As an update--I have now checked this bag several times on flights around the country and even overseas. NO issues so far. I have also started using it to store all my rods for local trips in my car to rivers in my area. I love this option as it holds all of my reels and rods (Trout spey, Euro and my 9' rods)-reels, spare tippet/leaders, mows tips, Korkers spare soles etc-- and I always have them on hand and ready to use at the rivers if I decide to do something different that day. It leaves my car much less cluttered and even my friends say "I am more organized" now. WOW.

NO! You just leave it out on the counter at room temp. Ours is about 68degrees in the winter and 74 in the summer. In the summer I will usually get up earlier to begin making bread because it “matures” much faster.

I am a fly fishing guide and I have used the Davy Knot for years to tie all my size 14 and smaller flies to my tippet. I have never had a problem with this knot and it has caught browns up to 30 inches long. Rainbows up to 10 pounds. When you are explaining to people on how to tie that knot be sure and tell them not to pull on the tag end. Just clip the tag off if it is too long. It is a simple knot to tie and leaves very little tag if any to be trimmed off.

Why not use red? Surely the sole will wear out before the hex, no?
@richardboesel
@richardboesel 7 ай бұрын
Actually, the hexs seem to be wearing the most after 2 yrs and are almost now all rounded, but still grip great. You are right, the "Red" more permanent option for fixing the hex nuts to the soles would work better and avoid loss of lugs during a trip--but originally, I wanted the option of being able to unscrew some if I didn't like them as is.

One of the many people/guides that fish spawning fish and brag about it. So unethical. I have seen the guides on the double Holston hold up over spawning fish. The three major guide services on these river are criminal because they actively fish spawning fish

TNN fish and game need to immediately adjust the closing of the fishing during the spawn migration of these magnificent fish on that river system as otherwise there will always be self-serving and agrandizing poser flyfishermen who will disrespect the resources and gifts you have on that river system. I have a brother who is a Master guide and I have heard many stories about these clowns, and it's even more disgusting to see the evidence of it.

@richardboesel
@richardboesel Жыл бұрын
I have had them 2 yrs now fishing several days a month and they are holding up great!. I just recently replaced the felt soles with new ones since I wore out the old ones. This is a great advantage since on my old Simms it was a fortune to replace them. I just ordered a new sole and popped them on. ALso, on a recent PHWFF outing, I replaced the soles with the aluminum disks for extra traction while climbing up muddy banks and holding up the veterans at the same time. Worked great - still super comfortable.

I like the rod tube option too. Given the price of those Fishpond cases, I would worry about the case itself being destroyed if it went into checked baggage - I have seen too many suitcases and other more valuable items destroyed by baggage gorillas and the logjams on the conveyor belt. The same goes for the thin gauge aluminum tubes that good quality rods come in these days! At least if they require you to check the rod tube, the Plano case is probably tough enough to stand up to the gauntlet at checked baggage, and you won't be shedding tears if it sustains cosmetic damage. As an aside, I sure with that Fishpond would stretch that shorter case just one inch so my favourite 9'6" rods would fit. Has anybody tried fitting a nine-and-a-half footer in the short case? I am trying to decide whether or not to order the short case.

In the beginning of your videos, I cannot hear a word you are saying unless I turn the volume to max. Even then I struggle to hear the beginning. I usually hate turning volume to max, but in your case, you never put some annoying loud music or load cars or whatever others do in their introduction. After you start fishing, I can hear you much better perhaps because you get excited about the catch and talk louder. Love that part! In fact I love seeing you catch and release so much I have subscribed. Love to see you catching those nice fish! Keep the videos coming! Currently, I fish an indicator setup, usually wool light weight indicator on rivers and a sliding cork with toothpick indicator on lakes with barbless jig hooks and weighted beads to keep the slack out of the tippet to flies. Your videos make me want me to try the euro style rod set up on rivers. The 2wt. Moonshine sounds very sensitive and perfect for a beginner euro guy.

@@richardboesel I think, when you are wearing the camera, I hear you great. It is only in the beginning of the big browns and this video 2nd day when you are not wearing the camera that the volume of your voice is too low for me. Like I said though, I like so much, I Subscribed. So do not worry or fret over this comment. I love seeing you catch fish and when wearing the camera, I hear you great. I have made a few videos and my biggest complaint is wiggling the camera way too much. Making people seasick. LOL! Keep them catching fish videos coming! Loving them!

Hey Richard, Thanks for video. I just bought the Epiphany 4w 10' and was wondering if I should get the 3-4w reel or 5-6w because of the larger arbor. This video helped me make a decision on 5-6w. Hows the reel doing for you after a year? It looks pretty bulletproof.

Great job Richard, they look great :) Have you gained any experience with #16-18 hooks and respective wire sizes since you made this video? All the best, Andreas
@richardboesel
@richardboesel 2 жыл бұрын
No-not really. I think you are only limited by the size of lead wire you can find to wrap the hooks. I have made some size 16 but no size 18 yet. Also, recently I have mostly switched to using UV resin over the top of the initial paint to speed the process. This creates a "no bake" process which is vastly simpler, but defeats the original/traditional method.
@andreas9036
@andreas9036 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardboesel thank you for sharing - do you still use the ceramic paint and clear resin without letting the paint dry? Or just UV resin with pigments?
@richardboesel
@richardboesel 2 жыл бұрын
Usually the Paint followed by the Clear UV resin. BUT i still do the traditional baking method as this tends to make a nice blending after baking especially if using 2 or more colors. It also slighltly changes the colors but not sure if that is worth the extra time and effort.
@andreas9036

@@richardboesel I will try the traditional method first and gain some experience with it. Seems more eco-friendly.
