Product for you to try as far as the plastics go. 303 Aerospace. I only have experience with the product in the white bottle, but I imagine the others work great also. Just an easier alternative to painting. it is a little pricey, but it really makes a big difference with bring back some luster in plastics as well as protecting from UV rays. Which Arizona gets plenty of. The dash of my 88 looked a lot like that, and after a few coats of that product it really came back around. It kind of acts like Armor all, but isn't super slick or weird like it can be. This should be a good candidate to try and get spruced up a bit though. Body looks great and with a tuneup, some carb work, it should come out great for the next future owner. Looking forward to the next samurai series!

Loosen up that main crank bolt and see if there's play with the woodruff key. I had to pull mine of, put in a new key and rotate it clockwise (so it's in the right position) and crank that main bolt down real hard. That's IF that's the timing issue. Mine had no power even though it idled OK and revved up not under load. Just something to check out. You can bring number 1 up TDC and see if the line on the pulley is at the 0deg mark. The flywheel one should read the same. If they're not, then the main pulley has slipped some. If this is off, your cam timing will be off.
@FixLife119
@FixLife119 6 күн бұрын
@@garrykennedy5484 Yes sir, the outer pulley was wobbly and he said they had it off at some point. I'm sure it didn't get lined back up so that timing mark was off. That shouldn't affect the inner timing belt pulley behind it that turns the cam (idk, maybe I'm wrong, I've never had one of those off), that outer belt only turns the alternator I think. I'm sure we'll pull it off later because I don't like the way it wobbles, but might have to pull the radiator and there's an elec fan shoehorned in there also (ughh) so it'll be an ordeal. I just used the back one to time it real quick, then it idled much better after that, still had carb issues which we took care of in later videos, I have a bunch to edit still. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
@garrykennedy5484
@garrykennedy5484 6 күн бұрын
You're correct. That outer pulley does not turn your timing belt. But the little pulley behind it does and that's where the Woodruff key is that I'm referring to. However your timing mark is on the main pulley. Call that Woodruff key does is align it for when you took it down. So if you can get it aligned even though the main crank maybe wallowed out a little with her Woodruff key goes, if you get it in the right spot and crank it down tight like it should be it shouldn't move.

@FixLife119
@FixLife119 10 күн бұрын
@@Steven-pv1xr In that case I think I was trying to get it to pass emissions and hopefully get a smoother idle. Just swapped another Weber for a 3k on my friends dad's Samurai a few weeks ago (still gotta edit that). That one just wouldn't run right. He had already rebuilt it, and it needed a new acc pump and power valve, so instead of spending $30 on that and hoping that fixed it, he spent $54 on the 3k and it frieken runs like a top now! They're cheap but they work very well. I had a lot of people tell me that in my comments before and I finally tried it, now I'm a believer. I'm not knocking Weber, they're good too, but when it comes to rebuilding a Weber or swapping to a 3k, twice I've had better luck with the 3k. They're also supposedly better on inclines when off roading.

Toyota carb is probably good. But i am totally satisfied with the weber conversion
@FixLife119
@FixLife119 10 күн бұрын
@@Steven-pv1xr Yeah mine was really good too. When I bought the Samurai, it fired in like half a crank and idled really well. In my tinkering to attempt to pass emissions the idle got worse and I was trying things to get it idling really good, the 3k was so cheap I figured I would try it and it would be good content, it ran pretty much exactly the same after swapping it. I tried it facing both directions because there's a vent tube in the base of the manifold and because the Weber isn't a true 2 barrel I thought maybe it needed to have that vent tube on a certain side, anyways, nothing made a difference. I made a thermal gasket, that didn't matter either. So I found you can slap the 3k on facing either direction without a thermal gasket and it'll run great. I also wanted to try a manual choke so I bought one for like 8 bucks and loved it. My weber had the wet choke where the coolant runs through part of it to heat up the choke spring. I learned that I like the manual choke much better. But yeah they're both great carbs.

The bolt without a head is a special security bolt, once torqued to spec, it will snap the actual head off. They are just regular M8 bolts - I replaced them with allen head bolts on my SJ410, because my new (aftermarket) ignition barrel looks and feels a bit like it won't last another 40 years.
