Great video, and congrats on nearly 10k subs!! I like the digital piano display, but as a near total beginner learning from youtube, it would be super helpful to see your hands when you play 🥲 Have you gone into how you choose chords before working out their voicings in any of your videos? Something like harmonic function, maybe? That's kind of the part that has me the most confused. I tend to default into basic (overused) chord progressions. Is it mostly about ear training and knowing what you want to communicate through music? Or is it more theoretical?

It would be rad to be able to see your hands/fingers when you are doing those embellishments around 4min mark, to understand the technique better. Love your videos! changed my music forever, #grateful

Great vid roger. Quick question - when you do Melodie’s over parallel chords do you have to stay in the key of each chord playing at that moment?

That last tip is the one...I've been doing this with new chords I learn for a while...just being able to have my fingers go right to a chord shape instead of worrying about key...I can always figure out the key with where I put my 5th finger on my left hand 👊🏾🎹🔥

Find a course! LEARN YOUR SCALES!! jam along to music you like, Learn grooves and solos Rick beatos “all music theory you need to know” lecture is great and then setting out to learn it! Have a roadmap! And then play music and jam as you go / as you learn it

Remember, you dont need to know how to explain music in order to make it sound good, try to have a joyfull time adjusting your technique while you learn , just allow yourself to have musical moments with play alongs, embrace the mistake. and i suggest focusing on learning music , not just piano. I mean, rythm exercises, singing, record yourself, difference between practice and performance, u need to know that improvisation/interpretation need different methods, guess all of that will help. dont let your mind overpass your technique and expression, feel free not to put names on everything, music is a language by itself. good luck!

I appreciate it! I second everything that's been said. I would recommend you to learn your scales (major and minor), basic chord types (major, minor, diminished, and augmented), and number system (I have a video on my channel). There's other stuff to learn, but this is a good starting spot. Make sure you're finding ways to enjoy the process while doing so.
