I really like how low quality the audio is, it’s honestly more immersive this way. The way that the recorder didn’t properly pick up the synth is actually kinda scary!

I was at this gig and what a sh itshow it was. Just a shame there’s not a full recording. Band sounded great. They’d played High Wycombe before, but skinheads were targeting Ants gigs. About 30 skins showed up late (and drunk) and started booing and assaulting random punters. Then the skins started chanting “sieg heil” and it all kicked off. The band had had enough. Adam was really brave. Had the mic the whole time and told the skins to “F off out of it” and to “go and watch Tiswas” (which got a laugh). He said another skinhead “looked like the bald geezer from Benny Hill” (which got another laugh). More Nazi chants were followed by the worst mass brawl I’ve ever seen. Kevin Mooney leathered one skin and got dragged into the melee. It was mental. Furniture was smashed and thrown. The punks turned into soldier Ants and turned on the Skins. Skins got a kicking that night. Blood and beer all over the floor. The fuzz arrived. Bedlam. High Wycombe town council had an emergency meeting the next day and banned all punk bands from playing there.

"Turn the lights off!" That was Ian who said that. Too late. All it would take was a few seconds. He had a fit and fell into the drums. Just an hour or so later, they drove to play at The Moonlight Club, and Ian had ANOTHER fit after just five numbers. Peter Hook later said they should've just canceled some of these last few gigs, but they might have been financially and professionally penalized for doing so. They did what they had to.

Probably the best performance of the song. Ian sounds absolutely miraculous, here.

Bernard played Ian's Vox Phantom VI Special in New Order and, years later, gave it to Ian's daughter. Then it was sold at auction for a large sum. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5DKmI2Kgs5jeNU

I met a girl recently who was at this concert but she turned up late. She was gutted that she missed the strippers at the beginning of the Stranglers set but was indifferent to having missed Joy Division.
