Hi Dr Claire - a new subscriber here from Australia! I'm going through lots of changes in my life including perimenopause and am learning lots about benefits of whole foods in this overly processed world we live in. Just wondering if you eat snacks throughout the day and if so what kind of snacks? I'm finding between meals I'm constantly craving snacks. Not sure if this is part of the initial journey of starting on whole foods or if I should eat larger portions. Any ideas would be appreciated 😊
@drclairelockridgend13 сағат бұрын
Hi, welcome we are so excited to have you here! I am also so happy to hear that you are starting to eat more whole foods! So I don't really snack. I try to make my meals as satiating as possible; that way, I don't have to worry about eating between meals. With that being said, I definitely used to snack a lot more. Sometimes, when you start eating more whole foods, you naturally eat fewer calories (taking out a lot of processed stuff will do that), so at the start, you can get hungry quicker if you are not careful. I would recommend making snacks that are basically "mini meals", making sure you have protein and fibre in the snacks (veggies and hummus, hard-boiled egg and avocado). Those would be some good snacks, but in the meantime, I would focus on bumping up your main meals too. Make sure every meal has lots of protein, fat, and fibre, because that keeps you satiated throughout the day! Hope that helps 💚

Your videos have been helping me so much with making balanced and nutritious meals. How do you know how much you should be eating? Social media has really been making it difficult to know what is "normal" and "healthy", do you have any advice? I've been doing a course as well on nutrition to try and help, it's easy to become obsessive and overwhelmed, so if you have advice that would be amazing!
@drclairelockridgendКүн бұрын
I feel this!! So much knowledge/access to information can actually do more harm than good when it comes to food! This is definitely something that I struggle with. After you study nutrition for so long, you can start to see food as numbers (both when it comes to macro and micronutrients). When it comes to knowing how much to eat, I think it's really important to listen to your body (something social media can teach us!). I listen to hunger cues and how I feel day to day. I notice that there are times when I have lower energy, and it is because I have been underfuling! It's also important to remember that food is meant to be enjoyed. While it is a tool to nourish our body, it is important to remember that food also plays other roles in our lives! Hope that helps 💚
@mijhuan19Күн бұрын
@drclairelockridgend thank you so much for answering! It does help and it's a good reminder, it is easy to het caught up in the numbers and statistics and to forget to actually enjoy the food and the culture that comes with it. It also helps knowing that even people with the knowledge still struggles, makes you feel less hopeless hehe. Have a awesome day! And looking forward to your next video 🌼

So. I drink a grain based hot drink with dandelion and other grains. Another hot driyng is Twig Tea. Its high in calcium. Question. I started supplementing my hot beverage with Collagen Protein. Its an easy way for me to get extra Protein. Any thoughts about Collagen as a protein source? Thanks Rick
@drclairelockridgendКүн бұрын
Hi Rick! That tea sounds amazing! I think that collagen is a great thing to include in the diet its high in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline that complement the amino acids in other protein sources nicely. Its just important to remember that it is not a complete protein, so I always say to have it with other protein sources though the day. For that same reason I don't really count it as a main protein source but a great thing to add to the diet! Hope that helps 💚

Hey Kate, I am sorry to hear about the digestive issues, I know that they can be very annoying to experience! When it comes to digestion there is so much going on. If you have access to it I would say that maybe working 1:1 with someone may be best! I love probiotics, but they are not the only (or always indicted) treatment for digestive issues. Sometimes antimicrobials, more gastric acid support, digestive enzymes etc... are needed! When it comes to probiotics, I always reached losing for ones that are 3rd party tested (I like Genestra and NFH) Hope that helps 💚

@drclairelockridgend TY for your speedy response. I just moved states and house from NY to Texas. I am looking for a good ND, which is not easy here. I mostly pass when it comes to Primary Care Physician advice and have for 40 years. I am English, ND, conventional medicine, and Accupuncture go hand in hand with many of our PCP. Accupuncture is often combined into the visit. It is definitely getting better in the 25 years I have lived in the USA, but I still feel there's a long way to go. Be blessed in all you do. Girl you must be my little sister because we have the same goals! Thank you for showing the oil pulling. I have heard you should do it and I have heard you should not but I am becoming more and more convinced that a lot of the things that are best for us are from the earth! Can you share more information regarding the high amount of sugar in fruit? I thought natural fruit was better. I too have scaled back on fruits. I have been eating peaches and blueberries because I think they are lower in sugar. I was eating apples and did not know they have 28g of sugar in each one. Yikes!
@drclairelockridgend4 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for the comment!💚 So glad that you like the video! So normally I don't restrict fruits (I was just doing it while I was on the candida cleanse). I really tell patients don't worry about the sugar in fruit for general health! The natural sugars in fruit come with fiber, water and so many vitamins/ minerals! Like any carb source I don't eat fruit on its own (always with protein and fat), but other than that I love fruit! If you are looking for lower sugar fruit option berries will always be the best option! Hope that helps 💚

Any autoimmune condition is very closely linked to digestive health, so I always say addressing digestive function will be very important! If you have access to it, I would recommend working 1:1 with a practitioner! Always inspiring!! Another person mentioned glutathione supplements. I got asthma from a supplement I tried. How can one increase glutathione without supplementation or are there different forms, one with less side effects?
@drclairelockridgend7 күн бұрын
Yes, So both glutathione and NAC supplementation can trigger asthma (generally in people with pre-existing asthma). But there are lots of ways to support glutathione production naturally! Sulfur-containing foods (garlic, onions, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts) can help boost glutathione, foods high in vitamin C (fruits and veggies) can also help! Exercise, lowering stress and high quality sleep can also help support glutathione! And then limiting things that we know deplete glutathione (like stress, alcohol, chemical pollutants, ultra processed foods, etc...) Hope that helps 💚

Oof, glad it's not just me the digestive stuff just sneaks up on, despite best efforts! Currently dealing with full on diverticulitis flare, day two, ignored the signals thinking they were due to the magnesium I'm taking, until it became a full-on flare, lol! (Thinking magnesium may actually triggered it, who knows.) Giving the system a rest and treating with protocol ND prescribed many years ago when I first started dealing with this.
