As somebody who rigs level ups, I find it hilariously comedic that you edited them all to 100%. I would have just reset the game hundreds of times and complained. Only time I was happy was Engage maddening fixed level up system.

That's genuinely the reason I did it lmao. Otherwise I would've just lied on the internet and rigged them anyways and been like "that's crazy I can't believe my Roy capped every one of his stats!" In the future if I ever do any solo runs though I will pick ones that are easy enough without maxing out growths because it's funni. And yeah Engage fixed mode should really be added to every game, sometimes I just want to see what a character should be able to do and not get screwed/favored by RNG.

I think it's not about players undervaluing reliability. That Tier List you showed at the beginning of the stat boosters? I don't think you meant to rank the boosters per se, but instead use them as a stand-in for the stats themselves, and THAT is the issue. When comparing weapons or even, say, Three Houses combat arts, you will find that 1 point of might often is considered of similar value to about 5 ppints of hit. Steel weapons often have +3 might and -15 hit compared to iron, Wrath Strike is +2 might and -10 hit to Smash and even the GBA Tellius Support affinites give bonusses in steps of half a point of might or defense relative to 3 hit or avoid. Now the reason that the Skill/Dexterity stat is valued lower is because one point in it contributes to 2 hit in most games, where a point of strength is a full point of damage. Clearly, the imaginative tradeoff between a point of strength and a point of skill would be in favor of strength, since we already established that about 1 damage is about equal in value to 5 hit, not 2. So ultimately, players don't undervalue reliability by itself, but rather the issue stems from the skill (and luck) stats being too inconsequential. I personally would actually appreciate if the stats that affect accuracy and avoid had a bigger impact to make them more meaningful. That way, a high skill unit could actually be valued, as opposed to that trait being seen as a niche at best and being outcompeted by raw damage and defense.

We actually agree exactly on that lmao. There's a reason I specifically mention most things besides those stats since everything else is what actually increases it. The fact that you can make units with ungodly low skill or luck have still good reliability shows this, otherwise wyvern elise or arthur would be bottom tier units. But also I think even if these stats did get buffed, I still think from a simplicity standpoint it's a lot easier to stop thinking about it and just try to maximize damage especially when most games don't even have units with hit problems. (the games where enemies have 0 luck, and games where forging hit is extremely easy, namely) I've only personally noticed this cause I'm ungodly lucky in certain games so it makes me seeing 100% hit and 0% crit feel a lot better cause I know it's just my bad strategy that's killing me instead of RNG. Even when not in an ironman missing a 85% hit is still very possible and that was more so what I was trying to say, just compressed a little for the purposes of this video.

i feel that with this chain of thought buffing skill wouldnt actually help since hitrate + 5 would make 20 skill + 100 hit. so unless you buffed the avoid of speed you'd end up with hitrates so high that more skill is irrelivent. or weapons so innacurate that low skill units would be unusable. best solution in this case would be to lower the value of strength. increasing hp values by double alongside the might of weapons would achieve this

@@boserboser6870 That is why in my first comment I specified that stats that affect hit AND avoid should be buffed. Your idea certainly works as well, and has actually been attempted to an extent. HP values in FE 4 are actually unnaturally high for the series, more so than any other stat. The issue then is that it takes VERY long to kill anything. You don't have to look much further than Gaiden/SoV, specifically the stretch of game where you don't have weapons yet, to see how spongy enemies can really drag the pacing down.

I've never beaten the base game even though i have a physical translated cartridge, but turns out if you get nomad roy in a randomizer and then a bow knight he's suprisingly good Crazy how a promotion makes him viable if it isn't at the end of the game

Yeah it's pretty tragic. He wouldn't even be that good with a promotion earlier since his stats are way too average in a series that typically rewards specializers but it being so late just makes him do nothing in the mid game even if you've used him.

