1971 cruise rather than 72-73 period?

Very pleased to see this video. Especially since I remembered the names but not the faces 50 years later. I checked in as an Airman apprentice with VA174 and after Fam training checked into VA86 just after the cruise in ‘73. Worked as plane captain AJ410 later AF/TS during the America and Nimitz cruises. As Plankonwer on Nimitz I brought the first flyable fixed wing aircraft aboard by crane.. Loved/hated 86 but was a great foundation for a 50+ year aviation career AMS2 Steve Anderson FAA Master Mechanic

I was a ten year-old kid in 1973, and one of the first plastic models I built was a B-58 Hustler

Pretty good video. Nice condition of the instruments. Actually TOW is tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided. Trigger on the pilot's cyclic is for the cannon. The mirror was so the pilots could look at each other. You couldn't see behind the aircraft with it. The Cav used the cobras in Desert Storm. The gunner had the same flight instruments, but not all the navigational instruments. F was the final model of the army cobra.

Oh but all these young airplane fans knew about the Hustler! It was 4 jet engines with a small airplane bolted to em' and was absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for your service sir

I can hear it in your voice that you Mr Jim are having an amazing day !! If I had the chance to squeeze my butt between the frame and I wasn’t to heavy for the seat in the OV- Man I would be having memories of the Mohawk flights I’d had. Weee Hoooo 🤩

I made my 2nd westpac, 1971 with VAQ -132 EKAB A-3's on the USS America. I worked nites 7 to 7. I saw in this video that the EKA A-6's were being used but couldn't make out what 'VAQ" squadron it was. The America being a east coast based carrier was more laid back and was 1 foot longer than the "E" boat (Show Boat) lol. We shared our ready room with an A-7 Squadron but I can't remember which squadron they were. My first Westpac was on the 'USS Enterprise 1969 again with VAQ-132. Thank you for your video.

My Uncle talked about the plane am the time. He had a job at the Lewis Research center and was in charge of all the planes in the big hangar: OV-10, Leer jet, the DC-9, and the Twin Otter. I think he rode on the vomit comet once, as well. When I got to see the planes in the hangar.I saw this plane and I thought it was so cool looking. I had never seen anything like it and I had no idea its wonderful history.

Great testimony from Avionics Master Chief Larry Mullen and three Vietnam combat Aviators (Art, Dave, and Roy)! The A-7 was a true light attack workhorse on US Navy carriers from 1967 -1991. The Navy A-7C/E (USAF A-7D) was the first military tactical aircraft with a Head Up Display (HUD) and a digital solution weapon system controlled by the AN/ASN-91 NAV WEPS Delivery Computer with OFP software developed by IBM, Vought/LTV and Navy China Lake). Many vital mission functions were put under control software over 50 years ago. Aviators and maintainers loved the A-7 Corsair II. It was indeed ahead of its time.

It was such an inspiring visit we had with VA-86 and all the guests that visited us here at the Fort Worth Aviation Museum. We can't thank them enough for sharing their experiences and stories with us. Such dedications ... of these crew ... Officers and Enlisted men ... that came together because of a common respect and the ordeals they endured to share with us. We were happy they chose us to have their VA-86 Reunion for the day. They also visited our archives of materials, equipment, memorabilia, technical publications, which is available as well to all open quests upon request. Thanks again for sharing your stories and times with us. Salute....

I’ve been following this project since the start. Absolutely amazing job you guys have done. If I’m ever in Texas (a long way from rainy England where I live) I will definitely come along and see this thing in the flesh. I think if you print off close up photos of all the missing gauges with their part numbers labeled then in a quick video you can go through each one and it might help you find some of them? Anyway great work!

For anyone looking for a Swift to turn into a super Swift, find a GC-1B. The -A had .025" fuselage skins, whereas the -B had .032 skins. The thinner skins are not as strong and easier to dent. That camera is a piece of junk. Ever heard of a "crusher"?

The Arup s-4? I saw it in texas when I was 9 years old. It was in a new addition round conderblock room with big set of windows facing a runway and had electric curtains. Man said he bought it from i think indiana? It had a cracked spar they scabbed the spar , put the plane back into flying condition he hired a pilot to fly it to runway right outside and they put it in the round room then put the windows in.

You don’t have your tailwheel endorsement yet? Oh boy.. you really should buy a more common tailwheel plane to build 50 to 100 hours tailwheel time.. the Swift is too valuable and rare to “learn” on. Please please don’t wreck it!

Well now, one look at the Rockwell OV-10 Bronco and you can see why Burt Rutan stole the idea for the Adam A500. Unfortunately, Rutan's version put the suck in success and Adam Aircraft had to cease production. The "choice" between "full fuel" or "a pilot" didn't sell well.
@Chilly_Billy
@Chilly_Billy 3 ай бұрын
Ryan "stole" the Bronco's design? I guess you've never heard of other pod-and-twin tail designs like the Lockheed P-38 and Cessna Skymaster. Among others. The design was nothing unique to the Bronco to be "stolen" by anyone.
