Our full-time Airstream adventures takes us to Titusville, FL where we discover SpaceX launches their Falcon 9 rockets!!! 🚀
Sometimes we travel with specific experiences in mind - tour a city, amazing vegan restaurants, relax on a beach, run a marathon, visit a National Park - but other times we just discover amazing experiences right around the corner! Anyone else ever had an experience like this?
One of our latest was discovering that rockets are launched near Titusville, FL, where we happened to be spending our first weeks in Florida. And so of course we had to go see it happen in person. Or at least we tried to!
Have you ever seen a rocket launch? Or what other amazing experiences did you discover along your travels?

We agree - SpaceX's livestreams offer a better "view" but there is something special about seeing it in person. We were lucky enough to see our first ever launch (Episode 30) this past spring. Thankfully - because it launched at 2:30 AM - we were staying at the Land Yacht Harbor Airstream park in Melbourne and could just walk out our door... Excellent video as always.

A night launch! That must have been incredible. We’ll have to take a look at your episode to see it!

We have seen day and night launches. The night launches are more “dramatic.” The best launch though, was at 6 AM, viewed from Polk City (south of Disney World). The sun was just coming up and lit up the rocket against a still dark sky. In a world with, perhaps, too much virtual reality I think it’s important to have real experiences.

Oh, and if you are headed north from Cape Canaveral to St. Augustine and will continue north from there, check out Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park (City of Jacksonville). The park is on the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Atlantic Beach. The walk from the campground / RV park to the ocean is not more than 1/2 mile, all within the park boundaries. The campground reminds us of stat parks; carved out of a Live Oak and Palm forest. We have seen a few other Airstreams here. Not a lot, of course, but then you never see a lot of them except at an Airstream rally. :-)

Amazing! We’ll add it to our list. Anything that close to the ocean is a winner in our book.

Yep! We’re here right now and LOVING it! Jim has been going for long runs on the beach and we’re both enjoying the sunshine and everything downtown. Do you have any St. Augustine favorites we should try?

San Sebastian Winery. Nice tour and tasting (both free). It’s the sister winery to Lakeridge Winery in Clermont. San Sebastian makes port and sherry, along with a few wines. Lakeridge is the vineyard and main wine production facility. They specialize in products made from Muscadine grapes, which are the only grade native to Florida. Some of their products are aged in bourbon barrels. All of their products are distinctive in their taste, and we really like them, but then I am not a fan a dry reds or Pinot Noir style wines. Probably not to everyone’s taste, but you have to try them in order to find out.

BTW: There are several trollies that run around town. We have yet to do that, but our friends have. They like the Old Town Trolley. You can get a hop on / hop off ticket. 23 different stops,. One of them is the Sand Sebastian Winery. For a little more money, you also get admission to three “attractions.” We are headed back there the week of Feb 17 and plan to do this. Also plan to visit the Fort (National Park Service). Very historic.

@@brucefay5126 Yes! Chelsea did the trolly when her mom and sister came down to visit. And Jim went on a long run all over town, including all around the fort. And we both agree that Mayday ice cream is the greatest place on earth. ;)

What’s the hurry? We never travel 70 MPH with our Airstream or with our converted motorcoach. 62 MPH is a safe, comfortable speed. Just keep to the right so other traffic can get around us and it’s all good. Looks like you managed to get into Jetty Park. The campground there is a nice place to stay if you can get a reservation. Plenty to do between Cocoa Beach (to the south), Port Canaveral, the Cape (USAF Station), and the Kennedy Space Complex Visitor Center (well worth the visit). With clear weather, these rocket launches can be seen from surprisingly far away. We saw two in December from our RV park in Polk City, FL, and two in January from the beach area at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Exactly! We stick with 60mph whenever we're towing to keep us safe (and everyone around us ) and to get the best possible mpg!

Perhaps some fact checking regarding expectations would be in place, lest changing the name to Free But Simple.