24:16 Actually, that *is* partly your fault- Awakening (and Fates too I thiiink) decides the kid's stats from parts of their parent's stats (Dad + Mom + Kid/3). Since Sumia has not seen a single drop of EXP in her time with the Shepherds, she has nothing to provide to her daughters. If you wanted a strong Lucina in this challenge (while keeping RobinXOlivia) then you'd want to pair Sully with Chrom since she can AT LEAST get some Dual Strike EXP in. *(It'd also be nice because there's little to no reason to ever do this pairing, at least the Maiden is funny)* I've done the ChromXOlivia pairing in Lunatic before by grinding Olivia to max level on her join chapter through dancing and then promoting her to Dark Flier (cuz Galeforce) and the result was a shockingly strong Lucina for a Level 10, letting me use her for a few Lunatic maps without having to baby her. Meanwhile when I recruited Morgan with parents who had reclassed numerous times, she was at her stat caps, with a whopping... 25 strength lmao. It's Awakening so you're expected to backpack, but it's got some drawbacks not everybody thinks of.

WHAT. I knew that parents stats were at least partial for it but that formula if true is just ridiculous. Would explain why I've only had success with child units when they had Robin as a parent cause at least then Robin would always have insane stats. But that honestly makes me question child units even more because if you have to use the parents a lot, they're probably already good and you wouldn't need ANOTHER good unit. Plus that'd be like at the end of the game. Nice for post game but I never engage with that so...

@ yeah it’s pretty agreed upon that the kids in Awakening stink if you’re not going to farm EXP, and it doesn’t help that in Classic you’ll probably lose their parent before they can replace them LOL. Thank goodness Fates adding Offspring Seals and Chapter scaling, otherwise you’d likely NEVER use child units in Conquest

@ Yeah, although I have problems with the way some kids are handled in Fates too. They can either only be a hyper carry (Percy, Ophelia), only be a support unit (Every child that can get rallies, staff bots) or are just plain bad no matter what (Midori, Ignatius, Kana). There’s not really one you can just slot in as another combat unit unfortunately.

7:33 It's actually a 7.68% chance. You forgot to account for the fact that the one Str gain could have happened on any one of the 5 level ups, so you have to multiply the odds by 5.

I mean if you just rig every dice roll in your favor it is surely possible. If enemies have 99 hit they always miss and if Roy has 1% crit he always crits he should be able to win. I also don't get why you keep saying "game design" as if you are implying FE6 is poorly designed when you are not playing as intended and are doing a challenge you designed after changing the game's code. I am not saying FE6 game design is good or bad but you designed this game you are playing not them.

And yeah, the point was moreso that I wouldn't pull my hair out trying to manually rig perfect level ups cause that would definitely not be fun. It is 100% theoretically possible to do it and that was mostly what I was trying to do here.

Wait for real? I honestly did not think so but I did do some math on particular problem spots like later bosses and found that Roy on average could actually damage them which I didn't expect. I definitely should've rephrased parts of the beginning because I actually didn't think it was impossible, just somewhat unreasonable/unfun/uninteresting. Also, completely right in analysis of him as a unit. Getting chip damage with rapier or even getting some kills on early game hells like chapter 7 is better than more than like half the cast of this game to be honest. Whatever use after that as a support unit and in the endgame with the Binding Blade more than makes up for his non existent midgame. The early game is the hardest part of this game so any more units there is good.

@pinkmellyy something that can also be noted, roy can guarantee 10 damage at range with the light brand if there is a boss he can't damage Trust me though, it's total pain (and I'm sure you know having done it with 100% growths) Especially 20 illia, that's such a nightmare If I didn't have 16x speed I'm convinced it would've taken months to do the run lol

Good point. Although I don't think Swords are like the end all be all for weapons in this game they're definitely a lot better than later. More so they're just lucky with the classes they're in because all of the classes have something going for them. Whether it's flight, crit, or axe access. Many late game enemies have lances though so they're kinda niche sometimes.

@ Meh, the weapon triangle barely matters in fe6 and with swords having the best accuracy of any weapon, most often than not, your character will just dodge the Lance.

@@voltron77 Oh yeah weapon triangle doesn't matter for hit. A weapon triangle disadvantage sword still has much more hit than a weapon triangle advantage axe. I won't pretend that I know much about FE6 hard mode since this is the only time I've played it but I assume it's still marginally important to actually kill the generic enemies you're fighting. Eventually enemies become weak but having 1-2 range and weapon triangle advantage over lances with somewhat decent hit rates means you're at least doing something. I think.

