Match plate! Awesome! Hey, if you want to get your pouring basin to come out in one solid plug of sand instead of breaking and staying in its hole, try ramming inside the brass pipe basin cutter with ie. a chunk of 1" dowel a couple times before you pull the cutter out. Works almost every time for me, a real time saver. And matchplate molding is all about saving time! That said, that size basin works great for my clay graphite crucibles but I've had a really hard time keeping up with them (keeping the sprue full) using those tiny little graphite crucibles for electric furnaces. Looked like your molds sucked some air here too. Although the castings luckily didn't seem to suffer. Lowering the weir/ridge between the basin and sprue may help some, but it'll still probably be pretty hard to keep the sprue and gating full with that crucible. Doing the tests and calcs to custom size a sprue that size crucible can keep up with is more work than it's worth for making decorative parts only though (IMO). What we did when we ran into the same issue (not being able to keep up with swdweeb's 3d printed sprues using little electric furnace crucibles) we got around it by dropping the offset basin in favour of a smaller funnel shape atop the sprue. We saw fewer misruns due to aspirated air bubbles and more customers walking out after their 4 class with a decent cast widget of some sort after we settled on that.

Does the heating element lose strength? I have a mass of metal stuck in the pot refusing to melt and I'm wondering if it's due to too much oxidation or due to the element being old. It is getting quite hot just by feel.
@HeinrichsMade11 күн бұрын
I'm not sure tbh, I don't think it loses strength. It will just stop working at some point. I think 🤔. I don't think it would be a problem to just scrape away any of the metal on the bottom.
