thank you again, Chad. We've never forgotten your patience and good heart to help us on our way to RV Airstream camping that evening.) Two years later, I can usually back it in most anywhere on the first or second try. #lifeskills
