I think ZF recommends removing that part the pan covers, the silver piece where the solenoids connect to, and replacing the gaskets and this other piece near the electrical connector as well. Before you start driving, they recommend running it through the gears and then in manual mode shifting up from 1-8 and then checking the levels again and topping up if needed.
@TheKeenMechanic7 ай бұрын
Hi Not sure if you noticed at the end of the procedure I mention to run through the gears and then to check again. Yes, there are a few sleeves on the valvebody to replace which we didn't have at the time and the owner of the car needed the car as soon as possible. We have planned another oil change in the next 20k miles so then if he wants to replace them we can do that of course. Thanks for your comment and pleasure to have you here on the channel

You have pn for these sleeves and gaskets? I did mine as you have in this video. I used ista and it runs you through the process and won't progress until temps are right.

Hi You basically put the sump, torque to spec, fill up with oil with engine off, when it starts dripping, start the engine and keep in P (park) fill up more with engine running between min. 40°c and 50°c max when it within this temp. and starts dripping second time then go through all gears but put hand brake on and don't allow wheels to spin, then do a final check and top up more if needed and when it starts dripping 3rd time close filler plug, tighten and this is you job done🤝🏻🙌

Do be afraid, it will make the box run smoother and will last longer. Febi kit is great value and very high quality (OE Matching) If budget allows buy ZF kit but Febi is excellent kit. Car was remapped after this procedure and is now running about 700nm and 285hp. Nearly 20k miles and runs super smooth🤝🏻

Hi Don't be afraid guys, your transmission will be much smoother especially if never done at this mileage🤝🏻

Hi mate how would you flush the torque converter . As that would mean you would get all the dirty oil out !
@TheKeenMechanic7 ай бұрын
People flush them with a machine which forces the oil out but the manufacturer of these boxes ZF don't approve this method. Other way to get more oil is to remove the valve body, this will get a bit more oil but not the oil from the torque converter. The best and easiest and recommended way is to do an oil and filter change as I have shown and then drive for a while then do it again. There are debates on every method mentioned but this has worked for me for years and is the easiest way🤝🏻

Can i risk it without the software for tempeture? How long should i let it run?
@TheKeenMechanic6 ай бұрын
I think you can risk it. I have done it on my E38 740i twice without the software. Put your hand on the transmission sump and when it starts to feel too warm to touch would be about right. Do this at your own risk of course 😉

@@kjhnsn7296 how did you get on?
@kjhnsn72963 ай бұрын
@@rafh2753 Came out very well. Very straightforward. Key is having the car level, and watching the temperature of the transmission during the second fill. I drained and replaced roughly 4.3 - 4.5 liters of fluid. Oh, I also created a power filler from a $13 garden sprayer. This made the fill a quick and painless process. I did run across one issue during the drain process. The drain plug in the old pan broke when trying to open it. I carefully drilled through it as the oil in the pan would effectively suspend any plastic particles in place. In hindsight a better approach would have been to drive two screws into the drain plug and use them as a fulcrum to twist open the drain plug with a long screwdriver or similar.

Hi Most likely someone has serviced yours at some point. There are a lot of debates on this subject whether you should service an auto box with a lot of miles. I just think that there is no way you will break the gearbox by changing the oil and filter. It will only allow oil to flow better and you will prolong the life in my opinion. Thanks for watching and for always supporting me here🙌
@mrmusic18807 ай бұрын
@@TheKeenMechanic My pleasure, apologies for the late response. Maybe it is better I change the fluid then, as from what I can tell there are no issues with the gearbox, other than a weird helicopter noise at idle, which goes away for about a second when changing from D - R - P and so on. Not sure if that is a big issue or not?
