How many patients do you take care of at a time? What is the starting salary for a RN and LPN? What's the main differences between an RN and LPN?
@Brithenurse8 күн бұрын
The amount of patients you take care of really just depends on where you’re working, but when I worked at the hospital on a med surg unit lpns and rns had the same amount of patients which was 5. The main difference was that RNs could hang blood and do initial assessments, other than that we did the same thing.

Currently I’m a CNA in a hospital here in Maryland . I’m pursuing my ADN-RN at a community college. The community college also has a partnership with the University which allows me to work on my BSN while I’m working on my ADN. Good thing about this is my job is paying for my tuition plus offering me tuition assistance. Also after graduation and I get my RN, I’ll do my time in the Residency program. I’m,really blessed to be a part of an organization that cares about career advancement because they care about educational growth as well. My ultimate goal tho is to become a nurse practitioner

Hey I'm in RN school, but I'm recently divorced and am starting my second job soon, so I think I'm going to switch to LPN. All I want to do is long-term care, but I'll feel guilty if I switch programs. I'm concerned that I physically can't survive 2 jobs full time plus RN school, so what I'm trying to ask is this- Do you feel that you get to spend a good amount of one-on-one time with your patients as an LPN vs if you were there as an RN? I'm a CNA now, and I'm also worried that if I'm an RN, all I'll basically be doing is computer & meds when what I want to do most is the actual bedside care. I just can't survive on a CNA salary. Any tips on my switching from RN to LPN, please? Thank you. I really appreciate your video!
@Brithenurse3 ай бұрын
Honestly I’ve heard the RN program is little more slower paced than the LPN program and it may be easier for you to work. I think that because LTC is normally short staffed you don’t get to spend much time with your patients whether you’re an Lpn or RN. If you feel more at peace switching to LPN I’d go for it, but in my honest opinion I’d stick with the RN program while you have the opportunity because of LTC burns you out you’ll have much better job options and better pay. I hope I was able to help!

It really depends on what you want in life. If you want work life balance than nursing isn’t for you period. You can be an LVN put in those 60 hours a week and make 6 figures. If you need an expanded lifestyle than you can be an RN work them 60 hours and get the mini mansion you really can’t afford and never retire. So in essence just do what makes it work for you but there’s no 1 fits all solution it’s gonna be trade offs. You got ppl who are doing well that are mechanics because they have no debt they’ve been invested since their 20s and they keep their lifestyle below their means. Also yall got to take into consideration nursing can be a physically and mentally taxing career and most of us will probably be taking out a lot of debt to get that RN and if you’re young cool you got plenty of time to pay that debt off

I watch multiple vids for corrections jail and prison nursing. I haven't found one yet that can give just a ballpark for how many incarcerated "patients" one med pass might be. I have only read overwhelming stories of nurses having 90 inmates on one med pass. Is that possible? THAT is what is keeping me from following through for onboarding. That's beyond to me, it would be non stop the entire shift.
@Brithenurse7 ай бұрын
It really depends on the facility location and the population of the county, so I would start there. And not only that some patients don’t get meds everyday. Some inmates have chronic illnesses and get meds everyday and some have temporary conditions that may only require them to be on meds for a couple of weeks, months etc. You also have inmates that leave and are taken off med pass and vice versa with new inmates that are added on. I’ve worked at a small facility where med pass takes about an hour and a bigger facility that took about 2 hours. Sometimes there’s more than one nurse and med pass is split between the two. Hope this helps a little.

@@Brithenurse I can understand what your are trying to share with me. I may be going in to a very big state prison in California, very high full capacity. I would hope there would be a co-nurse for whatever unit I'm sent to. @Brithenurse7 ай бұрын
@@sarahchandler695 I see what you’re saying and I hear prison and jail are kinda different but most nurses prefer the prison setting because it’s more routing and structured. Try to see if you can shadow a shift for a day before committing to the position, also try googling “correction nursing all nurses”, it’s a nurse forum online and many nurses give their insights and opinions. Good luck with everything , keep me updated if you can!

I hate being a LPN. The pressure is real. And tbh I don’t wanna go back because I love nursing. Cause tbh being a nurse has made me hate it. I am only anxious to go back because I feel like I am stuck. Like stuck wage wise opportunity wise we are limited. And livin in the northern east coast the cost of living is insane. Also us LPNs are not given grace. People look down on us. I can count how many times I’ve been at an assignment and was asked by people who were only school aids asking me what kind of nurse am I and if I was a HHA. It’s highly offensive that if I am a nurse you need to know which one I am because you want to know how you should treat me. Not to mention the jobs don’t be wanting to pay us. Unfortunately, I can’t go back because now we have to be Covid Vaccinated. My college is offering the bridge program and the lady who is runnin the program (or so I think that’s who she was) told me that if I am not vaccinated the program is not for me.. she didn’t even offer me to come back when I decided to get vaccinated she simply said if you are not vaccinated then this program is not for you. Am I canceling your appointment? After hearing her say that I came to the conclusion that maybe nursing isn’t. Cause now all I’ve come across is people in charge who are not understanding.

Ugh that's so frustrating, I'm sorry. My biggest fear is not being able to make it through nursing school because I don't want to get the covid vaccine.
