May seem insignificant, but even a hat getting sucked into an engine could cause problems. At the very least they would need to get the engines checked out before flying again. So... "hats off" to 9-4 HAHHAHAHA!!

Well, some people may consider this "being trivial" on the part of the pilot but we do keep getting beat over the head (at least in the States) with the slogan, "If You See Something, Say Something." Obviously meaning if you see something out of the norm or suspicious. I would consider a hat on a taxiway to at least count as, "out of the norm."

OMG that is so freaking funny... it would've been hilarious to listen to the comms... i saw a couple of deer hanging around Dade Collier in FL and reported them and they had to close the RWY while they scared them away

Are you flying a roller skate? Our nosewheels are more than 2 feet in diameter. I'm not to worried about a hat getting stuck in it! ;) Clearly the reason he called was because of what was on the hat.

Hat? Pah, I once had to report a coyote wandering down the runway at Goodyear Airport in Arizona. Unsurprisingly the tower asked me to "say again." A few weeks later I was taxing to the run up area and I heard a friend reporting two more coyotes mating in just off the taxiway.

I would care if it gets tangled up in my nosewheel. And why shouldn't he report anything unusual to the controllers? He wasted about five seconds on that call, and at that time he was taxiing towards a runway, without anything to do else than puttering along at 10 kts.
