Hearing about the small art community niche back when deviantart was the only platform was very nice to hear about, thank you for talking about it. I feel like not enough people talk about old times like that where you were just free to make your art, grow a small community, make friends, and the only worry was just art theft and scams. I miss those old times and finding out that now artists are just used as free real estate is so frustrating especially when deviantart has now changed along with other apps like twitter and instagram. Where at one time, deviantart was THE place for artists, has now back stabbed everyone that did feel safe, looked up to the website (was on there for 11+ years), and it feels like artists have to hide in a corner and live in fear and it shouldn't have to be like that but now it is. I've been on Cara for almost a week now and I hope it grows beyond deviantart, instagram and twitter.

The number one reason people stay in abusive relationships is "better the devil you know." They'd rather experience the known discomfort of the familiar that they can plan around and manage than risk worse unknown discomfort for the promise of relief from present discomfort. Basically, most artists - most people - aren't willing to starve for the sake of their principles, which what's the point of having principles at that point if you just abandon them when things start to get a little tough?

I'm a very small artist on IG.. It's really saddening that Meta is making IG unusable for artists (and basically effing them over for data and stuff). I didn't know that Meta is making big decisions lately either since I now rarely jump on IG and had refrained myself from posting my art and drawings on there. I think I'll be moving to Cara for now, I'm hoping Cara can be the new app for artists and stay that way, yknow

I understand the complaints but I believe people are overreacting. This new world tech is crazy and sucks in some ways but going to this new platform probably won’t hurt Meta as much as the individual artists. Building a brand requires that we share our work in every way possible without fear and worry. If people or even Ai bots can see it they can steal it. I worry more about artists hiding their work away in fear and because of that Ai generative art will have even more visibility on the market.

Yeah the AI has to get real art from somewhere. It cant create anything. Only re-order existing data in a way it thinks you want it ordered. Its all stolen public data in the language models too. But when artists stop sharing online and writters stop writting online. It will keep recycling its own creations and get a lot of data degradation

Adding on, cara is a general social media app. people keep promoting it as just for artists. this is like, disaster for any freelance artists who make money on social media. I draw book covers for authors, they are not on cara. Big ass chunk of my audience gone.

People need to get with the program on this one or end up getting left in the dust. This will take over jobs. Artists will not be required anymore. Period. If you think otherwise, you are incredibly naive. Last while I've used AI with ControlNets alone to create textures for 3D models I've made, and they come out absolutely great. And that's now, already. Today. In another year or two, most of it will be automated. Including 3D model generation. Although, that one I do believe will take longer to train for. But it's inevitable.

I probably won't say anything new, everyone has been thinking about it, I'm sure. The nasty thing about AI art is... is does exactly what artists do. It's a perfect artist. They say you shouldn't draw from your head, you first need to build up a library. Always use references. See what other artists did and try to copy it, learn on it. And that's 3\3 what AI does. Only faster. So... It's hard to prove they can't do that. The only "unfair" thing about it is it's a million times faster. So if an artist came and was able to create art in different styles very fast, would he also be an unfair competition to us all? Would we try to ban him because he replaces too many? How can we tell what's fair? Just egoistic way, what hurts us is bad and shouldn't exist? Don't get me wrong, I hate the AI, I'd hate it even if everyone else loved it. I hated computer graphics back in 00s. That was also a faster way of doing things that took real artists' job. And I know everyone will accept AI eventually. All except me. I know what I like and dislike. I don't like when something amazing like classic Disney animation is replaced with vector "fast-food". Ok, to be fair, they did a good job developing 3D and vector animation, it has a soul now. Or maybe I got so blind I accept it without it, who knows. Anyway, what I mean is I have no idea how would we fight AI. Because if it was human it would do nothing wrong. It would do exactly what all guides tell. See, absorb, reimagine and create you own-ish, based on the best created by others. Using reference is a base for any artist. We intake it, recombine and say it's now ours. Much as I'd love to create from nothing. So... things are complicated. What should we do? Not upload? Not allow inspiration from our pieces? Then would be allow other people to be inspired and learn from our work?

It's simple, in your logic, a parrot 'll be a great orator just because it can mimic human language. But apparently it's not. The same goes for human learn from reference image and AI steal data, those two are not the same progress.
@RedGallardo
@RedGallardo 20 сағат бұрын
@@huymaivan8671 Parrot is a low quality orator. Artists base their learning process on stealing others' work, taking it all into their mind and recombining it. If pieces of your artwork are taken, you can prove it. But if your style is mimicked, you can't do a thing. People do the same. Most people use what they see and masters recognize their own lines in their work. Is Miyazaki's style allowed to mimic? Is Don Bluth's style allowed to mimic? Stealing means something was taken as it is. Learning means it was changed. So pick what you're talking about exactly. Plagiarism? I despise it, it's awful, never do that. Learning? That happens every day, every second all around planet. AI will evolve and learn to mix pictures to make them non-recognizable. Should it not be popularized before that? Yes, I think it shouldn't give services before it's refined. But they will continue because using it is necessary for the process of development. I don't like it, I'm on your side in it. I just don't know what CAN we do. Forbid learning?

