With my current setup, having less reach in my lens, photos with birds small in frame makes sense! Will try in my next birding trip

Thank you. Just attended a presentation you gave yesterday, 02/10/2025, for the Portland Camera Club, and was following up to learn more about the FlexShooter ball head on KZbin. Want to learn more but here I thought I would just say hello. Take care.

Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing. I love the RF 100-500, but birdS In flight seem to be just a bit beyond the R7, perhaps due to the relatively slow sensor scan speed. I am looking at the original R5 as a step up in this regard, as the prices are great with the arrival of the R5 II.

I fish an area on central Florida gulf coast . I was inshore in a creek the other day and seen something I’ve never seen. In a large mangrove tree in the distance I seen three Anhinga fly out of tree then the forth one . I thought and made a comment that that’s something you don’t see four of those in the same tree . As I came closer there was at least 40 came out of that tree . Have you ever seen that . ?

So sweet! I get these Red Headed Woodpeckers a lot in my yard. They're calling everywhere and sometimes even chasing each other! How silly these guys are! They should be one of the more popular species of woodpecker.

Always love your videos. I'd hoped you'd comment on the stabilizer modes (1,2,3) on the lens body. My understanding is 1 is for still, 2 is panning, and 3 is for erratic subjects. Keep the videos coming!
@Titus_3 ай бұрын
Or you couldve just googled it lol 1 is for "common" use - stabilizes both X and Y axis. 2 is for panning - stabilizes Y but not X axis. 3 is similar to one, but only stabilizes when half(?)-pressing the shutter. I guess to save battery

Very nice video. I always felt like the full frame shots have more of a (lack of a better way to describe it), scientific feel to them. where the wide frame composition tells the story if you will.

as usual ,great video do you sit mostly or do you do what Mike does for photos thanks ..
@ShawnCarey01 Жыл бұрын
Joe, it depends on the situation and the birds but I do a little of both. For some shorebirds like Black-bellied Plovers you really need to be flat on the ground. For Semipalmated Sandpipers, Dunlin and Semipalmated Plovers they will tolerate you just being on your knees or sitting.
@joecronin5017 Жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply,i am always on my knees for shorebirds to old to letdown ,but I get great results @@ShawnCarey01

Thanks for the review! My first concern is if there is any play in the mount, so if you have it level and tighten the horizontal, does it remain level? Second is the fluidity of movement with zero jitter. Then thirdly which is purely taste "drag" which would only be a niggle when it comes to astrophotography, small gentle movements while observing craters of the moon. So I am sold on this gimbal. Also here in New Zealand you can buy a variety of cheap $50-$100 gimbals, but i would rather pay for what it is worth than a cheap gimbal with no reviews, or reviewed where the locking mechanism starts failing.
@ShawnCarey01 Жыл бұрын
I have for the most part moved away from using a Gimbal head except with my Skimmer ground pod for shorebird photography. Now for the most part I use the FlexShooter head, less weight, much better drag and IMO just a better design.
