Around 563 ft.lbs of energy out of a 2" barrel, has got to be pretty brutal.

I've seen a 6-inch GP100 firing these Buffalo Bore loads and achieving 1,000 ft-lb.

two different gun magazines tested two different Taurus 605 defenders ,357mag 3in barrels with the buffalo bore 357mag 180gr hard cast at 1300 fps. I have two defender revolvers a2 in and 3in I reload for and love them. papa wishing you well 😊
@KaiTakApproach2 ай бұрын
Can you say what magazines? I literally just ordered the same exact ammo for the same exact gun. I get a lot of interest from black bear while fly fishing, and my top spot is only a couple miles from where there was a fatal attack. We are stuck with concealed carry where I live. I would love to read those articles.
@johnnymccann56072 ай бұрын
@KaiTakApproach honestly I don't remember but I look and see I can find them. as a reloader of 45years experience and knowledge of many, many calibers and firearms I think I can reproduce it or very close to it. I got to order the bullets to reload it . I'll probably cut the cost of the factory by half price.. but this load would be self defense 0nly and and limit practice only. a steady diat of it would retire even smith and wesson j frames . papa wishing you well

it's papa again. I didn't find the magazines but some great information on two videos about the buffalo bore heavy 357mag 180gr gc-lfn. The video from discreet defense or discreet defense research. Kimber 2 in revolver. 357mag heavy buffalo bore. 180gr 1215 fps , 590 ft/ lb energy. 1187 fps, 563 ft/lb energy. 1128 fps ,509 , ft/lb energy . he thought the last shot wasn't right. Underwood 180gr fn. 1043 fps , 435 ft/lb. 1060 fps, 449, ft/ lb energy . 1081 fps , 467, ft/lb energy. them on tools and targets he tested buffalo bore heavy 357mag 158gr jhp with smith and wesson j frame 357 3in barrel. 1375 fps ,1330 fps , 1368 fps , 1384 fps ,1378 fps .with a average of 1357fps and 686 ft/lb energy power. wow, 3in barrel. hope this information helps. papa from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC wishing you well

I -often- usually carry either a .38 Special +P (S&W Model 642) or .357 Magnum (S&W Model 19, 2-1/2") revolver. In both of them I use Buffalo Bore .38 Special +P 158 gr. Lead SWC-HP. Excellent performance in both revolvers. The 180 gr. hard cast lead load is not intended snub nosed revolvers for close range self defense, it is a hunting load for longer barreled revolvers or carbines. Loading three rounds would be no different than loading 6 and firing three. If it doesn't hang up on the last three shots when you load 6, that isn't the problem. Most likely the cases are "setting back" in recoil and dragging on the recoil shield of the revolver. Common with heavy loads in any revolver.

Out of a 2” barrel If you’re probably better off launching 125gr soft points for deep penetration, or 125gr gold dot hp for self defense. The lighter loads get better velocity from short barrels.

Thanks for making this video. I have a J-frame clone 605 Defender 3" and got this ammo due to black bear taking interest in my fly fishing. I fish where there was a black bear fatality.

I carry the buffalo bore in my K6s 4” barrel, while fishing in western Wyoming. They do get your attention. I bounce back and forth .357 and a 10mm. It depends on where I’m going, if someone is going with me and the weather.
@coskier19694 ай бұрын
I do the same but like the K6s because it is light and easy to carry and with the buffalo bore 180 outdoors hard cast I feel perfectly armed. It is a nice handful but easy enough to shoot. I also have a S&W 329 in 44 mag at 25 oz with 300 gr. Nice handful. Here in Idaho

@jacobackley5024 ай бұрын
Not surprising, those things are way overloaded. I recently had a long conversation with a guy who was absolutely convinced they were safe to be used as the standard for 357. I couldn’t believe anyone would think that about those loads
@cameronnorton58984 ай бұрын
That's user error, you should know better than to put crazy hot ammo in a classic smith K frame.
@rodneyalaking82414 ай бұрын
The bullets in the cylinder jump the crimp due to excessive recoil. Then the cylinder is hard to turn.

Your audio is not working to well, 357 is my go to, however, the powder used in magnum ammo, is a slow burning ball powder, and when you put that in a 2" bbl, It just seems a waste of powder, because it does not have time to ignite all of the charge.👍🇺🇸
@exothermal.sprocket4 ай бұрын
Very true. However, I'm not sure of a fast burning powder being loaded in .357magnum for "short barrel purposes" that would also include the ridiculous 180gr or even 200gr bullet. Pressure spikes would be an issue, not sure the resulting velocities would be all that much better overall. Would take a good amount of testing to find out.

