Great video. I rarely hand piece. I machine piece and hand quilt. But I have two charm packs I can practice on. I have a long train ride coming up next month and this would be relaxing. Thanks for sharing.

Hello! I suspect it’s because that hook (the take up lever) is not in its highest position when you’re threading. Use this video as a checklist to work through and you’ll probably find the answer: 🤯 Sewing Machine Keeps Unthreading Itself - Six Quick Fixes kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4amqGybdpWVirs. It's been two years since this video was posted, but it is lifesaving. My mother has had this sewing machine since she was a teenager, and I decided I wanted to get into it, too. Except, she had no idea how to do help or do much for the machine since it's been so long since she's used it. This video was amazing, thorough, and amazing. Thank you so much!! ☺️🫶

Do you know what stitch width an 1/8 inch would be?
@QuiltWithKim
@QuiltWithKim 26 күн бұрын
Great question Deanna. I've found that's it more about where you position the fabric under your foot. So, put your stitch width setting to 5.5 to get it to 1/4". Then look at your foot; there should be a metal bit on each side. Look at the *right* hand metal bit/prong. Then line up the edge of the fabric to the inside edge of that metal prong, and that 'should' be 1/8" I use Brother machines and it seems to work on all the Brothers that find a place on my sewing table, but I haven't tried on other brands of machine. So give that a go on a practice piece and then measure the seam allowance. Hopefully it won't be too far off! Do let me know how it goes. Kim.

Hi Anne, when you're piecing, you will need to start and finish your stitching near to the edges of your fabric. Then you won't have any gaps when you join up blocks or rows. Does that help? x

What size square do you start with
@QuiltWithKim
@QuiltWithKim Ай бұрын
Any square size at all Mary, but I generally use something 2 or 3" once folded. It doesn't really matter, it's just to get your needle stitching on some fabric before you stitch on your 'actual' fabric. Hope that makes sense 😊

For a strechy fabric which number I should use
@QuiltWithKim
@QuiltWithKim Ай бұрын
Great question: you use exactly the same rule for stretchy fabric. The thicker your fabric is, the higher your needle size. However, as a bit of guidance, if you are stitching a basic jersey fabric to make a top or dress, then you're probably looking for a 75/11 or 80/12. What is also important is to make sure you are using 'Stretch' or 'Ballpoint' needles as these are designed for stretch or jersey fabric. Hope that helps.
