To start you “rode several hundred miles on old logging roads”??? I think you misspoke. lol
@TightLoops9 күн бұрын
Nope, if I remember correctly it was somewhere between 225 and 275 miles of logging roads. Took about 7 hours driving 45-55 miles an hour on the dirt. You should look into the North Maine Woods. Expansive network of logging roads, open to the public for a fee!

You two made a calculated risk and then took a chance. It takes courage to do it, bravery to execute it, governed by a fair modicum of shear freaking common sense to recognize when it's being pushed "a bridge too far." Epic experience requires will, determination, and perseverance to succeed or recover from failure. Both of you had the wisdom to back down, regroup and recalculate the risk, not a simple thing. The result is this documentary. I've followed this channel for awhile. Exquisite cinematography, narration and background history. The two of you are really enjoying life. It's a one way trip. Both of you are making the most of it. Can't get finer wine than that.

It takes special people with so much passion, who understand the importance of a native trout , it's definitely not easy and definitely means a difficult journey with hardships. I totally understand the desire and drive to go after a very special fish . I live in an area that claims the home of the Paiute trout, which is a very difficult place to reach. I, too, eventually found my unicorn. To my surprise, some of these fish species are quite larger than I expected , a beautiful fish that looks so Primitive.

kindred spirits :) The Paiute is high on our list. One day soon I hope!
@jeromedamian57403 ай бұрын
@TightLoops it's a very unique species. Very primitive looking almost no scale. Its fins are almost like fingers. Historically, it was called the moon trout. I've noticed that they get a pretty good size depending on your location. They are highly protected. Law enforcement is heavy.

There’s lots of info about it. You can also try searching “gulf of California” instead of sea of Cortez. I don’t remember the exact source I used in my research. But a quick google search turns up plenty. Here’s one! uapress.arizona.edu/book/the-gulf-of-california

Circling back around to where you both began. Fresh and inspiring as ever. Having spent my only 9-5 work experience as an air cooled Vdub mechanic and owning a good few, I genuinely empathize. The brand is hearty but it demands one’s premier devotion. The air cooled German engineering not with standing, you have rekindled a connection to both of our pasts fly fishing. It’s time to reclaim my father’s extensive kit and start tying and traveling to angle again. Thank you. Until our paths cross again…

The easy way is rarely the right way. That’s what I tell my kids. I’m not sure if I heard it somewhere. It’s interesting how this new age of fly fishing community has roots in skateboarding as I did. Mostly snowboarding, I reignited my connection of being outside through fly fishing. It’s great.

@TightLoops4 ай бұрын
gaaaah I know I'm sorry! I include music credits in almost every single video weve ever made, but we had an insane time crunch to get this video out, and even had to push the premiere by a week to get it all done. Getting the music credits together was one of the things that got cut for time reason. I can tell you that many of the bangers in here are by a guy named Andrew Judah! Look him up!

Great quality of films, but I can't help but feel like you hold quite a grudge against our ancestors. They really came into this land clueless and very desperate. They made millions of mistakes, but we can't be angry at them. We share nothing of a life they endured. We are slowly trying to repair their mistakes in trade for bringing us to such a beautiful place. The Brook trout is quite easily the most amazing fish I've had an honor to fish and to take care of in our local area, but I don't hold a grudge on our past mistakes of their state. I push forward best I can and give time and effort to protect them going forward.

You guys choose to live in butte? Rough town. Why not Bozeman or Missoula?
@TightLoops4 ай бұрын
We actually don’t live anywhere. We live in our vehicle and have for the last 5 years. My folks live in Butte, and our family is 5 generations deep there. But to be honest, Butte ain’t so rough these days (compared to its old reputation). We love visiting. But if you’re asking hypothetically why someone would choose Butte over Bozeman or Missoula, I’d say it would come down to money. We couldnt afford either of those towns even if we wanted to. Both cool places, but the cost of living is out of control these days.

Thanks Nick! Glad you liked it. Tucson has become like a second home for us. The Sonoran desert is a magical place, full of mystery and wildness, even if it is shrinking. This is one of our favorite videos from this series, but it doesn’t get much love from our fishing audience, since it’s…you know, about cactuses and stuff lol.

Love the documentary and am interested why you say you are the first person ever stepping on some part of the area ?
@TightLoops4 ай бұрын
Thanks! The area is incredibly remote. We have very little record of contemporary (post colonization) humans spending much time there. As far as indigenous people, surely some must have explored the area, but we don't have any precise evidence of that. This isn't an area along any major migration routes, or of any cultural significance etc. So theres a chance that even prehistoric people may have never visited this spot, or if they did, perhaps only once or twice. Anyway, its a little bit of poetic license on my part, but the idea being that so few people have ever set foot where we were, theres a pretty good chance that no human foot as stepped in exactly the place that we did. It doesn't mean no people had ever been in the area near it, but that theres been so few footsteps, chances are that every step you take is the first time any modern human as stood in that exact spot, and seen, felt, smelled those exact things etc. Pretty cool feeling!
