That is one great tutorial. One question: You did not prime the turbo? I guess with the fuel system not vented there was no risk the engine fired straight up, but if it would have, wouldn't that have been the end of the turbo?
@TheKeenMechanic6 күн бұрын
@@chrissein632 Hi. As the whole fuel system was empty there was no risk of the engine starting for at least 30 seconds to a minute. This allows the engine to build plenty of oil pressure in the whole system. Even if it did start after a few seconds it would be idling and there is still some oil left in the turbo. @@bobtheplayer3885 Very hard to bleed this engine to be honest. If you have a vacuum fill tool use it otherwise fill up and drive until it self bleeds itself. When I say that expect the engine to run at 100 to 105 °C. It will take a fair bit of driving for it to bleed itself. Bring a bottle of coolant with you on the drive and top up if needed. I would like something with a good compromise between quality and price. Can you give me some advice?
@TheKeenMechanic21 күн бұрын
@@Tonino-r6p I love Febi and Blueprint parts, as you mentioned they are OE matching which means OE quality at a fraction of the cost. I think more and more people are realising that about Febi. Regarding tools I have such a mixture of tools that I have accquired over the past 15-20 years. I have a few Snap on but I find they are extremely expensive and not worth the investment as other brands are just as good and much cheaper. I have Facom, Britool, Expert (was Britool before-now called Expert, I think Facom own them as well) I have some Bluepoint (made by Snap on but cheaper) Most of my Torque wrenches are Norbar and a few made by Wurth. I have a few sets of Premier and a lot of Bergen tools. Really when looking for tools just make sure they are CR-V or CR-Mo and you will have very little issues. Consider buying impact rated tools as when used with ratchets and even long extensions they are much stronger. Good to see you back again, could you perhaps guide me here? My high mileage N55 has a fair amount of buildup of what seems like sludge on the springs in the engine, I saw this once I removed the Cylinder Head Cover. I carefully removed as much as I could with a vacume. What is your best recommendation to flush out the engine? I'm scared to use engine flush. I was thinking of draining the current oil then refilling it with some cheap 5W-30, run if for 100-200km and then drain that and refill with original BMW oil again. Is that good enough?
@TheKeenMechanic21 күн бұрын
Hi this is the only way I would do it. Just use the cheapest oli and run for a few hundred miles. Drain, change oil filter and do this as many times as you can afford. I also wouldn't use any other additives. It will take a long time to get it cleaned this way. The other solution is to drop the engine and open, clean and febuild again. Nice to see you too buddy.
