As all communities once were, JVL used to be a bustling area... nowadays it's on its way to becoming a totally desolate wasteland like much of St. Louis. Make no mistake, the same fate that Detroit was cursed with is the same fate that awaits St. Louis. Makes me want to cry. 🥲

Great video! You and Nathan make a good team! I need to find msyelf a Hyde Park lager shirt! Taking the bus to school in the 90s (Enright Middle, Visitation Park area), I could still see many Hyde Park ads on painted on bars' exterior walls, etc. Those ads must have been 50 years old at that point. I wonder if any have survived.

It's so beautiful ! A grand tribute to literature , reading and thinking . The noticible see-yourself shine on the marble floors is outstanding . And the stained glass window . Is it a L .C.Tiffany creation ? Thanks for sharing . St. Louis bibliophiles must be very proud .
@organstl
@organstl 9 күн бұрын
I'm not sure about that stained glass window. Research material is upstairs and the dvds/cds and children's section are downstairs I remember. I know they also have additional storage when an item says "stacks" and the employee has to go get it for you- areas that aren't open to the public. I've had that happen several times. It really is impressive- very beautiful.

I love the restaurants on the Hill, amazing food, and such a beautiful place! I'm Italian as well, though I grew up in San Francisco. I love how they've retained our culture and heritage on the Hill. You'd be right there were very mixed feelings about Italians fighting in the wars, the government didnt really trust them, especially not when we were at war with Italy itself. But realistically, the Italian immigrants in America overwhelmingly hated Italy's leaders and any thought of communism; it was the whole reason they came here. My grandfather, who was born in Sicily, proudly fought on behalf of America in WWII.

St. Louis needs an NFL team again! That city definitely supports NFL Football more than Jacksonville does and a much bigger market than at least 10 cities that has a team. The only reason why attendance was bad because the team was bad!! It’s a no brainer every team is that way!!

You can just go. They're open 7a-5p. They do have mass at 7, 8, and noon, but between 9a-noon is a good time or after the last one. You do not need tickets or reservations. Someone will be there to offer to answer any questions you may have also, but they will not bother you.

Wow, who knew all those facts! Loved watching your video while riding out Tropical Storm Debby here in Florida! Brings back a lot of memories of STL. My mom was a graduate of Beaumont in the early 1940s. I remember riding by Fairgrounds Park while up North, my maternal grandmother lived in Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood on Garasche, but earlier lived on Warne Ave. I never knew about the zoo at the park and the park's rich and diverse history. My mom often went to Cardinal games at Sportsman's Park as part of the Knothole Gang. I think they sat in bleachers. Thanks so much for posting and making my night while the storm rages outside!

We lived at 3901 Kossuth and walked to school every day. We only had one car which my Dad used for work. My Mom never drove and was a stay at home mom. My dad bought our 100 year old historical house that was built for visiting horse jockeys who trained and raced horses at Fairgrounds park. Life was just beautiful. By the way my dad purchased the house on the V.A. Bill for $ 7000 dollars ( he was a WW two vet. US Coast Guard ).
