Tommy was a good friend of mine for the last 26 years of his life. I learned a lot from him but his genetics gave him the magical ability to play with such precision and speed and no amount of practice can duplicate this for most who try it! R.I.P. (10-8-54 to 9-4-02)

Rande, I saw him when you invited him to CLA in 81 or 82... Great concert! Totally influenced my musical life! Sam Hendrickson (Physics & Chemistry classes)

@@cgprande If you don't mind me asking, what happened to him? Such an incredible talent!

Pastor Tee Dubya, I appreciate you asking this question or anything else you would like to know about him. Tommy was not in great health and had a weak immune system and he contracted pneumonia, and my understanding is that was the official diagnosis of his death.

Tommy was one of the most talented guitar players ever! When he was 16 his family moved to Tennessee in pursuit of his dream. My father (Bruce Osbon) was hired as his guitar teacher. At the time Tommy was only 15 or 16. My father only had Tommy as a student for a couple of years and then they simply became picking buddies. As good as my father was, as Tommy got older my dad wouldn’t even pick up a guitar in his presence, content to just listen to him pick. When he released this song, as it happened, Chet released his version at the same time. Guess which one got air play? As enamored as Chet was of Tommy, I think there was a tad bit of jealousy as well. He was taken from us too soon and never reached the heights he absolutely should have!

Wow! I've heard many interpretations of this song, but this may be the best version ever. What an amazing musician. It seems downright criminal that I haven't heard of him before.

I own a record store in Indianapolis, and I am trying to track down information on Tommy's discography. I am aware of his CD release titled "Tide Pool", but apparently he had at least one other CD release titled "Country" that I haven't been able to locate. I am trying to find a copy of that CD as well as any others that folks are aware of. I'd like to get all of his releases on vinyl, cassette (if any) and CD put together in a definitive discography that could be listed online at Discogs, Wikipedia and other places. I agree that we need to keep Tommy's music alive. He was an amazing talent. Please let me know if you can help with this effort. Thank you in advance.

Chet produced a CD in his studio of Tommy titled, "Chet Presents...Tommy Jones." It is a fabulous recording featuring Tommy playing exceptionally fast harmonic melodies.

Here mr Jones could not be more than 25 . So that was probably at the end of 70 s. 77, 78 or maybe 79 .