Absolutly no point in test bb 180 load in 2" revolver.
@Paladin18732 ай бұрын
I use 180 grain HSM bear loads in a 4" S&W Model 19. They only clock 1000 fps but aren't too hot to handle. Out of a 16" carbine they average 1400 fps. I don't care for 2" magnums because they produce more recoil than useful velocity.
@exothermal.sprocket4 ай бұрын
I'd recommend loading only 1 into the cylinder at a time, when firing those 180gr beast rounds, to avoid pulling bullets from recoil in these lightweight revolvers. The theory about cylinder rotation with lead weight (example of 3 rounds on one side) wouldn't seem to play out. Every DA revolver will go through this process after firing 3 shots from a full cylinder, as the cylinder gets lighter and lighter on the side rotating away from the barrel while firing.

Jesus why would you use a snub nose to test Buffalo Bore yikes man you need a minimum of 4 inches of barrel to get the basic maximum velocity out of those bad boys

Crimp jump can be a problem in smaller guns

You are wasting your time shooting the Buffalo Bore180 outof a small frame2 inchbarrel . It is meant for increasing the power of a medium to medium large frame 357 revolver t 41 magnum ballistics , if you don’t have a larger caliber revolver. The 180 fn cast BuffaloBore, Chrony at almost 1400 fps out ofa4 inch barrel

A myth that I intend to dispel right here, is that 357 Mag. loads need a 4-inch to 6-inch barrel to be any faster than 38 SPL+P loads of the same bullet weight. What a crock! This is a myth I've heard dozens or perhaps hundreds of times, but I've heard it so many times, I now block it out and get out of that conversation (walk/run away) before I get insulting to the guy repeating that rumor as I am fed up with folks that repeat stuff they have heard, as if it is truth, but they really have no idea. Any person with a chronograph, that goes to the trouble to test velocities, knows how untrue that myth is, yet folks just keep repeating it, because they heard someone tell that to them, so it must be true?!?!?! Our poor shooting industry operates on more myth than truth, so I aim to chip away at the BS and replace it with truth where I can. Look at the below velocities out of 2.5 and 3-inch barrels and tell me with a straight face that any 38 SPL+P loads could achieve such velocities with a 180 gr. bullet! These are real world velocities taken from real-world over-the- counter firearms. I also have some two-inch revolvers chambered in 357 mag., but they are scandium cylindered and I will not fire a load that generates this type of recoil from a 12 OZ revolver, as all sorts of problems can arise. I use only our "Tactical" 357 loads or 38 SPL loads in revolvers with scandium cylinders. ? 1,258 fps -- S&W model 66-4, 2.5-inch ? 1,351 fps -- S&W model 65-5, 3-inch ? 1,356 fps -- S&W Mt. Gun, 4-inch ? 1,501 fps -- Ruger GP 100, 6-inch ? 1,840 fps -- Marlin 1894, 18-inch

Not a fan of Buffalo Bore. I'm in Alaska. I use a lot of hard cast 357Mag, 44Mag, 45-70, 10mm and 460 Roland. I discovered they used undersized bullets in their 460 Roland load. 4 out of 5 bullets would tumble at 15 yds, and key hole. I emailed the owner, Tim, because I thought he would want to know. Maybe someone messed up loading the machine... He didn't care. He responded by saying "well, we sell plenty of the stuff". I got rid of all my BB. I've been extremely happy with Underwood ammo.

If you actually take the time to IDK look at Buffalo Bores website you can easily see that the Heavy Outdoorsman loading is for larger heavier weight revolvers like a Ruger GP100. The original 357 Magnum load full power was 158 grains at 1500 fps. It was at one time the most powerful revolver on earth. Kinda silly now considering that 460XVR and 500 are a thing. Regardless that's WAY too much recoil, muzzle flip , flash, noise and unburned powder out of THIS revolver when you can get 9mm loads that will equal your results here. I wouldn't go with any more than a decent 125 grain JHP load in this revolver and even that will not be pleasant, if you just HAVE TO HAVE magnum loads ...A Buffalo Bore 38 Special "FBI type" load would go in this for me because its just too tiny , and use of magnums a forced issue if thats all I had. So it would be on a salad diet permanently😂
