Awesome video. To mirror weights you don’t actually need to duplicate your mesh, just select the mesh verts that you want to mirror, and in pose mode mirror weights

When I thought I knew English, I was far from imagining I'd need to learn Blender one day What you say is really nice, and thank you for your dedication! Though I think I'm too much of a casual user (at this point in time) to need this video yet, I'm still at the learning software bases yet

You lost me at the part where you turned off “lock object modes” and started posing in weight paint mode. I can’t seem to do it🤔

useless tutorial. I understand the concepts of weight painting, the problem is in weight painting mode it does not let me paint. Blender is horribly unintutive with its menus. It seems you must have the bones in pose mode and the model in weight paint mode, etc. and select it in a certain order for it to allow to paint. Sometimes I can accidently hit the right combination and paint, but 80% it doesn't allow me to paint. All these youtube "tutorials" are absolutely useless unless you explain the "blender" workflow. I think most people understand the basic concepts, but it is the "menus" themselves which screw people up.

This is by far the best weight painting tutorial for Blender.

Using the smear tool with automatic weights beforehand is genius and makes the work so much faster and also easier by reducing the problem of weight painting the wrong thing.

21:40 for who wants and for myself a bit, as this is prob the worst thing ever that can happen to anyone at weight paint like moving a hand or part and it just moves the ## head bone.

there's no doubt its decidedly clunky and unintuitive in blender. it makes sense logically of course but for something as important as fine tuning the relationships between an armatures bones and its target mesh shouldnt feel so obscure and hidden. i'm not sure what features have been developed on anything after 2.9 as my system cant cope with 3... but i always wanted to see an editing tab/window with the obvious tools and functions immediately accessible without all the confusion and weird locations and modes. i guess it's a complex operation anyway... but still... yikes.

GREAT EXPLANATION.I SITLL CANT GO BEHIN A PIPE ATTACHED TO A NECK OF A CYBORG SO THAT IT CAN BEND WITH THE PROPPER BONE...basically, blender weight painting is beyond bugged and borderline retarded ... adding details to your character and THEN the bones not putting weight on them is just a norm, trying to paint on A face hidden from view on a detail that needs to move( like cyborg wires on a neck) is just NOT INTUITIVE OR EVEN DOABLE. Even worse if you do all the detailing of your character and add all the trinkets when you put the armature the weight gets auto distributed wrong, specially with complex models with complex geometry . so you try and paint manually, thus you end up at square one where yOu can't get the paint to apply propperly anywhere intricate within your mesh so you turn your neck and half the mesh details and back faces stay behind.

Super helpful, thanks! And if anyone's does the same oopsie as me where you can't swap to the other cameras - make sure you click the green camera icon in the outliner before hitting Numpad 0. Just clicking on the camera object is not enough to make it focused.

After weeks of researching, you have given me more information that is cohesive. The only thing is can you show on screen your hat your mouse is doing e.g. ctl + p? I can't see on screen what your mouse is doing. Other than that, the video is the best instructional video I have seen.