@@RedGallardo there're no such thing as "parrot is low quality orator" . Orator is orator. parrot is parrot, there's no inbetween. How low a human can be to the point considering a parrot is an orator in their dictionary? The key difference between a parrot and an orator is the understanding of word and how to use it. The same goes for AI steal data and human using refrence, The understand of why it red color need to be there, and why blue color need to be here for example, The AI just put the blue there because the style it mimic say so. while the artist with his life experience know exactly why it must be blue there.
@RedGallardo
@RedGallardo 18 сағат бұрын
@@huymaivan8671 Yes, there is now an inbetween. It's AI. It's not as dumb as a parrot, it's way more fast and complex, with vast memory and capabilities. Not alive yet, not sure if it's good or bad. If it was alive, we'd have to accept it as another mind, same as ours, only better. Young but better. It may not use whole fragments of pictures, it may learn, use basic forms: sphere, cube, cone. Same as human. Yes, I know what you mean. But the argument "it doesn't understand but still makes something pleasant" is flimsy. We don't need it to understand. And, again, I emphasize that I do not like AI, I do not support AI. I'm conservative and I want people to preserve traditional art. I use pencil, no tablet. But AI is here and the question is what are we going to do about it. And what can we possibly do. You're right, it's not like human mind, it's not alive and with rich imagination. But we can only look at is subjectively. Cover a human and an AI with a box and try to see them as abstract entities with properties. They learn. They both need input, they don't create from 0. They start being young and silly and grow up. They have a right to use reference. It doesn't matter what's going on in their minds. If they understand color theory or not. We only see the result. The box spits out sheets of paper with drawings and we analyze if it's good or bad. If it's plagiarized or mimicked or masterfully combined from basics. That's all that can matter to us. We can't get inside another human's mind to know how they think. If they steal or understand. If you blame AI for being dumb, you'll have to blame 90% of other artists and designers. Which I have no problem with, I dislike lazy artists as much as you dislike AI. So... Yes, it's an inbetween. It's a parrot who can simulate a conversation. Literally all them Siri, Kuki, Alice etc. are such parrots. Who are more than parrots. Who answer questions and find info. They don't understand, don't feel, but they talk to us just the same as we're talking right now. You don't know if I'm AI or not. Because they're already good enough to simulate response at a high level. So to you there will be no difference. You're alive, you get real emotions, you get mad at me, annoyed, you give me arguments and listen to me. There's no difference to you if I'm alive or not. If bots can do that... why would they need to understand? No-no, I don't mean they can replace humans at everything. But talking about art, any customer wants to get a result, not know the artist had feelings and understanding. They need quality product. AI gives it to them. I repeat, I don't like it either, but what can we do? No one stopped Photoshop from replacing traditional media. No one will stop AI from replacing human toil.

Ytrs are actually sharing wrong info about that ai opt out thing. Theres no opt out. EU [cuz they got laws] has ability but theres hoops. 1. They already scraped it so.... oh well. 2. The rest of the world never had a change to say no. With that the how to ytrs show shows clearly that the opt out is only if you can "prove" there was a detriment to you such as the ai using copywrited work [to create something]. How would you ever know???? The US & West had no idea they were doing this, and frankly should be illegal if its content not publicly shared. Theres privacy protections [me only, friends, select people] where our data was to be safe. They seem to have not cared and stole it all. Didnt even give a change to remove people/personal photos or content [since videos also were stolen and text you posted]. This needs to go to court and Meta needs to be sued and owe ever user 200k. Not the lawyers, the users. And they need to delete all data and backup data scraped into that ai [w govt oversight that they did it]. And then by law allow users to go into every post, photo and video to (using edit hamburger) mark it ( do not allow for ai training) ... as well as for all future posts that [no ai] needs to be there to protect users. Lots of folk wont care, large numbers do. And it needs to be opt in. Note. Cara is only useful for artist community. It isnt helpful for social media marketing & sales of art. So Cara is fine for those who want constructive feedback (or those who are like a 5 yr old who runs to show strangers at the door "all the things" they have).

I'm conflicted to create Cara because I have a feeling it will be just another of those new platforms that won't stay that long because of Meta's issues like how Mastodon, Threads, etc. was created because of the X(Twitter) issue but a lot of people still uses it, and Mastodon and the rest are forgotten. Not sure how well that will work but I'm so tired of constantly having to migrate from platform to platform every time one of them sells out. I see the patterns. A new platform pops up, everyone migrates or "escapes" to it, and then once it's established and people are enjoying it for a while, they sell out to the Big companies, compromising the very values they claimed to uphold. This is nothing new to me. I'm very skeptical these days. Please forgive my skepticism.