@ Sadly, no since axes are the worst weapon type by a fair margin and the only good axe unit, Gonzales, is carried by his insane bases and primo gains more so than by axes. Really, except for chucking javelins with your Christmas cavs, 1-2 range is pretty useless in fe6 and I like that, it makes swords more balanced in comparison to lances and axes, although like I said, axes are horrible in this game. I feel like fe6 is a hybrid between the next fe games and the old ones when it comes to weapon balancing since it truly is the last time that swords were better than axes.

Ah, a theoretical run where you got perfect RNG for level ups only? Neat. Looks very amusing. Somehow, someway, I was actually able to beat FE8 Hard Mode with Roy only. I also swapped Eirika's Rapier with his and Sieglinde with the Binding Blade (without the heal effect). He performed well enough that he didn't need the Supports of the other FE6 units I ported over for specifically for Supports. Hilariously, he performed better than Hector, because of better AVD and RES for Ch18.

Sounds about right. Based on what I've seen about Sacred Stones it doesn't seem that challenging but I'm guessing the run would go from pretty easy to mildly annoying based on when you allowed Roy to promote.

At least in the maps past her second time showing up but I distinctly remember looking at the reinforcements on the wiki and wondering why they weren't showing up. For some asinine reason the spawning event is directly tied to if Cath is alive and I have genuinely no clue why.

(Despite being on Japanese Nintendo Switch Online I guess they don't want to take 2 minutes to download a fanmade one either) 7 definitely does seem like a fan favorite so I'm interested to see a challenge run I can pull together for it as well.

Really solid video, Lunatic Conquest is so well designed and it's what makes maps feel so engaging. It also helps that Conquest has one of the most usable cast rosters in the series. I also wanted to say, as someone who has used Nyx long term without DLC, she is such a pain to use lol. She suffers from hit rate and bulk issues all the time, is at constant threat of being ohko'd and even with her growths, it feels as though her offensive stats starting off just aren't that great for landing kills. She's basically Odin but requires way too much work and effort to do what Odin does. Peri is funny because I feel she's more mid then bad. Her offensive growths are solid and I know 0% ltc actually used her for chapters 14 and 16 in great knight. Her issue is more that her bases are really mid and there's no reason to invest in her combat unless you just really wanna use Peri. Which means it's a bunch of investment into a unit who effectively does the same thing as every other unit combat wise, with nothing unique or interesting going on. So in that context, I see why she ranks low in terms of Conquest tiering and I say this as someone who likes using Peri.

Thanks! I've actually seen a series go on about using Nyx and I straight up never thought about using her in the way it does but it's very interesting. I believe it's by Codingant? In that playthrough Nyx is almost immediately reclassed to outlaw which despite being kinda mid somehow fixes like all of her early game problems which is cool. Plus Nyx can get literally every hit boosting skill besides quixotic from her native and friendship class with Mozu which is neat. If I ever have the chance it'd be cool to try rather than keeping her in mage only for her to just be worse Odin and Leo. I strangely love using Peri just because of how stupid it is and also numbers go up when she levels up. Same reason I like Charlotte because seeing +str and +spd go up every level is great. Her bases are absolutely abysmal though and it doesn't help she's so underleveled. If you don't immediately feed her kills in her join map she'll basically just be like Rev Peri, utterly unusable. But she's hilarious so I even use her in runs she has no business being in like an Axe Only Rev run. (it'll come out in like a month lol)

Finally a reliability truther, if I have to attack an enemy with >80% hit in an ironman I am probably going to cry (but then again its REALLY funny to lose units so i do it anyway)

I've never done an ironman but I already feel utter fear when I see a 1% crit or am depending on 70% hits because it literally never goes my way. Oddly enough I tend to depend on hits that's less than 60 and it somehow usually goes better.

