Then Jak in Jak and Daxter isn't the main character. In the first game he doesn't say a word, and the whole game is about Daxter's journey of returning to his original form. And in the end, he chooses to stay an ottsel to save the world. Similarly clank was the main protagonist in ratchet and clank. He's the one born to stop drek's evil plan, he's the one insisting on finding captain quark, and he's the one who didn't give up when things got hard or needed his own home threatened to do something. Ratchet was a bit of an a$$ in the first game xD

there is a game franchise that's a little unknown here in the west called "caligula effect". it captions this emotion theming pretty well when it comes to game mechanics, with it having a "limit" bar, called the "stress meter". having it fill up let's you use that character's "overdose skill". though obviously omori still takes the cake in emotion theming edit: i highly recommend caligula effect overdose and 2 if you liked omori and persona. particularly persona 5 royal. some themes are similar, but before you think it's a knockoff copy, know that caligula's director made persona 1 and 2, and that it was caligula effect that inspired the 3rd semester of persona 5 royal. there's even a line referencing it in the 3rd semester: "werent they a part of the go-home club?" the go-home club is the name of the party on both caligula effect games.

Also, regarding the emotions of Omori's characters, I should point out a few more things 1) The emotions in the picture of emotions correspond to the characters’ ways of coping with tragedy Aubrey is consumed by rage The hero experienced depression and is now a shadow of his former self. Kel was actually able to cope with the tragedy and was able to live happily Sunny locked himself up and now he doesn’t really feel anything And fear haunts all shadow entities, including the Stranger, which reflects Basil’s state 2) Sunny in the real world cannot move beyond the first stage of emotions, and cannot feel joy But can have 3 states of fear At the same time, Omori's emotions, unlike everyone else, are more unnatural He can feel Mania or Worthlessness or Rage, and even his lower stages appear unnatural 3) And what I remember I could be wrong, but in the real world characters can only reach 1 stage of emotions and only 1 emotion they can have 2 stages

ULTRAKILL. You are not the protagonist. You are the force that moves the story forward.
Another game that masters tension and close calls is "It Steals"
@botondzoltannagy8849Күн бұрын
You can say that, but you're still the protagonist, you're still controlling them.

The final point of the video really ties in well with what Mae says at the end of the game: “Nothing is gonna save us forever, but a lot of things can save us today.” We don’t need something we can hold on to forever, we just need something that can get us through right now. And that’s what the little friend group from Possum Springs became for each other. Thank you for this beautiful essay. I’m sorry for your loss.

Very cool video! If you like games that feature emotions, I recommend checking out Renowned Explorers, which features them heavily (mostly in combat, but also in other choices as well)

Honestly, one of the better things about the Omori emotional chart is the Faraway segment. Specifically, Sunny. Take the other three. Aubrey can feel all emotions, so can Kel, so can Hero. Sunny, can only feel the first stage of sadness or anger (sad, angry), and cannot have the happy emotion. Furthermore, the "angry" emotion is greatly exaggerated, similar to Omori's "enraged". This suggests not only an emotional blunting, but also his anger issues (which, of course, came to a head with Mari).

i have personally always liked bea her route morejust because i find the final couch talk more rewarding since bea has resentment towards mae for quitting school. and that is when they finally talk about it. that is build up from the start of their story. but overal this game holds such a soft spot in my heart so do these characters

nope, the game is about the cat, the bot is an NPC that gives the big mission, lots of games do this: "chosen one" tropes, "retired hero" tropes, "friend can't do the thing" tropes (either is dead, can't walk or is too old and it doesn't have to be the friend it can also be the master, parent, son or whatever), plus MMOs do this thing constantly. People like cats, there where other games about animals (like spirit of the north) before, but this one had sony on his back and a cat as main character so it was a walking advertisement, the game was well made but it had nothing shocking, many games explore smaller characters interacting within a "normal" world. Anyway, good video, presentation and arguments (albeit, in my opinion, the point you present actually isn't that way)

Meanwhile library of ruina does emotion coins according to how desperate you are, and throwing your librarian into hopeless despair after sacrificing everyone else is a unstable yet viable strategy

*Spoilers* Night in the woods tackles many themes and topics beautifully, but to me its always been a game about change. Specifically about the fear of and need for change. Possum Springs is this dead, stagnant thing that refuses to change, Mae returns in a desperate attemt to regain a state of mind and self that was safe. By the end of Greggs storyline he says: "you have to let me change" its a brutal thing to be confronted with, that nothing ever stays the same, that every friendship will come to an end, that all towns will vanish off the map. But accepting the inevitably of it, makes it so you can move forward too. Because only by moving forward can you leave behind that which hurts you and embrace what can heal you. By the end or the story Mae accepts this, and finds a small fragment of peace of mind because of it. In the dark woods she, Gregg and Angus puts up a weird scarecrow looking thing to scare kids into telling each other ghost stories. And before leaving she says one word: "goodbye" And it hurts, and she wants it to hurt. Because it mattered. This is my favorite game of all time, it means so much to me if you couldn’t tell.
