I don’t understand the issue with “certified” flight instructor, they are called CFIs for a reason.

Would the change to "authorized instructor" allow the ground training to be given by a ground instructor?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
That is a great question! But if you read further in SFAR 73 it details how to become an 'authorized' instructor and includes the words 'flight training' - "...has satisfactorily demonstrated an ability to provide training on the general subject areas of paragraph 2(a)(3) of this SFAR, and the flight training identified in paragraph 2(b)(5)(iii) of this SFAR."

I would like more info on the R-44!
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
Buying? Flying? Both? Where are you located?
@Pork-Chopper26 күн бұрын
Ok, ok. So we know the R22 n R44 are kinda flakey RotorCraft to fly. What's important to know here is also that Robinson has made an upgrade to the tail plane or tail stabilizer for both the R22 n R44 that require removing the old stabilizer that mostly hangs to one side of the tail boom, which, logically places alot of stress on the tail boom air frame. The new upgraded stabilizer now fits the stabilizer equilaterally, below n a bit to the front of the tail rotor, making for a better fitment n better weight distribution... These upgrades should be made to all Robinson's in service asap...
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
I believe Robinson are offering a significant discount (about half price) to get the newer stabilizer fitted to older aircraft.

Surely if a helicopter has the ability to chop its tail off, it’s not fit to fly?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
There a plenty of helicopters that will chop their tail off if you fly them outside their normally operating envelope. Just like there are many cars that will flip over if you steer abruptly full left or right at 70 MPH, etc.

Airplanes have the ability to rip their tails or wings off, does that mean they’re not fit to fly?

Low G question: take the cyclic backwards to recover G, up to what moment do I have to maintain it?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
You only need to come aft cyclic enough to feel positive G restored (feel you bum positively back in the seat). If you hold it too long past that you will end up with a nose high, very slow airspeed situation. Once you have restored positive G, release aft cyclic pressure, fix any roll (although it usually sorts itself out) and maintain 60 to 70, depart the area of turbulence, or consider making a landing per Robinson's Safety Notice guidance.

Just an update as you know with the ACS all turns must now be completed by 300 AGL or it is a termination of the auto and a failure point now.
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
Yes thank you for putting that in here! What have you found to be the minimum entry altitude (AGL) to complete that in an R22? We are seeing 1000' AGL to be a good number for new students.

Which one is worst stuck left or right pedal?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos24 күн бұрын
That is a great question! I think it would also depend on how much pedal and what speed/power setting when it happens. And different airframes may have different procedures, but with what I do in the R22, I think I prefer stuck left pedal because the touch down speed tends to be slower and it is easier/safer to go around when low and slow with stuck left, IMO.

Great video, thanks for posting! I noticed that the new ACS does not mention the DPE acting as an autopilot, whereas I recall it being included in the PTS. Do you think this means it is no longer applicable?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos2 ай бұрын
Great point! The old PTS said "Examiners may perform the same functions as an autopilot but should not act as a copilot performing more extensive duties. " The new ACS has no such language. I have not heard any changes from the DPEs or students so I think things are still being done the same. It is hard to expect a single pilot to fly IFR in a helicopter without some form of autopilot, unless it was an emergency.

R44 near max gross hovers around 24 inches, how is 24 inches bad?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos3 ай бұрын
Great question! This is an R22, and at an elevation near 4000', about 20C = max continuous power limit of about 22" MAP. So in that aircraft, in those conditions, 24" would indicate a problem.
@KaisTheFireWarrior3 ай бұрын
@@HelicopterTrainingVideos just because a helicopter is using more than max continuous power to hover doesn't make it automatically bad. Yes I get that you're saying R22, but could the same be said for an R44 if hovering with 24 inches is bad?
@HelicopterTrainingVideos3 ай бұрын
Bottom line - know what is expected power for the current load/conditions/aircraft, if it is above that, you need to think why. Hover power check will help keep you safe.
@HelicopterTrainingVideos3 ай бұрын
ALSO - forgot to add to the video: AOO VII, Task B. Navigation Systems and Radar Services, S7 now requires you to maintain the selected altitude, ±200 feet and headings, ±15° while using an airborne electronic navigation system.

Has to be a balance between accessible in an emergency and not too easy to accidently pull - apparently that is the place.
@mountainmischief38284 ай бұрын
Awesome video! Never flown in a helicopter, I always assumed you'd increase power to create more RPM's, thus allowing the helicopter more lift. I see now that you're not really increasing RPM, you're just adding more power to compensate for the increase in lift created by changing the pitch of the blades. The more you know!
