Blender Object Data - Things I didn't learn from a tutorial

is there any shortcut to apply the object data? or do I need to click the shield icon every time?

you can select all the instanced objects and press F3 search for "make single user" and choose what data you want to make separate.

when I edit an object lets say I make a hole, and then I want another object to be the same as the object with the hole. Shouldn't this shift+L work? my question is, isnt the hole in the object part of the object data? hope it makes sense...
