Not a bad video but he kind of got the Narrow category all wrong.

I ski on K2 Catamaran with 120 under foot as my daily skis at Whistler. I've got to work them but I'm so used to them now I hardly notice. In April I switch to Atomic Nomads and I can throw them around easily in the spring snow.

So smaller is better?
@ilmaestro658210 күн бұрын
So 95% of people spend 95% of their time on piste. Why would you want anything >80mm for this? Doesn’t have to the anything with your abilities at all. Broader skis are for off piste powder… The best skier in the world would choose a smaller ski for on piste skiing!
@nottwo649210 күн бұрын
Width is just one thing. Ski length, turn radius and rocker profile matter as much, or even more. I have many skis, but actually often end up on groomers with 120mm under foot old Rossi Squad 7s. Why? They have no edge really and are 190cm with a massive turn radius. Perform well in neck deep pow, but super fun on groomers as they have no speed limit and are challenging. Skiing groomers on slalom carvers would be too easy.

I am buying boots today. This video was the best thing I could have watched prior to going in the store. It also made me realize I should be going into a shop that has the most experience in this area.

I just found this video, but I am from New Brunswick Canada and I want to travel in the backcountry on old logging roads, on lakes and some forests. I really don’t plan on going downhill unless there’s some small slopes or ridges, but overall just to travel the backwards I thought the skis would be better than snow shoes.

wow - skis have changed in the last 20 years since I bought my last pair - Still rocking my 190 Atomic R9's Awesome for trails, but get into any Sierra cement and huston we have a problem! Great in the real fluffy stuff but get that so rarly in Tahoe. Its all wet and heavy. Still - once waxed up they will beat my adult kids on 20/30 y/o legs any day of the week! Still have a pair of Blizzard 205 slalom's in the attic I got in the early 90's! Tempted to get them out.

The shortcut: In most cases, adults should measure their right foot length in centimeters, the multiply it by 1.575. You get the "European" size. 27.5 cm = ski boots size 43-44. Another trick id to add 2 to the regular shoe size. If your shoe size is 40, your ski boots size would be 42. To get the Mondo (cm) size, add 1.3 cm. 27.5 + 1.3 = 28.8, so Mondo size 29.

Great overview! I have a question: I’m sitskiing and I want to get into all terrain / powder conditions. I know the wider I go the more difficult it gets ti switch from edge to edge. But do all the same rules apply as normal skiing or is there something to take into account? There is a fact that I’m only on one ski and therefore have less floatation I assume. Hopefully someone has some good tips and insight.

Went to pro ski shop and had a boot custom fitted. After six runs, I could never wear that boot again. Complete waist of money as the boot was crushing my foot. Even went back for adjustments. Tried again and had to stop skiing in them. Complete fail.

I'd say 96 but for some narrows tracks could be too large, nose diving in fresh powder? I never heard of that. Namastè.

I’m seeking advice on purchasing a new pair of easy-to-control and forgiving skis, as I’ve recently developed some knee issues and would like something more helpful for all-day skiing. I own the 2020 K2 Mindbender 99Ti and the 2024 Blizzard Brahma 88, both of which I enjoy. However, I’m now looking for a ski that is less demanding, not focused on speed, and versatile enough to handle various conditions, including some fresh snow. Here are my details to help with your recommendation: • Height: 180 cm • Weight: 98 kg • Skiing level: Advanced Essentially, I’d like an all-mountain ski that prioritises comfort, ease of use, and some forgiveness without sacrificing versatility. I’d greatly appreciate your insights on what models might suit my needs.

Thanks! Look at the new Nordica Enforcer line. The 94 if you're a more on piste skier, and the 104 if you want a more 50/50 on/off piste ski. If you want something a tad more playful, the Rustler line from Blizzard is a great option as well.

Love my full. camber 1976 Kneissel Freestar skis. I learned how to ski in in 1960's and 1970's. Took me a full season to learn how to ski on my Volkl Kendl 88 skis. The old skis do bbetter in the steep moguls. Up set down up turn down. Old school.

Hi , I am a bit over 6 feet and 185 lbs - I am a beginner to intermediate level - go for about 7-10 days a year to ski and spend 6-8 hours on the slope . What flex index do you recommend? 100-120 - I went to a store and tried rossignol HV 120 and 110 - did not buy it yet. I also tried K2 100

6'1" 200. Still rocking my vintage 1985 Atomic Arc RS 205s. Have dallied with newer skis of various sizes over the past 40 years and always find myself reverting to my old Atomics. Except in deep powder.

It’s not length, it’s surface area and no one is doing the test where different weights are set on a ski in fresh light powder to see the point where it starts to sink in the same way snowshoes work. If you are NOT in bottomless powder, then just pick the ski shape best suited for your speed and turn radius. Additionally, swing weight is an important factor for beginners all the way to older aged experts based on how strong your legs are.

You did not cover the instep component of this equation adequately so I had to THUMBS DOWN this video. My foot is 25.5cm & 95mm wide BUT I have a 28cm instep (That is NOT a typo). A boot fitters I visited on Friday said that I have a "high volume" foot so would need to look for a high volume boot. I am looking for a race boot and am around a 20 handicap racer having been skiing for 59 years.

Hello! Female - 152 cm in height - 105lbs. I was using/ renting 140 cm last season as a beginner this is what they recommended me to use and I recently purchased 150 cm skis. Did I make a wrong decision?
@MountainVibes2 ай бұрын
That really depends on what you bought. If the skis have a lot of tip and tail rocker, you should be okay. Keep in mind, with a longer ski will have to work more to get the ski to turn. But it won't be impossible. A shorter ski is more maneuverable.

I own Anon M4 Goggles, glade Adapt 2 and some cheap 60.00 Smiths. I found the lenses on the Anon and glades to be the same in clarity. The cheap smiths are not near as good in clarity. No way i would purchase the Anon goggles again. For about 150.00 the Glades seems to be as good as the Anons and a lot better then the Smiths. Plus at 150.00 you can afford to replace them in the lenses get scratched.

A bit off topic, but what length do you ski in relation to your height / weight?
@MountainVibes2 ай бұрын
That really depends on what skis you're looking at, your skiing ability, and what you want the skis to do. It's not as simple as saying you need a ski that's at your mouth, your eyes, or at the top of your head.

Thanks for the video! I am starting skiing but progressing very quickly since I am advanced in snowboarding. I bought the Nordica 3 110 Speedmachine R(GW) which felt super comfy and fitted very well on my feet and of course because of the stiffness they felt a little bit more difficult to bend (nothing serious I think). The seller recommended me those because he told me that if I buy a softer one (80 flex) I would have to replace it very soon! What do you think about it? My weight is 170lbs and 5,8 feet tall and very active guy (I ride bike 3 times per week and play tennis)
@MountainVibes3 ай бұрын
The Speedmachine 110 will give you lots of room for growth/ progression with your skiing. You may find it a bit too stiff right away, but with your athletic lifestyle, you shouldn't have any issues mid season onwards as you become a stringer skier. The draw back to having a stiffer boot is you may find yourself skiing in the backseat a lot, and lack control.

I am looking for a boots that i can use in both. Also which binding should i match with the boots you will recommend. Thanks a lot
@MountainVibes5 ай бұрын
I use the Tecnica Cochise, mainly because they fit my feet well. There are other options out there (k2 mindbender, Salomon Shift Pro). It all depends on what fits you. But these boots will do what you're asking for. As for bindings, the only true hybrid bindings on the market are the Marker Duke PT, Cast Free Tour, and the Salomon Shift. Each have their pros and cons.
