@@hugofriberg3445 Regardless, this was clearly the other pilot on a hot mic. In addition to it not being the same voice, if that were the controller switching to Korean, it would be very odd for the pilot not to respond back in Korean.

Let’s not forget the First Officer on that day did his part in bringing that aircraft down safely. First officers are often forgotten. No I’m not a first officer. I’m not even a pilot, I do work in aviation though. Regardless, this is still absolutely amazing that everything fell into place and they immediately reverted to training and instinct and added to aviation history. Well done gentlemen, well done.

All the ATC had to say was “hey if you’re not at 230 could you please go to that thank you” and it’d be done lmao but he wanted to argue by being extremely sarcastic and after the pilot asked “what do you need sir” .. ATC argued even FURTHER! This guy needs to be fired.

Still watching this after 14 years ! Its still awesome to listen this professional ATC-Pilot conversation. Sully`s coolness the whole time and the pressure and tension that grown on the ATC `s shoulders is just crazy. Sure i watched Sully already 5-6 times and it doesnt get old. Stunning , really Stunning the whole Story.

Did they ever correct the incorrect read back of the “climb and maintain 040” before the handoff? The instructions were to turn to heading 040 expedite climb to 9000 and maintain 11,000.

ATC was sure enough that the pilot meant his heading :) Since he had already read back heading and altitude correctly before, imo it was fine not to correct that.

He did not correct him because he could see the aircraft had already climbed far past 4,000 feet. The only explanation was heading; and while graveyards are littered with people who made assumptions, in this case it was impossible for the Korean crew to either climb or maintain 4,000 feet.

It was surprising to hear how quickly they speak and how bad the sound quality is. Also surprising that they consistently get the flight number wrong both verbally and in the transcript. Having said that, I was impressed with how quickly everyone reacted (flight crew, air traffic control and the towers at both LaGuardia and Teterboro). From the time of the bird strike to the decision to land in the Hudson happened so quickly! No time to contemplate.

So much envy of the controller! I struggled for years to learn Korean, but never got anywhere near fluent. Lots of envy, too, of pilots whose first language is not English, but who can manage in aviation English. And of bilingual and multilingual folks of all stripes.

2:03 and 2:07 I think he's saying "less" traffic, not "left" traffic.
@tonamg53
@tonamg53 2 жыл бұрын
No, its “left” traffic meaning that he would be joining the left hand traffic pattern for landing on the runway. “Less” traffic does not make any sense as in an emergency, the ATC would clear any traffic that are in the way no matter how dense it is and they are trained to not pass any useless information to the pilots. It is critical for the pilot to know left or right traffic pattern as if he was able to get an engine working, the plane would be able to either turn left or turn right only due to the asymmetrical thrust from just running one engine.

@@newsnowbc1934 You have no idea what you're talking about. He has it on his screen. He has a ground stop on LGA. Approach is diverting everything in the area. He is essentially talking to Cactus 1549 and a handful of other just-departed planes. The ONLY way it could matter is if there just happened to be a Cactus 1529 in that airspace at that moment. The likelihood of that is slim to none. And, even if there WAS a Cactus 1529...I'm pretty sure that they would know that the emergency instructions being barked out are not for them. I'll bet you're a grammar nazi, too.

Even if the hearing aid was broken (still his fault anyway), you should know that you don't just sit on a runway and not turn off after landing.
