I'm so so glad I found this video omg. It was difficult to find a replacement deck belt for my 20+ years old lawn tractor and after replacing it the blades would just constantly turn even in the blades stop position. I was about to call it quits when I found out about this trick, I had to do it the other way around as my problem was too much tension on the belt but after tightening this rod to it's max the blades are not engaged, hopefully the strap will soften a bit so I can re-adjust.

It helps to understand the air flow through this vacuum to see that the HEPA filter (2:56) is mounted backwards in this vacuum and why this filter is (and should be) relatively clean. Miele has a vacuum with similar air flow: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXi8qIiVjrN4qLc Air flows through the hose into the back of the unit where it enters the bag. Air then passes out of the bag and through another filter (4:07), which is here called the post-motor filter. It is actually the pre-motor protection filter, because air passes through it BEFORE entering the motor chamber. (I make replacements for this filter by cutting pieces from EconomyPlus Air Conditioner filter material, model AC-302, available inexpensively at Home Depot. This filter material cuts easily with scissors. Measure the old filter to get dimensions.) After air leaves the air blower, it passes out through the HEPA filter on the front. Counting the bag as the first filter, the HEPA filter is the third and final filter, which is why it is relatively clean and why it is an EXHAUST filter. The filter's gasket material should not be visible from the front (2:56). This is a heavy vacuum, but I love ours.

Were Hoover’s Elite series supposed to be the successor to the Convertible uprights, though the Decade 80 and 800 were high end Convertibles?
@graysonsvacsandmowers542616 күн бұрын
Yes actually. The Elite was a more modern design at the time and was more lightweight than the Convertible/Decade.
@JimHawkwind0341116 күн бұрын
@@graysonsvacsandmowers5426 Thanks! I remember my father owning a Hoover RS, one of the last Convertibles (and a low-end model, as it lacked a headlight). He also used a Guardsman at the local library, which was a Decade 800 for industrial use. I was into vacuum cleaners when I was younger; I remember staying at the vacuum cleaner section at the local Zayre/Ames. Did the Elites have the Power Surge feature found on the Concept One or the Decade?

You want the beater bar. It vibrates the carpet and brings the dirt up to vacuum. With just the brushes. All you have is a sweeper.
@graysonsvacsandmowers542617 күн бұрын
But with brushes stiff enough, it can produce sufficient enough agitation to perform just as good, if not better (especially in pet hair pickup) than a beater bar brush roll.

Do these canisters use the same motors as the windtunnel uprights? Sound VERY similar
@graysonsvacsandmowers542619 күн бұрын
No sir, these motors are a different design compared to the uprights, but they do interchange with the other S type canisters (Powermax, Futura, Spectrum, etc.)

Sometimes it's best to tilt the machine back and then adjust the carpet height. Doing that will take all the weight off the front axle so the slider mechanism won't hang up.

I never knew anything about vacuums but when looking up bags for my ol beater I found this video. I have the exact same vacuum. I have been abusing this vaccum for 15 years and before that my buddy abused it and before that his sister abused it at a dorm. Been abused since it was made in early 1994. I just realized what I have and will stop abusing it but the amazing thing is, it's it better shape than the one in the video. Sadly I recently broke the cord hanger when my animals knocked it over. Dogs hate this thing... But other than that, I have never replaced even a belt, just bags. About to replace the light bulb for the first time. It only lasted at least 20 years maybe 30. must have sucked up $150 in change with this thing so far. It just keeps working. Does a great job scraping the pet hair from my rug.
@eviecardinal21 күн бұрын
I can’t believe the belt never snapped. I assume the brush roller is worn to Hell. I’ve restored these elites, and for a plastic made machine, they really do last. Any elite or any older Hoover will out perform any newly Chinese made garbage machines.
@Fooney121 күн бұрын
@@eviecardinal I assume someone changed the belt before me but yea it is crazy. I've smelled it burn a few times when I got it stuck too lol. The roller looks fine to me. It gets pretty hair balled up sometimes and that takes a bit to clean. I've always had hard wood floors so maybe that helps but I've always use this thing on tough jobs like my car. It took my cat and dog knocking this thing over like 40 times for just the cord thing to break. Well, lemme know if you ever want dibbs when I put it on ebay one day. Thanks for the reply.

From my tests with a water gauge, the E2 models had more suction sealed than an E series one speed. I do believe the one speeds however may have had a little bit more airflow. That old PN design I was never a fan of and I think thats one of the biggest issues with performance of a rainbow. The one speeds came in several different versions of motors also, which would affect performance, I think the one I tested had around 55-60" of suction where the E2 has between 70 and 80".

I have been trashpicking for 10 years now, and have found literally DOZENS of vacuum cleaners over the years, most of which I have been able to salvage. Some of them I have made a video about (keywords "Marshall Curtis" and "vacuum cleaners"). They were mostly Bissells, Dirt Devil's, Hoovers, and Eureka's. I found one damaged Riccar SupraLite, one scrappy 1993 vintage Rainbow with the hotel size water bin, and just a few days ago, my first Oreck! Mine looks a lot like yours, except it has the power switch on top of the same type of "helper" handle you have. The floorhead is white instead of gray, the power cord is three pronged, and the nearly identical bag says "ORECK CELOC HYPOALLERGENIC FILTERING SYSYEM." I cannot tell what exact model or when it was made because the "VIN" plate is mostly wiped off. Can anybody out there tell me anything more about my unit? Mine "runs and drives" but it is LOUD! Also, I cannot get the bag to inflate despite not being able to find any holes in it. Upon taking the floorhead off, I find it is surprisingly relatively clean. Nevertheless, I will clean it up as best I can. I ran the motor with the bottom parts off and I notice that the motor arcs and sparks some. Is this normal? All I wish to do is just clean it up and do what little fixing I can, then possibly sell it, or give it away to someone who knows how to work on them.
