Yes. Incoming spin + bat angle = correct trajectory If incoming spin sends the ball upwards, the bat angle should send the ball downward and vice versa. Obviously this only applies to spinny rubber, because spin doesn't affect anti spin rubber at all (which can greatly confuse the opponent if they don't expect it)

Show what happens when it hits the net! If it bounces off the net continuously until it falls to the ground then try and catch it, if you can’t as it shoots off your hand, try and catch it again. If it takes two attempts , then that is a slow and super spinny loop!

there are some drills one can do alone practicing the backhand topspin and backhand loop against a topspin OR a a backspin. The technique is slightly different. As long as an experienced coach can give you some initial guidance on how to do this, you can practice alone and you do not even need a robot. As as far as the wrist is concerned, i've been training with a coach for 4 months, 3 times per week, and he still doesn't allow me to use the wrist although there is some pressure from my much higher-ranking players whom tell me to use it. I just go by what my coach tells me. No wrist for me for the moment.... In my humble opinion, for what its worth, when you've mastered the technique whereby your wrist doesn't wabble when you perform these backhands, only then you can start slowly introducing the wrist.... Good video, Tom, thank you, it made us all think....

Good lesson Tom, nice to watch. However, I know all this you talk about well in theory, but in practice it still doesn't work out as I would like. I have the impression that it is very difficult to unlearn muscle memory for certain bad habits. Even though I know about some technical mistakes I make, I feel it's hard to fix because when playing (especially match play), it's these subconsciously encoded habits that take over. PS. You seem to have improved your BH significantly, it's fast and snappy. Probably the training with PowerPong has helped.

Just a word of WARNING. This is my main method of topspin attack for various reasons, and as a result I've had pretty painful tennis elbow for over a year now. Granted I maybe overdo it a bit and go far faster than Tom does here, but again I can't use traditional topspin for certain reasons. Thought I'd warn folks not to overtax their joints like I did.

Hi guys even though alot of times i doubt myself, A memo regarding the usage of Table Tennis robots at any of the Table tennis centers. The Problem:We had set the robot up one night for training and completed the training set with the robot fully functional. Then another centre player said leave the robot out setup as it was so that the Wed night players could use the robot. This was a bad idea. So the following week when we went into to set-up the robot again for training the robot was broken. We had to deduce that someone had grabbed the robot nozzle while it was moving and then broke the oscillation function. Even worse they put the robot away broken, didnt tell any one what happened and carried on if nothing had happened. When we enquired about this they the centre players just stood there glumly saying "We dont know". Robots are a valuable training item, to avoid the above only allow designated trained people to operate them and not just any tom, dick or harry. Never leave the robot around inexperienced players to avoid the above and to conserve this item. Pack the robot away immediately after training.

in summary, you wanna increase the vertical angle of the racket's trajectory, you wanna brush the ball rather than hit it, and you wanna speed up the racket instead of going slow.

(novice ? here). what is the difference between using a long pip rubber as she's doing here vs a soft (inverted) rubber for chopping? i ask because i'm considering a BH rubber that i can chop with AND be offensive with (for drives, smashes and flips). another ?. how do you adjust your chop stroke here if the incoming spin is backspin?
@josepinchero14 күн бұрын
great video. a few more ?s on this topic. (1) she is using a DHS Tin Arc 3 rubber. What makes for a great chopping rubber? does it need to be tacky? soft and tacky? why doesnt she use short or long pips to chop? (2) what should you differently for different incoming spin if you decide to chop a ball? if the incoming ball has topspin, like she says in this video...but what about no spin or back spin? thanks!

I've found this method works well when using standard glue like revolution 3, finezip, etc. While I haven't tried thicker glues like DHS glue as I don't use chinese rubbers, I have a few recommendations for using thinner glues like butterfly 2 or pro 2 (which should be used for tenergy or dignics). First thing, you should only use one layer on the blade and then two layers on the rubber. First you should do a really thin layer on the rubber, just enough to get glue within all the pores, almost like how the first layer when spray painting should just be a light dusting to almost prime the surface. Then for the blade and the second layer of the rubber, you should put a normal layer on both the rubber and the blade. But the most important part I've found is to use a brand new sponge for every single time you apply a layer of glue. The thinner glues dry incredibly fast, so even if you're gluing the blade and the rubber at the same time, that 10 or 15 seconds is enough for the glue on the sponge to start balling up and ruin the layer you're about to apply. Use a fresh sponge everytime and really be quick about application with the thinner glues.

Do you have to serve with a first bounce on your side? I recall when I played years ago, I would serve with a bounce on my side and a hit over to the other side.
@jacknjill300015 күн бұрын
Just order a blade today and haven’t played since I was a teen. I was worried on where do I go to play with others bc I don’t know anyone that plays table tennis. That’s a great table setup with the auto ball shooter.
@jacknjill300015 күн бұрын
I always used to just stand at the end of the table in my side, but didn’t know you can go all the way to the side and near the net. That’s a game changer and I’m gonna try that and go to the side.

Hey i actually found a tip that made my backhand better. I never controlled the shot with my thumb. If you push your thumb into the racket it kinda does the same job as the other finger when playing forehand. I rarely find this in backhand videos so it might be a mistake you dont think of

Some decent tips here, you gotta consider that pure Defenders are pretty rare thou and that nowdays almoust ever Defender is "modern" and attacking on his FH or even switching his racket sides. So those will basically wait for your lazy pushes to attack them themself and it will be much harder to beat those than a pure oldschool Defender who basically lose to ppl who can play hard winners with a good percentage.