Eh iron swords are better because you can proc skills and hit harder with no penalities, and you conveniently don't show forged iron swords, only regular ones lol

I did though... The math itself disagrees with you especially on this because the gold to might ratio of bronze and iron are exactly the same. Bronze sword +1 has same might as iron sword +0 and both cost 1000 gold. Every subsequent forge simply gives +2 might and effectively doubles the cost meaning iron will always be the exact same as bronze until +7 which I don't think spending like 128,000 gold in a game that doesn't even give you a quarter of that is a good investment. Maybe I didn't explain it enough in the video about skills but most offensive procs are bad in a game like this. You NEVER need proc skills to get enough damage except for the final boss and even then there's better ways to stack damage. I believe I specifically mentioned sol as the soul exception to this because it has no negatives but instantly killing the enemy if you didn't intend to does have many negatives, same with crits.

It's higher than +1 bronze sword lmao Since when overkill damage is bad lol ? Yes you don't need to proc luna or lethality or whatever and yes sol is the best one, but that doesn't suddenly mean that they're " bad ", if you're already killing an enemy a critical hit isn't doing anything negative, it's just overkill damage, which isn't bad lol " What if you didn't intend to kill the enemy" you can just use weapons that don't proc skills/crt then, also not wanting to kill enemies is super situational, the huge majority of the time you're killing enemies from full hp if you can, there's no reason not to unless you're trying to capture with Niles/Orochi or saving a kill for someone, the former is super situational and the latter is pretty much only common early game since your units are not that strong and you may feed kills to Someone like wyvern Elise for example, but even then you won't have any proc skills since you only get them lvl 5 promoted which takes A LOT of time to reach unless your name is Jakob/Felicia, which makes this whole point moot

For the first point, correct! I actually think all of them have their uses and nobody is really that bad in Conquest. I think Ignatius may be the worst but that's really only because he becomes almost impossible to recruit when the paralogue scales, but that's irrelevant. As for the other 2, I would love to hear your opinion on it because I kinda can't say anything if there's nothing for me to reply to on it. I am also not acting like Conquest Lunatic is perfect either, there are very many flaws to it (the three top tiers are ungodly broken, kitsune map, paralogues are almost never worth it besides the cross-route ones due to xp, swords and lances are god awful as weapon types, the weapon design in general is questionable, etc.) but I still do not think 3H Maddening is well designed or thought out.

@@pinkmellyy other than the fact that you can't save, the final map has too many overwhelming obstacles that the most reliable way to beat the map is to rescue-skip it, it's kinda like 14x of FE6 except that map is just boring instead of being unfairly hard Also lol many paralogues that aren't cross routes are worth it lol, Percy's one gives you money, Forrest gives you Gazak and 5000 G, Ophelia's one gives you Amazing tomes, Soleil's one gives you Zhara and nice items, Nina's one gives you 3000 G and nice items I agree the weapon design is questionable but there's nothing wrong with any weapon type in fates lol

Hit rates are more about the players ability to modify weapons than the skill stat in most games though For example Gatrie and Jill in radiant dawn have godawful skill but nobody cares because forged steel axes have 90-100 base hit. The hit+20 skill in Three houses is a total house of a skill, but nobody really talks about the skill stat that much. The major exceptions are GBA and SOV, which lack these tools to modify player hit significantly. There are supports in SOV but GBA supports are a meme GBA is the one series where stuff like the secret book really matters a lot. The main weapons of (english) GBA don't have the best hit (Javelin/handaxe) so player unit skill matters a lot. Other FE games either have forging hit directly (which is extremely cheap) or have skills which allow the player to modify their hit.

Oh yeah 100%, there's a reason I mentioned that skill and luck are still pretty niche in most games at the start. Especially since the maximum a point of skill/dex has translated to hit throughout the series is only 2, which is just pathetic when most characters won't have much or prioritize getting more anyways. Even in the games where you don't have much tools, it's often still better to just attempt to go for good match ups like with weapon triangle which can curb a lot of the problems some of the more innacurate weapons may have. And often times if you can't the games are typically easy enough to not just outright kill you if you miss so it's not that big a deal sometimes. I just think that being able to think outside the box to make your gameplay better is something that not many people think about and some people may be unintentionally handicapping themselves by passing on hit boosters.
