OK, you get free juice at the charger overnight, but that place does cost 143 to 1260 euro/per night, (and an extra 60 euro for dinner) so it's not exactly cheap!

gear shift back to go forwards, shift forwards to go backward? Yes I know that's from the original shift pattern, but still, that seems wrong.

We did a similar trip from Kassel/Germany to Östersund in Sweden (200km north of Lillhärdal). Once in summer with a converted VW Touran in 2021. The charging infrastructure was awful back then, the AC charger broken and we were only left with CHAdeMO - this meant one tow from a broken charger to a working one. The other time we hired a Kia Soul in winter 2022. The charging infrastructure had improved notably within just 1.5 years! In the cold winter it was so good to have an electric car that you can preheat or leave running to keep the dog warm. EVs are much better in winter than ICE ones. Back then I didn't know of Tom - hope I can visit on this years trip :)

Beautiful car! BUT a Porsche without a glorious flat six soundtrack is like Tom Jones delivering Delilah with BSL.
@ElectricClassicCarsКүн бұрын
But the Porsche 912 never had the ‘glorious’ 6 cylinder soundtrack. 🤷♂️
@habsom1406Күн бұрын
@@ElectricClassicCars Indeed, that's why I purposely stated, " A Porsche...." and didn't specify this 912. There's a visceral feeling of satisfaction of working the engine up through the revs (whether 3/4/5/6/8/10 or12 cylinders) and gathering speed. I believe BMW with their M5 decided to pipe engine sounds back through the car's stereo system after the engine they used was considered too smooth and uneventful. I'm sure the 912 is still a joy to drive even in electric form, but just in a different way. Perhaps you could pipe in a screaming 4 cylinder soundtrack and perhaps I'm just an old fogey, ha! 😎

These beautiful Ferrari's with Tesla drivetrains in them are magnificent. The fact that they are able to travel the distance and charge at public charging stations is a testament to Electric Classic Car's excellent conversion skills.

Doing an EV conversion on a vehicle with such a heavy maintenance reputation is a no brainer. If I managed to pick up a Testarossa back before prices went thru the roof, I would’ve done the conversion. 👍🏻
@Jaw0lf2 күн бұрын
This has brought a massive smile to my face as I loved the look of the iconic Testarossa. However maintenance costs would prevent most people owning one. The electric upgrade using Tesla parts is an incredible move and the best of old and new. Long live the TeslaRossa. As you say what is beeter than seeing one, two! Seeing them do what they are designed for and being driven is fantastic. Thanks for doing this Richard.

Did you really charge from 40% to 100% in half an hour at your first breakfast stop? Other EVs take forever to get that last 10% in.

Stunning car, Richard and Tim and no doubt even more stunning to drive along in refined silence, with just the sound of nature (thankfully, not rain storms...!) as companion. The R107 takes me back to my first motortrade job at a Mercedes dealer in Sheffield back in the mid-80s. The MD ran a Blue Black metallic / Cream leather 320SL and, very kindly, allowed me to borrow it one weekend to take my girlfriend - now wife of 34 years - on the date where I proposed... Don't know whether it was me or the car, but, thankfully, she said "Yes"...! 🥂

A bit of info for anyone recreating this trip: you can charge at Lidl in most French towns 150kW CCS 0.36 cent per kW 0.06 cent per minute. We did it last year and we saved a lot! of money

The charging infrastructure in France is superb. We've taken the Model 3 skiing and on a summer vacation twice. The last time, we avoided the Telsa chargers and just looked for nice motorway services with some green space. Much better for the kids to go and play vs a hotel parking lot. We sat on some benches and chilled out.

I wish it was more like the US here, cheers DVLA for depriving us of such an interesting element of vehicle culture. Look at all their restomods with improved suspension geometry etc. Like many of our laws, it's totally unenforceable. How many cars do you think have an extra hole somewhere for a sound install, camper conversion etc. If everyone wanted an inspection it would take 100 years and most cars over 10 years old would be on Q plates.

What an Awesome Ride, and a great demonstration of how great road tripping can be in an electric. Richard started the video by saying how lucky he is to drive these classic electric vehicles. I have to disagree. Since he is the one who converted them, I would say he made his own luck.
