Most of all I want to know where you got that little thumb urushi holder. :-) I can form, fire and glaze one I think. I've just never seen one before. Sure wish there were other language subtitles.

This is a tool called a "Tsume ban.(爪盤)" The version I'm using in this video was made using the head of a wooden spoon. In Japan, thin and disposable wooden spoons are readily available at a low cost. Currently, I'm carving and creating it from a wooden board. You're absolutely right. I don't understand much beyond Japanese, but since there are only a few words being used in this video, using ChatGPT could potentially generate (although not necessarily accurate) subtitles. I would like to add English subtitles in the future so that more people can understand the art of kintsugi.

@@KintsugiLibrary Thank you very much for your response. Your "Tsume ban" might be a game changer for me. 🙂
Hello, gold dust is unfortunately very expensive now and will be for some time. Silver turns black over time. Do you have a video or tips on using other metal powders. How about tin, bronze or copper. What are your techniques for working them? And thank you again from France for the fabulous educational work.

I use tin and copper but they both oxidise too, also copper is not recommended to go in contact with food

Hello. Thank you for watching the video. That's right. I apply "black lacquer (呂色漆:Roiro-Urushi)" over the silver powder. This is because I feel that the silver looks more beautiful if black is applied over the silver powder. It is okay to apply "brown lacquer" such as "(生漆:Ki-Urushi)" or "(木地呂漆:Kijiro-Urushi)", but the finish of the silver powder will turn a little brown.
Hello, may you please tell me what the name of the clear liquid is that you used to polish the gold powder in step 13? (⑬ 粉を磨く)

Sorry for the late reply! This is vegetable oil. Canola oil, olive oil, etc. can also be used. The key is to polish with just a little bit of oil and a little bit of polish.
