As someone who is rapidly approaching my first solo this both helped and made me nervous at the same time. Im excited but im still not 100% confident when it comes to dead reckoning so mostly nervous for the solo cross country requirements. Though i know your first solo is pretty tame the thought of whats to come after being very soon is nerve wracking. nonetheless thank you for these videos, they help a lot

@Helicopter Training Videos Solos going great! Will be doing my cross country flights soon. Sadly my Instructor will be leaving to move upwards in tier of job towards the end of the month, so hoping I can get all my solo done by then. Really happy for him though!

"See you on the flip side..." (maybe not say that on the first solo flight :) Seriously though, that feeling of the first solo must be an amazing feeling!! (someday for me :) Q: After a quick stop and you're beginning your descent to a hover - would you change your angle of descent to reserve manifold pressure for any issues prior to the IGE hover? Meaning ETL doesn't really begin until about 30knts or so, but are you saying you get *some* efficiency with any forward translation so its best to use that to your advantage?

Yes best not to come to complete OGE hover and descend vertically - have a slow walking forward descent - you may not have OGE performance and you may also get into other issues with wind not always being a headwind (LTE etc). Also with forward movement, you are less likely to get into Vortex Ring State (if student was slow on collective up, etc). BUT if the need to do a quick stop to avoid something, you do whatever you need to do to avoid - so maybe a sideways hover descent - or a new air taxi in different direction etc.
